GAMBREL, BESSIE -- 68 Simms Fork, Bessie Gambrel passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2001 at Knox County General Hospital in Barbourville, Ky.  She was born in Napier, Ky., on October 26, 1932, a 
daughter of the late Ray and Rebecca Wells Lewis.  A homemaker, she was a very good cook and no one left her home without eating.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert
Gambrel; a son, Carson Gambrel; sister, Zelphia Lewis; and brothers, Melvin, Elvin and Carson Lewis.  Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law.  Glenn A and Lori Gambrel and Wayne E and Haroldeane

GAMBRELL, ETHEL, Ewing, Va. - Ethel Gambrell, 77, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at her home. She was born June 1, 1926, at Fourmile, a daughter of the late Rober Charles and Bertha Woolum 
Charles. She was a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Charles; and a sister, Elsie Gray. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, 
Clarence Gambrell, Ewing; two brothers, Finley Charles, Ewing, and Glenn Charles, McArthur, W. Va.; one sister, Dorothy Gambrell, Taylor, Mich.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.  Funeral services will 
be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Creech Funeral Home with the Rev. W.B. Bingham and the Rev. Danny Robbins presiding. Music will be provided by Walnut Hill Baptist Church choir. Burial will be in Green Hills Memorial Gardens. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family received friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Creech Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

GAMBREL, EUGENE November 14, 1935 - March 09, 2008 Eugene Gambrel, 72, of Kettle Island, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the Pineville Community Hospital. He was born in Knox County on November 14, 1935 the youngest of sixteen children of the late Boyd and Mollie Gambrel. He had been a coal miner.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Hensley Gambrel, a host of

GAMBRELL, PATRICIA GAIL DEAN  November 02, 1938 - August 06, 2008  Age 69, of Pineville, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Pineville Community Hospital following a valiant battle with cancer. She was born on November 2, 1938 the daughter of the late William S. “Bill” and Hattie Mae Belcher Dean. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pineville and had operated 
Gail’s Dress Shop. Garren, Catherine Dale -51, of Middlesboro-passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at her home.She was born Oct. 2, 1953, in Bell County, a daughter of Edward Soares and Mary. She was a member of Binghamtown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Isaac and Rosa Beason. Survivors include her son, Joshua Kersky; mother, Mary Gullatte, Maynardville, Tenn.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Creech Funeral Home with Elder Rogers Rhodes and Elder Steve Greene presiding. Music will be provided by church singers. GARRISON, LIDA LEE GOINS -Services were conducted in loving memory of Lida Lee Goins Garrison, a resident of Barbourville, Kentucky, formally of Pineville, who passed away Saturday April 16th, 2005 at the Pineville Community Hospital. She was born August 18, 1932 in Bell County Kentucky, the daughter of the late John Milton Goins and Myrtle Hubbard Goins.  She was retired from the Bell County School System.  Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Lewis Garrison, 4 brothers, Dean Clayton, Fred Arnold, John Milton Jr., and Clinton Crit Goins.At the time of her death she was 72 years old.  She is survived by the following members of her family; 2 daughters and sons in law; Sheila Kay Garrison & Charles W. Partin of  Barbourville, Kentucky, Debra Garrison & Eddie Hauser of London, Kentucky; 1 brother, James Larry Goins of Williamsburg, Kentucky, 1 sister Elizabeth Ann Harrington of Covington, Kentucky, 4 grandchildren; Jennifer Lea Travers, Jessica Elizabeth Partin Layman, Kayleigh Jayne Hauser and Jacob Garrison Hauser, 4 great grandchildren and an host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon Monday, April 18, 2005 at the Creech Durham funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Grubbs speaking.  Interment followed in the Pineville Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation was Sunday from 5-9 at the Creech-Durham Funeral Home of Pineville, which was in charge of arrangements.

GAUNT, SIDNEY CHAPPELL -- 88, Lexington, widow of Harry B. Gaunt, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at University of Kentucky Medical Center.  Born in Pineville, KY, she was a daughter of the late J.S. 
and Elizabeth Chappell.  She was a homemaker, member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church Circle.  She graduated from Carson Newman College, was past president of the Lexington 
Women’s Club, member of the Oaks Homemakers Club, past chairperson of the Mountain Laurel Festival, and a resident of Hartland Hills Retirement Community.  Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Tayloe, 
Lexington; a son, Bart (Ruthmary) Gaunt, Louisville; and three grandsons, Benjamin (Erica) Gaunt, Samuel (Katie) Gaunt and William Gaunt, all of Louisville.  Funeral services were 2:30 p.m. Friday at Kerr 
Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Road by Rev. Leigh Bowman. A graveside service was held 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Pineville Cemetery.  A memorial service was held 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hartland Hills.

GIBSON, ERNEST - 75, of Pineville, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2005 at the Pineville Community Hospital. He was born in Davisburg on January 26, 1930 the son of the late Gillis and Miva Sharp Gibson. He was a retired Pine Mountain State Park Maintenance Employee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lee Gibson. Godsey, Earlen “Happy Jack” -76, formerly of Bell County, passed away on November 23, 2005 at St. Vincent Jennings County Hospital.  He was born in Pineville, Kentucky the son of the late Floyd and Cora Hubbard Godsey and was a veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Betty Mosley Godsey , his sons; Earlen D. (Diane) Godsey of Seymour, IN and Roger L. Godsey of Columbus, IN, his sisters; Helen Watkins of Columbus, IN and Stella Commer of Jackson, KY, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home in Columbus, IN.  Visitation was on Friday, November 25, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home and also on Sunday, November 26, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.  Burial was at the Garland Brook Cemetery with Rev. Marvin Brown officiating.

Goins, Clinton Crit -59, of Pineville, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2005 at this home.  He was born in Kettle Island on August 5, 1945 the son of the late John M. and Myrtle Hardy Goins.  He had been a mechanic and had served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Christopher Goins and brothers, Fred and John Goins. GOODIN, BILL J.-Pineville, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, after a long illness.He was born in Tinsley on March 26, 1932, the son of the late Willie and Emily (Green) Goodin. Greene, Alta Marie Ferguson-age 89, died early Monday morning on May 9, at Lenoir City, TN. Born April 3, 1916, in Colmar, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Jesse Ferguson of Middlesboro, Kentucky, and Lillie Campbell Ferguson Patterson, also of Middlesboro and later of Strawberry Plains and Knoxville, Tennessee. Alta's father died in a mining accident on her first birthday. Alta is survived by her loving husband Sterling Augustus "Gus" Greene, now residing at Baptist Nursing Home in Lenoir City. They were married by the Reverend Joe Lambert in Claiborne County, Tennessee, on January 16,1935, and lived for many years in Lafayette, Indiana, where their three sons were born. Alta was also preceded in death by her mother Lillie; one son, Joe Stephen Greene; two brothers, Hubert Ferguson and Paul Ferguson; and three sisters, Ada Rose Ford, Tencie Welch, and Lois Suffridge. She has two surviving sisters, Hazel Patterson Blondell George, of Knoxville, and Billie Jean Patterson Godfrey, of Powell, Tennessee. She is also survived by her devoted children Mitzi Greene Humphrey, of Midlothian, Virginia, Paul Richard Greene, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Robert Sterling Greene, of Farragut, Tennessee; by two daughters-in-law, Patricia Manley Greene, wife of Paul, and Suzanne Smith Greene, wife of Bob, and by one son-in-law, Thomas MacGillivray Humphrey, of Midlothian, Virginia. Alta had seven grandchildren, Sheryl Lynn Humphrey, wife of Edward Coppola, of Staten Island, New York, Thomas MacGillivray Humphrey, Jr., of Midlothian, Virginia, and Elizabeth Eleanor Humphrey Scarpino, of Richmond, Virginia, wife of Mark Scarpino, and Ricky Greene and Bryan Greene, of Knoxville, and Yancey Greene and Jordan Greene, of Farragut, Tennessee. She had one little great-granddaughter, Isabel Rowan Scarpino, of Richmond, Virginia. She is further survived by many friends and family, including nephews Benny Welch, of Detroit, Michigan, Johnny Rose Ford of Ohio, Gary Blondell of Knoxville, Larry Ferguson, formerly of Knoxville, and nieces Diana Godfrey and Judy Godfrey of Knoxville, and Patricia Suffridge of Middlesboro, Kentucky, and their families. Family and friends will meet at Highland Memorial Cemetery Thursday for a 10:00 A.M. graveside service with Rev. Sam Brooks of Southside Baptist Church officiating and vocal music will be provided by Lorinda Wender, daughter of Reverend and Mrs. Clarence Gresham, formerly of Alta's home church in Lenoir City. GREENE, THELMA S, 79, of Wapakoneta, Ohio passed away at 8:05 a.m. on September 22, 2005 at her home.  She was born on November 19, 1925 in Middlesboro, Kentucky the daughter of the late William 
Alvis and Marguerite E. Fallon Wagner.  She was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother and friend who spent her life helping those she loved and sharing her generosity, and worked as a retail clerk for Hermie’s 
Party Shop and various retail stores around Lima.  She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and of the Order of the Eastern Star in Middlesboro, Kentucky.  Besides her parents, one brother preceded her 
in death: William H. Wagner and two sisters; Mildred L. Bennett and Mary R. West.  Left to mourn her passing are the following members of her family: one son, Howard E. “Butch” Greene, Jr. of Sylvania, Ohio, 
two daughters; Sharon K. (Roy D.) McGinnis of Harrod, Ohio and Marguerite L. Kauffman of Hamden, Ohio; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  Services were at 11:00 a.m. on Monday 
September 26, 2005 at Chiles and Sons Laman Shawnee Chapel with Rev. Terry Brock officiating.  Burial followed in the Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family received friends from 3 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, 
September 24th and from 3 pm to 5 pm on Sunday September 25th.  Memorial contribution may go to the Lima area Alzheimer’s Support Agencies or to the Donor’s choice.  Chiles and Sons Laman Shawnee Chapel 
was in charge of arrangements.

Griffith,  Donna Rae -PINEVILLE -70, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Oak Tree Hospital (Baptist Regional Medical Center) in Corbin, Ky. Born on April 25, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Lillian Gauthier of Detroit, Mich. She was a believer in the Catholic faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Griffith, a daughter, Shirley Florentino, a sister, Dorothy Wheeler, a brother, John Gauthier, four sisters-in-law, Phyllis Gauthier, Marie Gauthier, Evelynn Jackson and Juanita Wilson; three brothers-in-law, Hurlous Griffith, Walt Jackson and Roy Wheeler; mother and father-in-law, James and Mary Jane Griffith. Survivors include her husband of 52 years whom she married on Aug. 1, 1953 in Detroit, Mich., Willard (Doug) Griffith of Calloway; two sons, Steve Griffith and Michael Griffith of Calloway; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon (Tom) Davenport of Hutch, Mary (Gary) Wilson of Calloway and Susan (Shawn) Saenz of Calloway; 14 grandchildren, Kenny (Eve) Florentino of Corinth, Texas, Linda (Kevin) Olear of Hutch, Pam Davenport of Pineville, Amanda Davenport and Gary Rice of Tazewell, Tenn., Jimmy Saenz of Saint Clair Shores, Mich., Crissy Saenz of Calloway, Kristen Griffith of Birmingham, Ala., Tracey Griffith of Calloway and David, Cody and Brandon Wilson of Calloway; six great-grandchildren, Ashley and Alyssa Olear, Miranda Florentino, Marcus Overton, Logan Sharpe and Thomassa Rice; two brothers, Bill Gauthier of Oak Park, Mich. and Jim Gauthier of Wayne, Mich.; in-laws, Anita Gauthier of Sterling Heights, Mich., Millard and Edith Griffith of Calloway, Curt and Nadine Lester of Charleston, Ill., Onvie Wilson of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mildred Griffith of Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be at held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Arnett and Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Wilson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Barbourville Dialysis Center, Staff of Oak Tree Hospital of Corbin, Dr. Hasni, Dr. Lohe and Dr. C.C. Moore. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 until 9 p.m., and on Saturday from 12 noon until the funeral hour at the Arnett and Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.

Grubbs, Mr. Claybourne -age 90, of Barbourville, Kentucky the son of the late Grant and Emily Collett Grubbs was born in Bell County, Kentucky November 4, 1914 and departed this life in the Pineville Community Hospital on Sunday January 9, 2005. Claybournes life spanned many experiences.  Like many young men, he was caught up in the activities of World War II, crossing the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth troop ship and taking part in ground battles in France, returning to the States with a Purple Heart.  He spent many years in the coal mines, operations for Sun Crest Bottling Co., a stint with a sporting goods company, a contract mail Carrier, and a furniture finisher before retiring. Claybourne had a profound love for the outdoors.  Nearly every day was spent hiking the beautiful mountains of this area, or the paths in the parks.  His longevity can be attributed in part to the rigors of his outdoor pursuits.  He could challenge nearly anyone half his age to keep pace with him.  He was an avid small game hunter, and could coax nearly any plant to grow. Mr. Grubbs was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters and by three children, sons, Stephen Anthony Grubbs and Michael Curtis Grubbs and daughter, Debbie Lynn Taylor. He is survived by his former wife, Wilma Grubbs Wolfenbarger, sons Clayton Randall Grubbs and Kenneth Charles Grubbs and wife Kimberly Suzanne Grubbs of Barbourville, Kentucky, daughters Billie Jean Johnson and Susan Daniels also of Barbourville, Kentucky, Lauren Elizabeth (Phyllis) Hensley and husband Jess Hensley, Jr. of Olathe (O-Lay-tha) Kansas, and Judith Kay Perkins and husband Howard Perkins of Lexington, Kentucky.  He leaves 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services will be conducted in the Chapel of the Hampton Funeral Home on Wednesday January 12, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mervial Newman officiating.  Interment will be in the Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick, Kentucky.  Pallbearers will be family and friends.  Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. GRUBBS, THURMAN  85, of Corbin, KY, formerly of Pineville and Harlan, KY went to be with his lord Jesus on Saturday, August 7, 2004.  He was born in Pineville on December 23, 1918 the son of the late
Lawrence and Emma Lewis Grubbs.  He had been a coal miner for 50 years retiring from Grays Knob Coal Company in Harlan County after 39 years and was a member of the U.M.W.A.  He enjoyed bee keeping,
gardening and flowers and was a joy to all who knew him.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Opal Lee Walters Grubbs whom he married April 16, 1937, and children, Mary
Francis, Jenny, Brenda, Carl, Ronald and Donald and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his children, Raymond and Pauletta Grubbs of Frankfort, IN, Clifford Wayne Grubbs of Harlan, Doris Hensel of
Port Saint Lucie, FL, and Wanda and Ralph Johnson of Pineville; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, leaving cherished memories with 3 granddaughters Kathy and Bill Grubbs and
Billie Jo Grubbs of Flat Rock, NC and Linda and Marlon Thomas of Corbin, KY.  The family would like to give a special thank you to Four Seasons Hospice and especially Leslie Stephenson.  Services were
Wednesday, August 11 at 2:00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Grubbs.  Music by Lucy Smith.  Burial followed in Pineville Memorial Cemetery.  Pallbearers were family and friends.The
family received friends from 6 until 9 PM Tuesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, Pineville.
