The KY Biographies was a project that was started by Jeff Murphy. Jeff was the original founder of the KYGenWeb project in March of 1996. In August of that same year, Jeff resigned from it and started the KY Biographies project, which in turn led to the US Biographies projects.

Following Jeff's death in 2001, Nancy Trice, the KYGenWeb Coordinator was contacted by Jeff's son-in-law with the request that the Biographies be moved to the KYGenWeb site, since neither he or any of the family had the knowdledge or desire to maintain the project but did want the information that Jeff spent the last years of his life working on maintained. In July, 2001, the biographies were uploaded to the KYGenWeb site. Pam Durstock wrote a search engine that makes searching the biographies easy, or you can browse the biographies by surname of the subject or by county. There are 32,535 surnames indexed in the biographies, so the chances of finding a match are very good.
