* Note from submitter, Druscilla Hill:
John Backus was my 3rd
great grandpa. He and his family migrated to Kentucky from
Madison, Indiana, in about 1860. They lived on Wright's ridge in
a house which was located behind the Wright cemetery. Later the
Backus family moved to the east prong of the Locust Creek. My
great grandpa Jerome built a two-story home and later his son
Jesse, my grandpa, had a four room home up the creek. The four
room home is no longer on Locust Creek. It was purchased and moved
to another location.
He was born in Prussia and migrated to America in 1851. According
to his naturalization papers found at the courthouse in Madison,
they departed Antwerp, Belgium and arrived in New York City.
Their final destination was Madison. Perhaps they had relatives
which lived there. I have been unable to determine that
information.
