of Jellico passed away May 2 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice at Knoxville. She
was born Aug. 15, 1950 at Fonde, KY, the daughter of the late Caryles McCullough
and Jean Jones McCullough. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence
Walls. She is survived by her sons, Jackie McCullough of Lexington, KY, Jimmie
McCullough of Frakes, KY; brothers, James McCullough of Frakes, KY, Tony
McCullough of Jellico, Larry McCullough of Middlesboro, KY, Danny McCullough of
Frakes, KY, David McCullough of Harrodsburg, KY, Anthony McCullough of
Middlesboro, KY; several other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services
were held May 5 at the Cox and Son Chapel with the Rev. Steven Perkins
officiating. Interment was in the Cumberland Memorial Garden, Corbin, KY. Cox
and Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ward, Luther -age 88 of
Middlesboro, KY passed away Jan. 28 at the Middlesboro Appalachian Hospital in
KY. He was a member of Trinity Full Gospel. He was proud to be an American and
to serve his country in World War II. He
loved fishing and hunting and had a very loving heart. He was preceded in death
by his wife, Dorothy Wilson Ward; parents, Hile and Savannah McGhee Ward;
brothers, Arthur, Henry, Lawrence,
Condy and Junior Ward; sisters, Ruby Grubb,
Florence Nolan and Beatrice Warren; special friend, Cloria Moore. He is survived
by his daughter, Viva Jean Hall of Covington, KY; step daughter, Diana Williams
of Middlesboro, KY; grandchildren, Jennifer and Phillip Barnett. Neal, Dustin
and Tommy Williams; four great grandchildren. Graveside services will be Feb. 1
at 2 p.m. at the Campbell Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jeff Kersey
officiating. The Campbell County Honor Guard will be in charge of the graveside
services.

of Pineville, passed away on Monday, June 06, 2005 at the Pineville Community
Hospital. She was born in Bell County on June 12, 1951 the daughter of the late
Gillis and Mandy Alford Warren. She retired after 30 years as a Registered Nurse
at the Pineville Community Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by a brother, Frank Warren. Survivors include her brother and
sisters, Geraldine Warren and Susie Napier, both of Pineville, Bobbie and Randy
Manes and Roy Warren, all of Corbin, nieces and nephews, Sue Ann Miracle, David
Nichols, Penny Jean Warren, Curtis Warren and Billie Dottie Warren; grand-nieces
and nephews, Jennifer Nichols, Mandy Warren, Deborah Warren, McKinsey Warren and
Brandon Tate; special friends, Shannon Jefferson and Martha Ferguson. Services
were held 2 PM Wednesday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Michael
Ferguson and Dr. Steve Morgan. Music will be by Mickey Wilder. Burial followed
in the Pinelawn Memorial Gardens, Pineville. Pallbearers were family and
friends. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Steve Morgan and Dr. Talmadge Hays. The

WARREN, ERNEST, 90, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at Pineville
Community Hospital. Born March 8, 1918, in Knox County, Ky., he was the
son of the late Frank Warren Jr. and Maudie Brown Warren. He was a coal miner
and electrician at Pine Mountain State Park for many years, and he also worked
at the Indianapolis Race Way.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his first wife, Lizzie Miller Warren; sisters, MealieAnn Warren, Sudie
Warren, and Dealie Warren; brother, Vigil Warren; and sister-in-law, Edna Mae
Warren.He is survived by the following members of his family: wife of 38 years,
Pauline Miracle Warren of Pineville; sons, Ralph Canterbury of Dortons Branch,
and William Arthur Hulsey of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter, Joann Mills of Flatlick;

Washington, Richard L. "Puff" -Pineville - 31, passed away on
Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at this home following a sudden illness. He was born in
Grand Forks, N.D., on Aug. 16, 1973, the son of Mary Mildred Mays Washington and
Ricky Lee Washington Sr. He had been a cook at the Pineville Kentucky Fried
Chicken. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, and had served in the
U.S. Marines. Survivors include his
parents, Mary Washington and Ricky
Washington; children, Richard Scott Washington, Andrew Steven Washington, Stacey
Nicole Washington, Shiann Lashea Washington and Holly Nicole Washington;
brothers and sisters, Darrel Washington, Ricky Washington Jr., Donovan
Washington, Tyrone Henson, Tracy Washington and Tanessa Washington; and a host
of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be at

Watson, Everett -83, of
Corbin, formerly of Pineville, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2005 at the
Pineville Community Hospital. He was born in Pineville on October 29, 1921 the
son of the late William and Corda Nicely Watson. He believed in the Baptist
Faith. He was a 22 year veteran of the U.S. Army who served in World War II and
the Korean War. Watson had been the Assistant Fire Chief for the Pineville
Fire
Department for over 16 years and the current fire house was named in honor of
him. He was a member of the Southeast Kentucky Fire Fighters Hall of Fame and
was a Kentucky Colonel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
a sister and her husband, Martha and Junior Brown and a niece-in-law, Kay Brown.
Survivors include his sisters and their husbands, Dorothy and John Partin of
Corbin and Marie and J.T.
Hensley of Pineville, Billy Robbins, Jr., whom he
loved as a son, nieces and nephews and their spouses, Kaye and Harrison
Middleton of Corbin, Billy Grant Brown of Pineville, Jason and Susan Brown of
Pineville and Leigh Ann and Eddie Wilson of London, great-nieces and nephews,
Corbin Grant Brown, Ashley Brown, Lauren Wilson, Kyle Wilson, James Michael

the Pineville Community Hospital. She was born June 17, 1919 in Bell County, KY
daughter of the late William Wesley Partin and Amanda Wilder Partin. She was a
member of the Salem Baptist Church. Other than her parents she was preceded in
death by husband Virble Webb, son Kenneth Fuller, Jr., daughter Willie Jean

Welch, Mr. Jay -age 77, a much loved resident of Pineville, Ky.,
passed away Tuesday, December 2, 1980, at the Pineville Community Hospital. He
was born October 6, 1903 in Pittsburg, Ky., the son of the late Edward Welch and
Jenny Davis Welch. He was joined in holy matrimony November 11, 1927 at
Cumberland Gap, Tennessee to Miss Bertha Barnes, daughter of the late Thomas
Frank Barnes and Matilda
Francis Barnes. He was formerly a local coal officer, a
building inspector for the city of Pineville and former chief of police of the
city. He believed in the Holiness Faith. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha
Ann Barnes, Pineville; six children, Robert G. Welch of Pensacola, Fla., Donald
Welch of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Mrs. Jo Ann Bowman of Pineville, Mrs. Dorothy M.

died at 4:30 a.m. yesterday (March 11, 1990) at Michigan City Health Care
Center. The funeral will be at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m.
Wednesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial park Cemetery, Hobart,
Ind. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and from 8
to 10 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Whitehead was born Dec. 21, 1931 in Pineville,
Ky., the daughter of Lee and Sally Brummett Roach Bailey. she was married in
Pineville to Charles Woolum, who died Jan 1, 1980. On Feb. 15, 1986 in Michigan
City, she married Kenneth Whitehead, who survives. Also surviving are two
daughters, Pam Woolum and Lynn Lewis, both of Michigan City; six sons, Wayne,
Doug, Mark, Luke and Brian Woolum, all of Michigan City, and Terry Woolum,
Sulfur, La.; one stepson, Charles A.

Widner, Robert “Tiny”,Jr., 74, of Central City, died Sunday, March 13,
2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. The Bell County, Kentucky native was a retired coal minor for Peabody Coal
Company and was of the Pentecostal faith. He was preceded in death by two
daughters, Judy and Sudie Marie; five brothers, Liege, Dewey, Alford, Frank and

WOODS, BETTY RAE -Mrs. Betty Rae Woods, 78, entered
into rest at Eisenhower Army Medical Center March 2, 2005. Mrs. Woods was born
in Middlesboro, KY and lived in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Colorado,
California, Hawaii, Italy, Austria and Georgia. She attended high school in
Pineville, KY., and in her early years worked as a beautician and then a
homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Virgil Woods

Woods of Savannah, G A. A memorial service celebrating Betty’s life was held in

Woods, Clyde -82, of
Arjay, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2005 at his home. He was born in Field, KY
on May 13, 1923 the son of the late Garrett Woods and Martha Brummett. He was a
believer in the Holiness faith and had been a coal miner for 27 years before
becoming disabled. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
first wife, Rosa Saylor Woods and brother Arthur Baker. Survivors include
his
wife, Nancy Addie Graves Woods, son and daughter-in-law, Clyde, Jr. and Virginia
Woods, several step-children, two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren;
sister and brothers, Ronald and Audrey Brock of Arjay, Clarence and Virgie Brock
of Pineville, Dave Brock of Fort Wayne, IN and Nancy and Zenith Collett of
Williamsburg and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pineville, age 82, died Sunday, June 18 at his residence. He was native of
Straight Creek and son of Kit and China Gambrel Woolum. Surviving are four

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a retired administrator of the Bell County Health Department. He was also a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, and served on the Vestry Board of the church. Mr. Woolum was a active member of the Middlesboro Jaycees and the Middlesboro
Little Theater. He was survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Miller of Lebanon, Penn.; and a grandson, Robert B.

WOOLUM, PALESTINE WENDELL, 88, of Dewitt, KY formerly of Arjay, passed away on
Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Pineville community Hospital. He was born April 10, 1919, at Slusher, KY, in Bell County, and was the
youngest child of Palestine Walker Woolum and Mary Ellen Bingham Woolum. He was
known to family and friends as Wendell. He was a 1936 graduate of Bell County High
School and had to walk four
miles from Sim’s Fork to Cary in order to catch the school bus. He only
remembered missing the bus two times and graduated from Bell High at age 16
years. Wendell was by occupation a coal miner and an accountant. On occasion he
would perform land surveying. He was a proud member of the Victory Missionary
Baptist Church at Arjay, the American Legion and a life member of the
Veteran’s
of Foreign Wars. During World War II, he served as a B-17 Flying Fortress crew-member. After
completing flight training, he was an aerial engineer instructor with the 2nd
Air Force in Texas. He was also stationed with the 15th Air Force in Tunisia,
Africa. According to his nieces, Judy Baker, Betty Collins and Geneva Moody, he was a
wealth of knowledge of his vast family history and the rich cultural ways of the
mountain
people. His ancestral roots were traced back to the late 1700’s. His
father, Palestine Walker Woolum (known to many as “Uncle Pal”) taught school
for over 60 years until he retired at the age of 82. Uncle Pal was one of the
first superintendents of the newly formed Bell County School System. Wendell’s
uncle and his father’s only brother, James F. Woolum, was a soldier with the
Union Army during the Civil War. James was
first captured by the Confederates at
age 15 and taken in to Tennessee, but he managed to escape and joined the Union
Army by the age of 16. Sgt. James Woolum was with Company C, 49th Regiment of
the Kentucky Volunteers. He died as a result of catching pneumonia at the age of 19 and five months before the war ended. In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by his beloved wife
of 37 years, Viola

W. Napier. Wendell has left his family and friends with vivid memories of life in the
early days of Bell County. He will always be missed by a host of
friends and family. He is survived by more than
19 nieces and nephews and 39
great-nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Arnett & Steele Funeral
Home with Rev. James Polly and Rev. Danny Robbins. Burial will be in the
Pinelawn Memorial Gardens, Pineville. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be S.B. and Stella Gambrel, Dr. & Mrs. Philip
