William Harrison Grant & Martha Neat

William Harrison Grant, born October 7, 1834 and Martha E. (Neat) Grant. He served in the Union 13th Kentucky Infantry. They were married on March 16, 1856 in Adair County Kentucky and had 12 children including two sets of twins.

Our research shows that William H. Grant was the son of Samuel and Hulda Grant, who both died before 1848, according to Mt. Gilead Church Records of Green County, KY. He and his siblings were then raised by other families.

William H. Grant, in the 1850 Adair County census, was living with the William Tupman family.

William H. and Martha E. (Neat) Grant raised their family in Adair County, KY. Their children were Thomas B. Grant, Sarah M. Grant, Martha E. "Bettie" Grant, William F. Grant, Sophrona B. Grant, Julia F. Grant, Edward L. Grant, James & Mary Grant (twins), Benjamin A. Grant, and Elia and Ira Grant (twins). All of the children lived to adulthood except for Ira who died as an infant.

William H. Grant died on March 28, 1904 and Martha died on June 14, 1915. They are buried together in Tabernacle Cemetery, Adair County, KY. Martha E. Neat is the daughter of David Neat and Sarah (Jones) Neat. Martha's grandparents were Charles Jones Sr. (the revolutionary war soldier buried in White Cemetery) and Frances Dorcas Thorpe.
