BRAKE / WYNN

I have been researching my family history for about 10 years and am looking for help with one of my brick walls. I am trying to find the ancestors of my 3rd Great Grandparents and their relatives. They were Martha Priscilla BRAKE and Reverend William W. WYNN. This is what I do know about this couple and their descendants. Reverend William W. WYNN was born about 1817 in Tennessee. He married Martha Priscilla BRAKE who was born in August, 1821, in Trigg County,
Kentucky. She died 30 December 1905 . William died on 26 April 1897. The couple had at least 2 children:
1. Nannie Catherine "Katie" WYNN   2. William B. WYNN
According to the 1880 census, both of William's parents were born in Tennessee. Both the 1880 and 1900 censuses state that both of Martha's parents were also born in Tennessee. William W. WYNN, wife Priscilla and son William B. were enumerated on the 1880 Census in Elizabethtown, Hardin County, Kentucky. Martha was living with her daughter Katie and her husband C.C. BORAH in Cromwell, Ohio County, Kentucky in the 1900 Census. Cromwell was my mother's birthplace. Although I may not have the family specifically located in this county, I know from Kentucky birth and death indices that several members of either family have resided here. My Wynn family seems to have been on the move a lot. Thank you in advance for any help. Deborah Kaelin, pigfish9@swbell.net

SMITH

Margaret Jane SMITH supposedly was born in Adair Co. Oct. 1844.  I cannot find her anywhere on 1850 or 1860 censuses for Adair, Green, or the surrounding counties. She married in 1862 James YOUNG in Adair Co. and in 1865 she married Ben MARTIN in Adair co.  Assume James YOUNG died in Civil War. She is connected to the Dudley's, Abdalusa DUDLEY married Patience SMITH,
widow of John SMITH, and they lived next door to each other in Green Co. on 1870 census.  Either Patience SMITH (maiden name was also SMITH) or John SMITH was Margaret's sibling, probably. Believe a "Purn" SMITH is Margaret's father but I cannot find him anywhere on anything except a couple of marriage records as witness. Am desperate and going nuts! I am seeking my ancestor, George Miller who is believed to have lived near Lancaster prior to 1780. I do not know what resources may exist to help with a search, such as tax lists or land records. The area eventually became Lincoln and later, Garrard.  His wife was Elizabeth----. The family, including 11 sons eventually moved to what became Adair County. He was paying taxes there as of 1802. I know that he was involved with a land survey "south of Green River" reserved as a military district in 1786. I am trying to prove his service with Capt. Joseph Bowman in the Revolutionary War, who was then living near Harrodsburg.

I am looking for the father of Charles William Willis, born in 1849 in Kentucky.  He lived in Magoffin County. Kentucky and died in 1924.  I know that his mother's name was Jane, and that she was born around 1824 in either Virginia or Kentucky.  She had several other children besides Charles.  The youngest was born in 1856.  Jane Willis is listed as a widow in Magoffin County in 1860. Recently, in the 1850 census for Adair County, Kentucky, I found a Merry Willis, aged 60.  In his household there is a Jane (can't tell her age) and a Charles William Willis, age 1.  From the census, I can't tell if Jane is a wife or daughter.  I found a few on-line trees that have a Merry Willis, born in 1790, died in 1857, with a second wife named Jane Crouch. Any information you might have that could help be determine if Merry Willis of Adair County might be the father of my Charles William Willis would be appreciated. I am seeking information about the mother of Frederick Grider (1781-1853).  She probably died in North Carolina before the Grider family arrived in southern Kentucky during the early 19th century.  Frederick was born probably in North Carolina and died in Russell County, Kentucky.
Frederick's son, James Grider (1826-1909), was born in Adair County, Kentucky. James Grider's mother is Sarah Perryman Grider (ca. 1787-ca. 1884). Sarah's sister was Frederick's first wife.  I would like documentation for the name of Frederick's first wife.  Does anyone have a photograph of Sarah Perryman Grider or members of the Frederick Grider family?  Does
anyone have vintage Grider and Perryman family bibles?  Copies of photographs and bible records would be most appreciated. Documentation is difficult to obtain regarding early Grider ancestral family members who lived in Burke County, North Carolina during the 18th century.  Frederick's stepmother was Elizabeth, the second wife of his father, Frederick Grider.  The elder Frederick died ca. 1819 in Adair County. Any information about the early Grider family genealogy will be appreciated.  Many cousins and I have been researching the Grider family
genealogy for years. Any help is appreciated, E. H. Lepiarczyk, sir_erwin@yahoo.com

I am looking for more information on Gertrude "Gertie" Judd that married an unknown Crawford. She is the daughter of Milton William Judd and Sarah C. Floyd Judd of Columbia, Adair Co., KY. Gertrude is listed in the Bullitt Co., KY 1910 census as being a widowed and having 1 son Harry Crawford being 11 months old. She is listed as a servant in the household of William Hobbs.

In the 1920 Spencer Co., Camp Branch, KY census she is listed as a housekeeper along with her son, Harry Crawford who is now 10 yrs old in the household of Ernest C. Wood, MD and his wife Bertha Wood. I can't find Gertrude after the 1920 census but do find her son, Harry in the household again with Ernest C. Wood, MD and his family in the 1930 Bloomfield, Nelson Co., KY Census. He is listed as a roomer in their household.

I am looking for information on what happen to his mother, Gertrude Judd Crawford who is my great aunt. Is she buried in the cemetery that her son, Harry and his wife (Elzabeth Wheeler Crawford) are buried in also in Bloomfield, Nelson Co., KY. It is the Maple Grove Cemetery and Harry worked after he retired at the Houghlin Funeral Home until his death which was in 1987. His widow, Elizabeth lived to be 7 months short of turning 100 yrs old she died April 28, 2002.

According to Gertrude Judd Crawford's fathers (Milton William Judd) pension file from the civil war she was born October 8, 1881 and had 10 siblings. I know the siblings are correct but not positive about her birth date as some of the census shows it could be a few years either way. Her siblings were: (1)Martha "Mattie" married Robert Holt, (2)Mary "Mollie" married Charlie Hawkins (this is my great grandparents), (3)Milton "Frank" married Minnie Vaughn, (4)Dollie (NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON HER), (5)William "Will" (NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON HIM), (6)Ellis (NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON HER), (7)Laura Darnell "Nell" (NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON HER), (8)Fannie had a son Paul Judd was the major of Frankfort, KY, (9)Charles married Alice Ann Unknown (NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON HIM) and (10)Fred married 2 times had one son by his first wife (NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON HIM). Looking for information on WILLIAM CALDWELL, born 1759 in York Co., PA, came to Columbia and purchased property off the SW corner of Columbia Parkway 9-11-1812, having come from Abingdon, Washington Co., VA, and Russell County, VA where we believe he intended to return . Is there anyway we can get some help on solving this problem about which WILLIAM is who?  I have identified about 7 others who were also in Columbia at different times, that adds to the confusion. We believe our WILLIAM is mixed up with the other WILLIAM CALDWELL who served as the first Clerk of the Court for the County, m. to REBECCA EDMONDS, who went back to Obioin Co., TN, Union City after WILLIAM died.  Some say that WILLIAM was born 5-7-1793, and others say also in 1759 in Goochland Co., VA and collected a Rev. War Pensioin.  That one died 7-5-1825.  So it is understandable some have these two mixed up.  Some say the parents for WILLIAM CALDWELL, the Clerk, were THOMAS CALDWELL and SARAH BUCHANAH. Thank you for any assistance you may be able to give. My ancestors John and Nancy Triplett Sanders moved to Adair Co in the early 1800's. from North Carolina. John died in Adair Co. on 4 Nov 1839.  He had a will, but it was set aside by 2 of his sons.  His wife Nancy died about 1850. I cannot find an exact date.  She was probably living with one of here children in 1850, (if she was still alive), but I have not been able to find her.

John's mother Ann Sanders also moved with the family and was awarded a pension in 1822 for her husband Robert's service in the Rev. War.  She died sometime after 1822, but I have not been able to find information about her either.  There should be some records someplace in the county giving information about the deaths of these 2 women.  Do you know someone that might do some searching for me?

They lived in the Russell Creek area.  I would like someone to look for any records for both Ann and Nancy, such as probate, newspaper notice, or anything which might establish a death date for them. Thanks, Ilene Jones.

same.  I have full information on all their children.  Need to know where in Virginia the came from (Brunswick Co.? or Shenandoah area?) Thanks.  Jim Harmon (43kubel@comcast.net)
