The Givens family originally settled in the Yellow Creek valley. Nancy Evans is a daughter of Rev Wm H Evans and Margaret "Peggy" Bull of Evans Mountain on Little Clear Creek. Rev Alex Givens and Nancy Evans made their home on the lower end of Evans Mountain toward Meldrum and Cannon Creek. Their children include: James G Givens, Letitia Givens, Margaret L Givens, Wm M Givens, Mary Jane Givens, Sarah Serilda Givens, and Granville C Givens. According to Fuson, many of the original wooden buildings of the town of Middlesboro were built from timber from Alex Givens's land.
