DALLAS, ALMA GEORGE, 94, passed away Friday, August 16, 2002, at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was born March 20,1908, in Middlesboro, the fourth daughter of the late Robert 
Doyle and Emma Stewert George. She was the widow of Calvin Dallas of Lynch Ky. She was an alumni of Lincoln High School in Middlesboro, and attended Knoxville College for two years and received a 
certificate in Elementary Education. She was also an Alumni of Kentucky State University, Frankfort, Ky., where she receive an A.B degree. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, the Teachers 
Retirement System of Kentucky, a the Retired Teachers Association, and Pilgrim Rest, Chapter #95 of Benham, Lynch in Harlan County Ky. She is survived by one brother, Warren S. George, Cleveland, Ohio,; 
special nephew, Lovella Henderson, Detroit, Mich.; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Shumate Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Walter 
Garlington officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir. Burial will be in Greenhills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Shumate Funeral Home. Shumate 
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

DALTON, CLARA JEAN, 85, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at Claiborne County Hospital, Tazewell, Tenn. She was born Nov. 18, 1917, in Erie, Penn., a daughter of the late John and Mary 
Campbell Buell. She had been a resident of this area most of her life, and believed in the Baptist. She was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Simmons. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ed 
and Stephanie Miracle, Ewing, Va.; three grandchildren, Jim Miracle, Steve Miracle, and Holly Eisenmenger; three great-granddaughters, Martiese, Michelle, and Kenley; one brother, Wallace Turner, Kettering, 
Ohio; and a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shumate Funeral Home with the Rev. Preston Smith presiding. Burial will be Turner Cemetery. The family will receive 
friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Shumate Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

DALY, CLAIRE RITE, a resident of Pineville, Ky., died Saturday, October 6, 1990 at her daughter’s home in Vineland, New Jersey.  She was born June 3, 1927 in Manville, Rhode Island, the daughter of the 
late Denis RICHARD and Alice TOISSANT RICHARD. Mrs. Daly was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Pineville. She was the director of Interfaith of Bell County. She was a member of the Pineville 
Ministerial Association. She was a member of the Cooperative Christian Ministry of Kentucky. She was a member of the Network of Mission Speakers of Lexington. She was a Catholic Diocese of the Board of 
Social Services of the Lexington Catholic Diocese. Mrs. Daly was also on the Board of Directors of the Central Appalachian Peoples Federation Credit Union. She was Chairman of the Board of the Federal 
Emergency Agency of Bell County. She was also a member of FEMA Disaster Team. Survivors include her husband, Harry Joseph DALY, Pineville, Ky.; two sons, Lawrence DALY, Milwaukee, Wis., and 
Richard DALY, Misoulia, Montana; three daughters, Mrs. Rose Marie ROESSLER, Parksville, Ky., Mrs. Anne Marie HAIN, Ketchikan, Ala., and Mrs. Deirdre Marie BINNEY, Vineland, New Jersey; and 
ten grandchildren. Services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 1990 at the First Christian Church in Pineville, Ky., with Father Stephen GALLENSTEIN officiating. Burial was in Our Lady 
of Gethsemani in Trappist, Ky. Pallbearers were friends of the family. Durham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

DANCE, MAUDE F LEE, 93, formerly of Pineville, died Tuesday, March 1, 1988, in Biloxi, Miss. She had been a resident of Biloxi for the past eleven years and was a member of  the First Baptist Church. 
Mrs. Dance was a lifelong Baptist missionary, teacher and church worker in New Mexico, Arizona, Tennessee and Southeastern Kentucky. She served as Dean of Women at Southwest Baptist College, Bolivar, 
Mo., and was chairperson of the home economics department at Montezuma, Baptist College, Montezuma, N.M. She also taught home economics and other subjects at Magoffin Baptist Institute and 
Oneida Baptist Institute in southeast Kentucky. She was superintendent, at various times, of five Baptists WMU associations in Kentucky and Tennessee. In Kentucky, she was appointed to the Governor’s 
Advisory Board for Child Care and Public Assistance. She was instrumental in the development of the public literacy program in Bell County, and pioneered in the Baptist Home mission Board’s program of adult 
literacy. In 1965, she was named Pineville “Women of the Year” by the Pineville Rotary Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. James Claude Dance and one son, James Lee Dance. Survivors
include two sons, Dr. William E. Dance, Dallas, Texas, and Thomas R. Dance, Orlando, Florida; one daughter, Mrs. Henry D. (Thelma) Ward, Gulfport, Miss.; one brother, G. Edward Fullerton, Jackson, 
Tennessee; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services were at 3 p.m. Friday, March 4, at First Baptist Church, Pineville, with Rev. Charles F. Jones. Burial was in the Pineville Cemetery. Pallbearers 
were Wayne Bishop, E. J. Farris, Ernest Slusher, James O’Roan, Michael Roan, and Charles Dean. The honorary pallbearer was Dr. Ed Wilson. Arnett Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

DANIEL, ROGER LEE, 69, a life long resident of Bell County, Ky., died Tuesday, June 21, 1988 at his home in Clear Creek, Ky. He was born March 24, 1919 in Bell County, Ky., the son of the late John 
DANIEL and Jane MARTIN DANIEL. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II in the Battle of the Rhineland for which he received the American Theatre Ribbon, the European 
African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, a good conduct medal and the World War II medal. He had retired from home improvement work and he 
was a member of the Salem Baptist Church No. 2. He was preceded in death by one son, Cagle DANIEL, Sr., four brothers, Sam Lee DANIEL, Willie Lee DANIEL, Roosevelt DANIEL, Moody DANIEL.

DANIELS, GRANT - Harrogate, Tenn.  - Grant Daniels, 82, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2003, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville. He was born April 27, 1921, to the late George 
Daniels and Dona Daniels Herron. He was a member of Old Straight Creek Trinity Tabernacle Church, and the UMWA. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from G.M.C. 
Truck & coach in Pontiac. Mich.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Russell Herron; two brothers, Homer and Steve Daniels; and a sister, Linda Gibson. Survivors include his wife, 
Mary Daniels, Harrogate; children, Flonnie Brummett, Straight Creek, Robert Daniels, Shelby township, Mich., Grant Daniels Jr., Siler, Ky., Wanda Johnson, Jasper, Ala., Rev. Danny Daniels, London, Ky., and

DAUDELIN, NORMAN A,.of Smyrna, GA, died Saturday, Sept 19. A retired United States Army Major, he was in the European Campaign in Germany during World War II and served with the occupation 
forces in Germany in the 1950’s. He also served one year with the occupation forces in Korea in the early 1960’s. He was the brother-in-law of Bill and Charles Sharp and Mrs. Bill Slusher of Pineville. He 
is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Sharp DAUDELIN, Smyrna; one daughter, one son, five sisters, one brother, and six grandchildren. Services for Mr. Daudelin were at 11 am Tuesday, September 22 at 
Castellaw’s Concord Chapel in Smyrna with Chaplain Frances Bishop, United States Army. Burial followed in the Georgia Memorial Park.

DAUGHERTY, HILLARY - FRAKES, Ky.- Hillary Daugherty, 66, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 1989, at Britthaven Nursing Home.  He was born May 23, 1923, in Bell County, a son of William and Sudie { Lawson } Daugherty.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Partin and Grady Landsedel ; and one brother, John Tom Daugherty.  Survivors include five sisters, Cordelia Hatfield, Clairfield, Tenn., Martha Daugherty, 
Frakes, Lizzie Henderson, Mount Arb, Ohio, Margaret McCory and Leota McCory, both of Kokomo, Ind.   Services were at noon Tuesday at Creech Funeral Home with the Revs. Chesley Miracle and Roy Webb officiating. Daugherty and Jessie Partin; one special great-nephew Jeff Daugherty ; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and 
friends. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. today at New Vine Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnny Partin and Wayland Mason presiding. Music will be provided by New Vine singers. Burial will be in the John A.

Daugherty, Mrs. Susie E. -73 , died at her home in Frakes, Ky. at 4 a.m. Tuesday after an illness of four months.  Mrs. Daugherty had lived her entire life in Kentucky and was a member of the Baptist 
Church.  Surviving are eight children, Hilary and Martha Daugherty, who live at home, Mrs Fate Hatfield, Mrs John Partin and John Daugherty of Frakes, Ky., and Mrs Ray McClary, Mrs Howard McClary and 
Mrs Ray  Landseadel, all of Kokomo. There are several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be at the Jellico Funeral Home, Jellico, Tenn. at 11 am Thursday with 
burial in the Partin Cemetery.

the son of the late Kemper Martin DAVENPORT and Minnie Belle LANE DAVENPORT. He was a veteran of W. W. 2 of the United States Army. He was a coal miner, he was in the construction business, 
and believed in the Baptist faith. He was joined in holy matrimony at Black Mountain, Ky., August 14, 1948 to Rosemary HARDING, daughter of George and Pearl Harding. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosemary HARDING DAVENPORT, Hulen; 1 son, Mr. George Harold DAVENPORT, Lexington, Ky.; 2 brothers, Mr. Evert Carroll DAVENPORT, Mr. Walter Paul DAVENPORT, Philippines; 1 sister, 
Mrs. Mildred WEST, Kingsport, Tenn. Funeral services for Mr. DAVENPORT were conducted Saturday, September 7, 1985 at the Durham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roby WALTERS officiating.

DAVIDSON, MARY FRANCES
, 97, of Sevierville, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Sevier County Health Care Center. Reared in Middlesboro, she was the daughter of the late Charles P. 
and Bessie May Davidson. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Virginia Cooper and Henrietta Potter. After retiring from teaching in the Oak Ridge, Tenn., school system, she became a resident of Gatlinburg. 
Tenn., where she was known for her love of weaving, spinning, and dying yarn with natural dyes. She taught at Arrowmont, was the author of The Dye Pot and a member of Southern Highland Craft Guild. She 
devoted her life to teaching and helping others, giving of her time and knowledge was what delighted her most. She received her bachelor's degree at the University of West Virginia and her masters from Duke 
University. She was a devoted member of Gatlinburg Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her nieces, Nancy Cooper Tabor of Charlotte, N.C., Mary Lynn Copper Felsburg of Columbia, S.C.; her nephew, 
Morris Davidson Cooper of Springfield, Ill.; several great-nephews and nieces, and a very special friend, Lora Bradley of Pigeon Forge, Tenn. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the 
Gatlinburg Presbyterian Church with Pastor Don Grohman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service. Memorials are suggested to Gatlinburg Presbyterian Church, 237 Reagan

DAVIS, EDNA HOSKINS, age 93, died Tuesday, May 24, 1988 at the Pineville Community Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Bell County on December 11, 1884, the daughter of the late 
James C. and Laura PURSIFULL HOSKINS. She was a member of the Calvin Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. DAVIS, and two sons, Lester and Clarence DAVIS. 
Mrs. Davis is survived by seven children, Nellie JACKSON, Gwen OVERTON, and Clifford DAVIS, all of Calvin, Kentucky, Georgia MINK, Harlan Road, Milford DAVIS, Los Angeles, California, Vivian Wilson, 
Keego Harbor, Mich., and Leon DAVIS, Fairfield, Ohio; one sister, Susie HOSKINS, Morristown, Tenn.; fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. Services were 
Friday, May 27, at 2 p.m. at the Calvin Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Kenneth ROBBINS, Rev. Lindsey DAVIS, Rev. Charles MOORE, and Elder Phillip HOSKINS. Burial was in the Lum Greene Cemetery,

DAVIS, ETHEL, of Middlesboro, aged 86, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was born June 14, 1915 in Boyd County, Ky. the daughter of the late 
Steve Moore and Laure Mae Moore. Survivors include four children, Earl Davis of Wayne, Mich., Doug Davis of Westland, Mich., Bob Davis of Middlesboro, Ky., William Davis of Rolumus, Mich.; 15 grand
children and 15 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Creech Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Barnette presiding. Interment will be in the Hensley Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers

DAY, SHERWOOD, four month old son of Audry and Edna Mae Day of Calvin, KY, died at the Pineville Community Hospital on February 7, 1961. In addition to her parents, she is survived by grandparents, Nell 
and Ed Fredrick of Calloway.  Rev. Thea O. Carter officiated at the funeral services held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the home of Tilford Day at Balkan. Burial was in the Taylor Cemtery at Tan Yard Hill with the Durham

Dean, Alva Preston - b. 15 Jan 1884-d. 31 Oct 1967-passed away at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital, October 31,1967, at the age of 83.  He was the son of the late Dudley Ewing and Florence Oregon Brooks Dean.  Mr. Dean had lived in Middlesboro for several years and was a member of Engle's Chapel Methodist Church, Rose Hill, Va. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Cora E. Yeary Dean, Middlesboro; two sons, Lon Dean of Morristown, Tenn., and Oscar Dean, Middlesboro; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Millard Daniel Dean of Sneedville, Tenn.; four sisters, Mrs. Laura Chadwell, Middlesboro, Mrs. Mossie Buchanan, Mrs. Pearlie Akers and Mrs. Katie Akers, all of Pineville, Ky.  Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel.  The Rev. Mr. Millard Daniel Dean, 84, of Route 5, Tazewell, Tenn., passed away at 4 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, 1971, at a Middlesboro Hospital.  Surviving relatives include his widow, Mrs. Mollie Brooks Dean, Tazewell, Tenn., daughter, Mrs. Ethel Chadwell, Jonesville, Va., son, Herbert Dean, Tazewell, Tenn., sisters, Mrs. Katie Akers and Mrs. Pearlie Akers, both of Pineville, Ky., and Mrs. Laura Chadwell, Middlesboro; grandchildren, Mrs. Ora Rowlett, Jonesville, Va., Pascal Dean, Tazewell, Tenn., and Mrs. Wilma Montgomery, Tazewell; and 3 great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be conducted at  2 p.m. Thursday at the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel where the body will lie in state one hour before services.  Interment will follow in the Surber Cemetery, Route 5, Tazewell.  The family will receive friends this evening at Coffey Funeral Home Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Coffey Funeral Home, Tazewell, is in charge.

DEATON, JOHN SR., age 83, a resident of Pineville, Ky., died Saturday, June 18, 1988 at the Harlan Nursing Home, in Harlan, Ky.. He was born May 16, 1907 in Leslie County, Ky. He was the son of the late 
Isaac Deaton and Ann Ellis Deaton,. He was joined in Holy Matrimony October 21, 1922 at Cumberland Gap, Tenn. to Uphmia Cox, and they had been married for over 65 years. He was a retired coal miner, a 
very active worker in the community. He was a member of the Jensen Babtist Church, and also a deacon of the church. He was precided in death by his Mother, Father and Three Sister; Gertrude Garrison, Mary 
Ferrell, and Flora Williams. also Four Brothers; Sam Ellis, Oscar Deaton, McKinley Deaton, Edward Deaton. and one Infant Daughter, Mattie Deaton. He is survived by his wife, Uphmia Cox Deaton of Wallsend, 
Ky., and Two Sons; John Deaton Jr. of Varilla, Ky., Charles David Deaton of Harrogate, Tenn., and one Daughter; Mrs. Ada Lee Smith of Kettle Island, Ky., also 18 grand-children, and 22 great-grand children.  
Services for Mr. Deaton were at 2 p.m. Monday, June 20, 1988 with Rev. TheoCarter and Rev. Roy Hatton. Burial followed in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Middlesboro, Ky. Those who served as Pallbearers 
were his grandsons. The honorary pallbearers were; Dr. Emmunal Rader and Dr. Jeff Woolum, and Dr.Beinvenido Cabuay. Durham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. 


DEFEVERS, ALICE BARNETT, 84, died Wednesday, May 9 at the Pineville Community Hospital. She was born in Whitley County, Ky., October 17, 1905, a daughter of the late William and Mary BARNETT. 
She was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church and had been a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence DEFEVERS, and several brothers and sisters. 
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita PRICE, Kettle Island and Gertrude SMITH, Kettle Island; four sons, Ed DEFEVERS and Jack DEFEVERS, both of Kettle Island, Taylor DEFEVERS, Cincinnati, Ohio and 
James DEFEVERS, Wharton, West Virginia; eighteen grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. Services were May 11, 1990 at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Ray COLLETT. Burial was in the

Derossett, Jack Ed -age 40 a resident of Pineville, KY, passed away Saturday December 31, 2005 in Arjay, KY.  He was born July 5, 1965 in Pineville, KY the son of the late Harold Derossett and Anna Howard Derossett who survives. Besides his father he was also preceded in death by his brothers Van Howard and Joe Lee Derossett. He was of the Baptist Faith.  Left to mourn his passing are the following members of his family. Mother Anna Howard Derossett of  Pineville, KY, two sons Joseph Kelly Lee Derossett and Christian Scott Derossett, sisters Sarah Brewer of Pineville, KY, Rita Silcox of Watertown, TN, Ruby Nadine Howard of Amelia, OH, two brothers Harold (Pete) Derossett of Tinsley, KY, Rick Eastridge of Middlesboro, KY.  He will be missed by a host of nieces and nephews, Eric Adam Good, Tiffany Michelle Yates, Keith Brewer, Van Derossett, Danielle Silcox, Dianna Harper, Doug Elliott and a host of other friends and relatives and loved ones. Funeral services for Jack Ed Derossett were conducted Tuesday January 5, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at the Creech-Durham Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arthur Jackson officiating.  Music was by a tape by the late Joyce Cox. DELL, JIMMIE, 81, of Middlesboro, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was born May 28, 1920, in Bell County, a daughter of the late Chill and Lucy 
Bracket.  She was a member of Middlesboro Pentecostal Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Otis Dell; and one brother, Jack Poindexter. Survivors include two 
daughters, Wanda (Ron) Jones, and Lucille (James) Saylor, all of Middlesboro; two granddaughters, Candice Jones and Jeannie Miller, both of Middlesboro; four sisters, Molly Wright, Harrogate, Tenn., Madeline 
Daniels, Ewing, Va., Virginia Osborne, Lexington, Ky., and Wilma Jean Redd, Pennsylvania; special friends, Tootsie Howerton and Dorothy Peters; and a special brother-in-law, Salvene Dell; and a host of other

DENNY, CLARA R, 79 of Ypsilanti Twp., Michigan  passed away suddenly Friday, Nov. 22, 2002. She was born Sept. 3, 1923, in Middlesboro, a daughter of Dorsey and Mary Ellen (Stewart) Price. On Feb. 1, 
1946 she married James A. Denny and he preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 2000. Survivors include five children, James (Sandra) Denny, Marvin (Patricia) Denny, Sharon (Stephen) Hayes, Doug Denny and Debbie 
(Robert) Foy; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; one brother Clarence (Marjorie) Price; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral service will be Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Janiowiak Funeral 
Home, Greer-Logan Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Geiselman of First Presbyterian Church of Ypsilanti officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American

Watkins Wilder. She was a greeter at the Waterfor, MI  Meijers Store, had retired from K-Mart and was a volunteer and bowler with the Blind Recreational Society. She was a member of Bethel Tabernacle of 
Pontiac. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rube Roland Denny, sisters, Phoebe Wykoff, Juanita Cockran, Thelma Jackie Sasser and Rose Raleigh and brother, John Thomas W
ilder.Survivors include her children Nelles and Michael Denny and Julie and Randy Grant, sisters, Loretta Lay, Wilma Fallang and Elizabeth Greene; brothers, A.J. Wilder and James J. Wilder; seven grandchilden and

in the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by one son, Jake DENNY Jr., and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Jake DENNY, Middlesboro, Ky.; five children, Lenora DENNY 
and Pearl DENNY, both of Bellvue, Ky., Mrs. Hazel WARREN, Pineville, Joe DENNY, Hamilton, Ohio, and Patsy DENNY, Middlesboro, Ky.; several grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Services

DYE, CURTIS -age 76, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at Hospice of Dayton.  Born June 16, 1927 in Cary, KY to the late Thomas and Viola (Henson) Dye.  He was preceded in death by sisters Jacqueline Mink and Artie Carter and by granddaughter Hannah Marie Dye.  Curtis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maxine; son David Dye (Linda) of Columbus, IN; daughter Kim Dye of Dayton; grandchildren Daniel, Sarah, Leah, Rachel and John Dye; brothers Bruce Dye of Centerville and Phillip Carter of KY; sisters Naomi  Crawford of TN, Joyce Compton of KY., and Phyllis Green of KY; and his church family at Franklin Baptist Church, Franklin, OH.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from Delco Moraine.  Funeral services 11 a.m., Friday May 21, 2004 at the Franklin Baptist Church, 160 Deardoff Rd., Franklin.  Pastor Joey Bacon officiating.  Interment Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
