(James Luther Akers came to Bell Co. -Middlesboro-in 1912 where he was employed by L&N Railroad and soon served in supervision. After living at Wasioto, he moved to the Forks of St. Creek about 1920, living there until his death in 1967. He began to pastor churches in 1934, and organized two churches in Bell County: one church on Hendren Hill and the other church which was held at the old Cary Schoolhouse. The church on Hendren Hill was built by James Luther, with help from his brother,
Joseph Arthur and their brother-in-law, Dewey Roy. The land was donated by James Luther. He was ordained a Bishop in his Church, The Church of God of Prophecy, in 1944. Rev. Akers retired from L&N after more than 52 years of service. He never retired from being a minister. He was a minister, railroad employee and farmer.) This is just a brief history of how the Akers family came to Bell Co. I would like to submit an obit later with my Grandfather's information. James Luther married - 3 July 1909, Claiborne County, TN
