Tracing A Land Title

The Property Valuation Administrator at the Carroll County courthouse keeps track of the current owners of properties in the county.  He has maps with sections marked out on them, and each section is marked with a number that refers to records in filing cabinets there -- those give the names and mailing addresses of the current owner.   Usually it will also have a reference to the most-recent deed, so that's where you would start tracing the title back.
