Noble Nash Hundley, born 5 Jan., 1863 in Port Royal,
died 1949 in Owen County, Ky. He was the son of Evan Hundley and Elizabeth
Wilson Hundley, grandson of Sidney Hundley and Nancy Owens. He
married Laura Douthitt, 24
Feb., 1891, in Henry County.
Noble Nash was Capt. of several Paddle Wheel Packet
Boats. Many
stories are told about how he used to stop and spend the night with his sister
Pearl Hawkins who lived near the KY. River in Henry County. He would always let
her know he was coming by a special signal he gave with his whistle.
In the winter of 1917-18 the rivers froze over and
he was stranded in Carrollton, Ky. He bought a pair of ice skates and skated all
the way to his home in Gratz,
The "Falls City Packet Boat" picture was
given to me by Lucy, daughter of Noble Nash Hundley. A large picture of the boat
can be seen at the Owen County Historical Society and shows Noble Nash in a
white shirt coming off the boat.
