OBITUARIES

UNION CHURCH

BURNETT, John  was born June 13th, 1832, and died December 23, 1905.  He  professed faith in Christ and joined the church at Union, September 14th,  1856, and was appointed Clerk in 1857, which position he occupied until  death.

EDWARDS, Elizabeth
  was born May 6th, 1822 and died November 16th, 1903.  She professed faith in Jesus and joined the church at Big Barren when 17  years old, and moved to Union about the year 1856, and lived a devoted  member.

SHARP,  Emma A. was born July 11th, 1876, and died May 14th, 1902.  She  professed faith in Christ and joined the church at Union, January 4th,  1893.  She was a faithful member.

SHARP, Lissie  was born November 18th, 1884, and died June 11th, 1907.  She professed faith in Jesus and joined the church at Union, January 3rd,  1989.  She lived a devoted Christian.

Mt. HEBRON

VANDAGRIFF,  Jacob was born May 18, 1845, and fell asleep in Jesus April  1, 1907.  He realized the forgiveness of sin in person by the revelation  of Jesus Christ, when a young man.  He joined the Primitive Baptist Church  and was ordained deacon in June, 1898.  He lived a deacon, and faithful  member of Mt.. Hebron Church till death.  Our dearly beloved brother lived  what he professed.  We esteem all of our members as precious, and our  prayer is that all live what they profess.

THORN HILL CHURCH:

MALICOAT,  Joel -was born Feb. 5, 1819.  Died October 20th, 1910.  He served as church clerk at Bean Creek a number of years.

MALICOAT,  Julie -was born Dec 28, 1839.  Died Oct. 6th, 1910.  They were faithful members.

 ROSE HILL CHURCH:

LAY,  Susan -was born Dec. 29, 1845.  Died May 30, 1911.  Joined the church twenty-one years ago.  She attended her church meeting as long as she was able.

MITCHEL, Dona -was born Feb 17, 1876.  Died June 21, 1911.  Joined the church about eleven years ago.  Her seat is vacant and she is greatly missed.

 PLEASANT POINT CHURCH:

KECK,  Deacon Matthew -was born January 21, 1829 and died June 26, 1911. He professed faith in Christ at eighteen years of age, and joined the church in a short time, and was ordained a deacon.  He always loved to talk of the love, mercy and goodness of God.  He was faithful till death.

PROPHET, Elizabeth - was born July 10, 1832.  Died February 23, 1911. Professed a hope when sixteen years old.

  BROWNEY's CREEK CHURCH:

WILSON,  Elder Robert -born January 18, 1820 and died January 22, 1911, aged 91 years and four days.  He was married four times and was the father of ten children, nine of whom and his fourth wife still live; joined the Primitive Baptist Church of Christ at Browney's Creek at about the age of eighteen; served as church clerk about forty years; began preaching at about the age of eighty and was ordained about two years later; and was sound in the faith, able in doctrine and melting in the pulpit; inquired for the old landmarks; was able among the very ablest fireside preachers; was a true teacher and a father in the gospel, tender and kind; lived a consistent Christian life and let his light shine in word and deed.  In his last illness he requested his friends to grieve not for him, stating that his way was perfectly clear and his doubts removed; said he loved the brethren and liked to be with them, but that he loved Jesus, too, and hence wanted to go to him.  A few hours before his death he clapped his hands for joy during the singing of "O Happy Time, Long Waited For," and in full triumph of a living faith he fell asleep in Jesus.

OBITUARIES

LOST CREEK CHURCH:

SOUTHERN,  Margarett - was born June 10, 1864.  Died April 9, 1914. Joined the church December 4, 1887.  She was an invalid for ten years, and confined to her room about all the time.  She bore her sufferings like a Christian.  She leaves a loving husband and five children to mourn. Funeral services were conducted at the church by Elder T. W. Baker, where a host of friends had gathered to pay their last respects.  Her body was then deposited in the old cemetery to rest till Jesus comes after His people.

WEAVER, John Bradford - was born August 22, 1836.  Died June 16, 1914. He was married to Elizabeth HILL August 2, 1860.  He leaves his companion and nine children, sixty-four grand and great grandchildren.  He joined the church in February, 1876.  He was a very faithful member and a good citizen.  His home was a great place for his brethren and friends to gather.  In the two division that came in the church, he was found with the orderly party, contending for the grand old principles that his every distinguished the church from other people.  "Uncle John", as we all called him, always put in his full part, and often more in the living by the labors of his hands.  He provided plentifully for his own house and often lent the helping hand to the needy.  He shocked wheat the day before he died.  He drove the cows to the pasture the morning that he died.  On his way back, he felt a distress about his heart, when some of the family had to assist him back to the house, where he died in an hour or so.  His funeral was conducted by his brother and pastor, Elder Thomas Weaver, and assisted by Elders T. W. Baker and H. H. Oaks. There was a large number of people assembled to take the last look, on earth, of this good man.

ROSE HILL:

KITTS, John - was born in the year 1832, died in May, 1914.  He joined the church about ten years ago.

LAY,  Alco
-was born August 16, 1875.  Died August 26, 1913.  He professed faith in Christ when very young.  Joined the church and lived a very faithful member until death.

WAGGONER, Dellie - was born in the year 1882, died July 3rd, 1914. Dellie professed a hope in Christ when very young; joined the church and lived a faithful member.

WAGGONER,  J. K. -was born in the year 1844, DIED December 16, 1913.  He was among the first that joined the church at Rose Hill.  He lived a faithful member.

SHILOH:

WATSON, Julia - was born December 31, 1884.  Joined the church in 1908. She lived a consistent member until death.  She rejoiced the last few moments and fell asleep in the arms of Jesus shouting and praising the Lord.  She is sadly missed by all.  She leaves to mourn an aged father and mother and four sisters.

OBITUARIES

LOST CREEK CHURCH:

BRANSON,  Elder Eli -was born October 9, 1839.  He professed a hope at about the age of sixteen, and joined the church at HINDS Creek and was baptized by Elder Isaac GENTRY.  He began preaching the Primitive Baptist doctrine at about the age of twenty-seven years, and remained a strong believer in the same until his death.  He assisted in the organization of a number of churches and served a number of churches as their efficient pastor.  He was a good lamb feeder.  He served the Association about twenty-five years as clerk.  He traveled and preached in different states of the Union. He was married to Mary Ann MOYERS, July 11, 1867, and to this union were born four children, Henry Asberry, Samuel Joseph, Benjamin Franklin and Isaac Wesley BRANSON, all of whom survive him.  After the
death of his first wife he was united in marriage to Mrs. Rhoda BRANTLEY, widow of John R. BRANTLEY, and to this union were born two children, Paris Verlin and Ella V. BRANSON, both of whom survive.  He died October 15, 1914, aged seventy-five years and six days.  Cause of death was paralysis, of which he had three strokes, the last occurring nine days before his death.  The body was interred at the Fair View Cemetery, three miles of Zenda, Kansas, there to rest until Jesus comes after all of his
covenant people.

SHILOH CHURCH:

JARNAGAN, Maggie - was born in 1879; professed faith in Christ in 1905; joined the church in October, 1913, and died February 1, 1915.  She leaves  to mourn a husband and three children.


UNION CHURCH:

KECK,  Bettie -was born March 19, 1842; professed faith in Christ in  youth; joined the church in 1856; died May 14, 1915.

SANDERS' CHAPEL:

PHILLIPS, Margaret - died March 3, 1915.  She leaves to mourn a husband and three children.  She professed a hope in Christ at the age of sixteen years; joined the church August 5, 1911.  Her spirit is resting with Jesus until it shall be re-united with the body in the resurrection.    Paralee MOSS was born in CLAIBORNE County, Tenn., in 1855, and died January 13, 1915.  She was the daughter of William and Mary MOSS.  She leaves four sisters.  She professed a hope in Christ some years ago and joined the church at Walnut Flat, Ky., and was baptized by Elder A. D. RUTHERFORD.  She moved with her parents to Kentucky in 1863, then to Williamsburg where she made her home with her sister until death.  Some years ago she moved her membership to Sanders' Chapel, Knoxville, Tenn. She took a great interest in attending her church meetings and assisting her humble pastor in a financial way.  Space in this minute forbids speaking of all the kind acts and deeds of this good woman.   She was always ready to help the needy and the cause of her Master.

MT. HEBRON CHURCH:

BAKER, Rebecca A. -daughter of Elder and Mrs. F. W. BAKER, was born January 18, 1895, and departed this life July 18, 1915, making her stay on earth twenty years and six months.  She received a hope in Christ in her fourteenth year; joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Mt. Hebron November 23, and was baptized November 30, 1912.  She lived a devoted member until death.  She leaves to mourn our sad loss,  a father, mother, one sister, two brothers, the church and a host of friends and relatives; but we feel that our loss is her eternal gain.  During her illness she often spoke of her home and longed to go.

HANSARD, Ethel C.
- was born September 8, 1894, and died December 15, 1914.  She was a faithful member.

HOWERTON, Ellen - was born March 18, 1857, and died February 8, 1915. She leaves a husband, five children and a host of friends.

HANSARD, Ida M. - was born December 17, 1815, and died June 4, 1913.  She leaves a husband and seven children to mourn.

OBITUARIES


ARNWINE,  Sister Vesta -died May 18, 1934.  Age 76 years.  She joined  Salem Primitive Baptist Church in August 1893.  She and her husband who  preceded her in death only three years, served this church as deacon and  deaconess for several years.  She dearly loved the old church and was one  of her most faithful members.  We miss her sweet smile, her motherly  advice, and the sound of those praises she often rendered to her Heavenly  Father, but He knew bet.  She was permitted on Sunday before her sudden  death on Wednesday to attend a sweet communion service at her home church.  We feel she was still feasting when the summons came.  Besides the church,
she leaves nine children, thirty grandchildren and many friends to mourn  their loss.

ATKINS,  Brother Milton
-was born October 12, 1875, died December 5,  1934.  He professed a faith in Christ at an early age, joined the  Primitive Baptist Church at Norton, later moving his membership to Salem  where he remained a member until his death.  He leaves to mourn his loss a  wife, two step sons and one step daughter one brother and one sister also  a host of relatives and friends.  Although we know there is a vacancy in our  home which never can be filled, but we feel that we should say, "Sleep on,  dear one, and take thy rest.  God called you home.  He though it best."

BRANTLEY,  Brother Samuel
-was born October 22nd, 1867.  Died February  4th, 1935.  Brother BRANTLEY professed a hope in his youthful days and  about January 1894 he joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Mossy  Springs and lived a faithful member until death.  Brother BRANTLEY was  public in prayer.  He leaves a widow, six sons, three daughters, and a  host of brethren and friends to mourn.  But we have the evidence that our  loss is his gain.

HOPSON, Elder A. J.
- was born December 29, 1853, being the oldest child  of William Y. HOPSON and Julia Ann RITTER HOPSON.  He professed a hope  December 19, 1873 and joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Salem.  Was  baptized the second Sunday in February 1874 by Elder S. D. BRANSON.  He was  married to Melzelia Jane HURST November 21, 1879 by Elder J. M.. Carter.  Brother HOPSON was ordained to the ministry the second Saturday in June  1892 by Elders William WEST, John SULFRIDGE, and Richard ATKINS.  Elder HOPSON was a faithful pastor and served many of the Churches of  this Association.  He was loved by all the brethren and sisters and is  missed by them greatly yet he had lived a long time.  (note:  a picture of Elder A.J. MIRACLE,  Sister Rachel -was born June 18, 1897, died October 25, 1933.  She received a hope in Christ in 1928 and joined the Primitive Baptist  Church at Calvin August 1st and was baptized August 31, 1930.  Sister  Miracle lived a faithful member until death.  She leaves a husband,  daughter, and a host of friends to mourn.

SWEAT, Sister Nancy A.
- was born February 23, 1862, died December 24,  1934.  She professed faith in Christ in her youthful days and joined the  Primitive Baptist Church at Lost Creek and later moved her membership to  Mossy Springs.  She was faithful and was loved by all  who knew her.

WILSON, Sister Elizabeth ROBBINS -of Cannon Creek Church, was born November 30m, 1864.  Departed this life April 6, 1935.  Ws married to Irvin WILSON, November 9, 1883.  She was the mother of 10 children, 6 sons and 4 daughters, while only two daughters survive her.  Sister WILSON lived  widow 27 years.  She joined the church, August 2nd Saturday 1914 and lived a faithful member until death came.  She was loved by all who knew her.  Her faith was firm and she said "I want to die, I don't want to live, I want to go, I want to go."  She often said during her 9 days illness.  Our loss is her happy exchange.          By Oliver HURST, Clerk, Colmar, Ky.

WOODS, Sister Mary -wife of John WOODS was born May 27, 1881.  Died  March 27, 1935.  Professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined the  Primitive Baptist Church at Big Barren Jan. 25, 1925 and baptized the 4th  Sunday of May, 1925.  Baptized by Elder J. E. HURST.  Funeral services  held by Elders PROCTOR, EDWARDS, and BOWLING.      Written by the Church Clerk.

OBITUARIES

BRUMMETT, Sister Salafan   was born 5, 1886 (sic).  Died March 15, 1937.  Joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Upland 1933.  She lived a faithful member until her death.  She loved to attend her Church meetings.  When she took sick she said that a doctor would not do her any good.  She said the Lord had called her home and that He had a better home for her.  She said she was ready to leave this troublesome world.  She leaves to mourn her death her husband and eight children and many friends.  We feel our loss is her eternal gain.

JOHNSON, Mary Anne WOODS -wife of Madison JOHNSON, was born Dec. 6, 1880, died April 22, 1937.  Age 56 years, 4 months and 16 days.  She joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Big Barren, Sept. 3, 1904, was baptized by her father, Elder J.J. WOODS, at NEEDHAM's Ford in Clinch River.  She removed her membership from Big Barren five or six years ago to Sanders Chapel at Knoxville, Tenn., where she remained a member until death.  She was faithful to the dear old Church and the Association of Primitive Baptists ever since she became a member.  She was buried at Big Barren where she awaits the Resurrection Morn.  She was survived by her dear mother, Nancy Jane WOODS, only one month and 16 days, when she died. She is survived by her husband, four brothers and other relatives.  Our loss is her eternal gain.   Written by her husband, Madison JOHNSON.

LEWIS,  Jessie -was born April 26, 1842.  He professed Faith in Christ and joined Mt. Hebron Church on Saturday before the 4th Sunday in June 1868, making a member of the church 69 years and lives a devoted Christian life and was always ready to help.  He is greatly missed but our loss is his eternal gain.

McCARTY,  Sister Martha J. -was born in the year of 1862.  She professed  Faith in Christ in her early life, joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Mossy Springs and was Baptized by Elder S. M. PETREE the 2nd Sunday in  May, 1894.  She lived a faithful member until death.  She was loved by all  who knew her.  She is survived by three sons and three daughters.  The  home has lost a loving mother, the Church has lost a faithful sister, but we have the evidence that her spirit has gone to God who gave it.     Written by John F. ROBBINS, Thomas Wesley
-born Jan. 31, 1855, departed this life March 19, 1937.  Age 82 years.  Was married to Martha WILSON, Aug 21, 1879, and to this union was born 11 children, 6 sons and 5 daughters.  His dear companion, 5 sons and 3 daughters survive.  Bro. ROBBINS professed a hope in Christ in middle age, joined CANNON Creek Church recently and lived a faithful member till death.  He leaves a host of friends, but our loss is his happy gain.     By Oliver HURST, Clerk.

TOLIVER, Bryant -
was born Feb. 11, 1886, married to Jane SHELTON Nov. 20, 1887, died Feb. 20, 1937.  He professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Church at Big Barren and lived a faithful member until death.  He leaves to mourn 4 children, 23 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and host of friends and relatives.  Funeral services conducted by Elder Proctor EDWARDS.

TOLLIVER, Jane SHELTON
- was born February 23, 1871, and was married to Bryant TOLIVER Nov 29, 1887, and died Feb. 21, 1937.  She professed hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Church at Big Barren and lived a faithful member until death.  She leaves to mourn 4 children, 23 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and host of relatives and friends. Funeral service conducted by Elders Proctor EDWARDS and J. E. HURST.

WOODS,  Nancy J.
-was born May 8, 1850, died June 8, 1937, being 87 years and 1 month old.  Professed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Church at Big Barren and lived a faithful member until death.  Married to Elder J. J. WOODS in 1871.  She leaves to mourn four sons, one brother and a host of relatives an friends, she being the oldest member of Big Barren Church.  Funeral services held by Elders Proctor EDWARDS, and J. E.  HURST.

Obituaries

Boatright,  Joseph - born in the year of 1865, joined the Church at Browney's  Creek, June 1913 and was a faithful member attending his Church as long as  he was able but suffered for some years. Died Jan. 14, 1938 and was laid  to rest till the Great Judgment Day. Our loss is his eternal gain.

Heifer, Sister - was born Oct. 20, 1858, died Dec. 5, 1937. She professed a  hope in Christ in early years and joined the church at Mt Hebron, Anderson  Co. Tenn. Later she moved her membership to Sanders Chapel, Knoxville,  Tenn., where she lived a faithful member until her death called her. She  was a member of the church about sixty years. Funeral services conducted  at the home by Elder J. E. Hurst.

Miracle, Abraham - born May 5, 1869, and joined the Primitive Baptist Church  of Christ at Browney's Creek August 1918 and was a faithful member till  his death, which was December 17, 1937. Our loss is his eternal gain.

Slusher,  Robert
-born in the year 1867 joined the Church at Browny's Creek,  June 1916 and lived a faithful life till death, December 18, 1937. Our  loss is his eternal gain.

Waggoner, James W. - was born May 8, 1870. Died March 13, 1938. Aged 67 years  10 Months and 10 days. He professed a hope in Christ at 17. Joined the  Church at Sanders Chapel, Feb. 1934 and lived a faithful member until  death. Funeral Services conducted at the church by his beloved pastor,  Elder J. E. Hurst. He leaves a companion, children and friends to mourn  his loss. To the relatives and friends, let us look up on high and believe  that our friend and beloved one is there, and the hearts that are bereaved  and saddened here below, may they be filled with unspeakable love when we  reach the " City no the Hill."

Wilson, Rindy Hoskins
-was born Jan. 12, 1898, deceased Nov. 1, 1937. Age  39. Was wedded to Richard H. Wilson, July 2, 1920. To this union were born  six children, of which only two and her husband survive. She joined Cannon  Creek Church, 3rd Sunday July 1922. Was a precious member till death. Though  an invalid, she was kind to all. She bore her sufferings with much  patience. Her husband was kind and true to her. We feel that her  sufferings have ceased and in exchange, happiness forever. - By Oliver  Hurst.

OBITUARIES

BALLARD, S. R. - was born June 16, 1870, died March 5, 1943.  Came to Bethel Church by letter a number of years ago.  Lived a faithful Christian life and a faithful member.  Leaves to mourn his departure a wife, two children and one grandson and friends.

BRIDGES, Maurice W.
- was born February 9, 1859, departed this life March  2, 1943.  Joined HINDS Creek Church in early life, later came to the Mt.  Hebron Church.  Served both churches as a deacon, a firm believer and lived it.  A good counselor and adviser to all.  Leaves to mourn his passing a wife and six children and a host of friends.

ELLISON, Matilda Jane OWENS - was born November 20, 1865.  Died January 14, 1943.  She leaves to mourn her passing four children, two brothers, two sisters, five granddaughters, six grandsons, five great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.  She joined DAVIS' Creek a number of years ago.  Our loss is her eternal gain.

MAYES, Mrs. Hassie (KECK)
- was born December 10, 1900, passed away August 17, 1942.   She joined Big Barron Church and lived a faithful member until death.  She was church clerk until she died.  She leaves to mourn her death nine children and many friends and relatives.

MILLER, John F.
 and Nancy J. MILLER  John F. MILLER was born October 30, 1874, died September 3, 1942. Bro. MILLER first joined Mossy Springs about 50 years ago.  The lake forced this church to disband and he came to Union Church and was elected
 church Clerk.  He was clerk of the Powell's Valley Association at the time of his death.  Sister Miller was born June 30, 1875, died November 25, 1942.  She joined Cave Spring Church about 50 years ago, then moved to Mossy Springs, then to Union Church.  They leave to mourn their passing seven children, 23 grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends. A picture of John F. MILLER and Nancy J. MILLER is inserted by the obituary.

STREVEL, John E. - was born October 31, 1890, died November 30, 1942.  He joined Sanders' Chapel in 1937.  He lived a true and faithful member until death.  He was a deacon of our church also.  There is left to mourn his passing, his wife, two sons, three daughters, four grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters and a host of relatives and friends.

OBITUARIES

ATKINS, Sister Anga -one of the oldest members of Salem Church, passed  away January 1, 1946.  She was born Jan 21, 1866.  The good Lord blessed  her with a sweet hope in Him in early life.  She joined the church at the  age of thirteen.  She prized her church above all other institutions, always manifesting her love for the Brethren and Sisters, and a kindly  spirit toward all.   Five daughters, two sons, the church and a host of friends mourn her passing.

COLLINS,  Brother E. M.
-was born December 1, 1872, deceased January 26,  1946, age 73, 1 month, 25 days.   He joined Mt. Hebron Church January 1896.  He was a licensed preacher,  He leaves to mourn his death, wife 5 children, the church and a host of  friends.  We believe our loss is his eternal gain.

CUPP, Brother Dannie -age 39, died in an automobile accident which  occurred July 12, 1946.  He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church at  Simmons Chapel.  A native of Kentucky, a member of a large and well known  family of CUPPS on Brownies Creek, Ky.  Married to Katie MIRACLE, December  13, 1923.  To this union was born a large family of children.  Survivors are the wife, Katie MIRACLE CUPP, 8 sons, and two daughters, Father and  Mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. CUPP, Harlan, KY.

GILBERT, Sister Nancy
-age 83, departed this life August 14, 1945.   She joined the church at Salem, September, 1899 and lived a faithful  member until death. THOMPSON, Brother P. T. -born Sept. 1866, departed this life May 16,  1941, father of 8 sons and 2 daughters.   He joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Brownies Creek in the year  1920.  Lived a faithful member until his death.  He leaves his wife, 7  sons and 1 daughter, a host of friends with the church to mourn his loss.  Our loss is his eternal again.      The Clerk

HARRELL, Brother Frank - was born June 14, 1890, died May 27, 1946,  making his stay on earth 55 years, 11 mo. and 13 days.  He joined the  Primitive Baptist Church at Salem in October 1930, and remained a member  until death.

HARRELL, Luther Junior
- was born in Grainger County, Tennessee on the 13th day of August, 1921.  He was the eldest son of Mrs. Sallie OVERHOLD  HARRELL and the late James Luther HARRELL.  He was graduated from the Washburn High School in May 1939, and was  active in all the school endeavors.  He was inducted into the United States on the 17'th day of August,  1942, and received military training at Camp Blanding, Florida.  Being  selected for further training, he was sent to Officers' Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he ranked high in his class, graduating in  April, 1943, receiving the commission of 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry of  the United States Army.  He was then transferred to Camp Walters, Texas,  where he was made communications instructor, and while serving in such capacity, was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant early in 1944. He was sent overseas in October, 1943, where he served with the 79th  Infantry in the European Theater of Operations, until he was killed in  battle in Eastern France on the 16th day of January, 1944, giving his life  for his country and those he loved.  In so serving his country, he displayed dauntless courage and gallantry, and in recognition of his  meritorious service, he was awarded posthumously the Silver Star and Oak Leaf Cluster, for unexceptional valor beyond the line of duty. He joined the Salem Primitive Baptist Church of Grainger County,  Tennessee, and was baptized on the 12th day of November, 1938, and was a devout and active member until his death.  He leaves surviving him his mother, Mrs. Sallie OVERHOLD HARRELL, and
four sisters, :  Grace, Beverly and Katherine HARRELL and Mrs. R. C. CARTER, all of Middlesboro, Kentucky; and four brothers, Sheafer, Hollis, Doyle and Kenneth HARRELL, also of Middlesboro, Kentucky, his grandfather James Erwin  HARRELL of Washburn, Tennessee, and many other relatives and a host of friends, who mourn his leaving.

HARRELL,  Sister Martha -was born March 18, 1865, departed this life  August 25, 1944.  She joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Salem  December 19, 1896, and lived a faithful member until death.

POFF,  Sister Nancy E.
-was born December 8, 1870.  Departed this life,  December 15, 1945.  She leaves to mourn her loss 7 children, 35  grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two sisters and a host of friends.   She joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Brownies' Creek, about 40 years ago, later moved to Bethel Church in Richmond, Ky. and later to  London Church, London, Ky., where she lived a faithful member until death. We feel our loss is her gain.   London Church.

 Union Church


Brewer, Deacon C. U. -born January 31, 1893, died January 7, 1948. Age 54  years, 11 month, and 7 days. he was wed to Freda Bell Whited, May 28,  1917. To this union was born one son and eleven daughters. He professed a  hope in Christ at the age of 40 years and joined the Union Church in June  1937, lived a faithful member until death. He leaves to mourn his  departure, wife, one son, ten daughters and thirteen grandchildren, and a  host of friends and relatives. We feel our loss is his eternal gain.

 Davis Creek

Dunn,  Sister Sarah Ann Hopper -was born October 7, 1861; died May 25, 1948;  being 86 years and 7 months old. She was united in marriage to Joseph Dunn  in 1877. To this union eight children were born. She joined the Primitive  Baptist Church at Davis Creek in 1912 and lived a faithful member until  death.

Wilson,  Elder R. D. -was born June 17, 1877 in Bell Co. Kentucky. He was  ordained a minister in 1911 in the Primitive Baptist faith. He joined  Davis Creek in 1943 by letter. He is survived by his wife Lucy Wilson,  five sons, six daughters, Fifty-one grandchildren, Twelve Great-grandchildren and two brothers.
