James W. HAMPTON died in 1872 in Carroll County as a result of a train
accident. He was married to Parthena MAY and had three small children,
Anderson, born c1863, Victoria, born Jun 1869 and Alfloria, 14 2 1871, my
great grandmother. Parthena sued and got $10,000 dollars. In 1875 she married
Lewis SHEETS. They soon divorced and Parthena retained her first married
name. Victoria married Joseph ROSELLE, Alfloria married Joseph LONG. I have
not been able to find any information on Anderson, except a listing in the
1870 (Owen Co.) and 1880 Carroll Co. census. I would love to know if he
married and had children. Parthena spent her remaining years with Alforia in
California. Thanks for any help, Sandy

Looking for William Jewell, father of Edward Jewell who was born 4 April
1864 in Turner's Station. Family lore states Edward ran away from home at age
16 (1880) because he disliked his stepfather. Apparently William died between
1864-1880 in Carroll County. On the 1880 Census there is an EL Jewell, age
16, living with an uncle, J Kirkpatrick on a farm in Clinton Co. This could
possible be my grandfather. No one knows the name of William's wife. Any
assistance you could give me would be greatly appreciated, as there are no
birth or school records from this period. Thanks, Reising

My Carroll County brick wall is my husband's grandfather.
He was born in 1885 in Kentucky. Family lore says it was Carroll County.
The first record I have of him is in 1908 in Umatilla County, Oregon where he
was arrested for forgery under the name of Edward Barrett. He evidently
was married in 1911. His name was Charles Howard when he married my
husband's grandmother Rachel Brewer in 1915. He took off with her
father's horse, sold it as his own, was caught and convicted of forgery again
and sent to the Oregon State Penitentiary. He was in and out of prison
until 1929 in Washington, Oregon and California. According to family
lore he went back to Kentucky. I'm looking for any Howard or Barrett
families who might have a missing Edward, Charles, Robert or James born in
1885/6. Thanks! Ronda Howard us5@comcast.net
