OLIVER, Hugh G.

JACKSON: Hugh G. Oliver, 81, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Covington County Hospital. Visitation is 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church Chapel in Jackson. Services are 2 p.m. today at the church chapel with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park South. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street in Jackson is handling arrangements.

Mr. Oliver was a native of Marlana, Ky. and a longtime resident of Jackson.

He retired after working 30 years at The Clarion-Ledger newspaper. A veteran of World War II serving in U.S. Army. He was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and a Mason.

Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife Annie Erline Oliver in 2000.

Survivors include his daughters, Glenda Purvis of Richland, Susan Stamey of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Ann Evans, Russ Newman, Brittany Purvis, Katie Stamey, Claire Stamey; one great grandchild, Brandon Oliver Evans; sisters, Doris Irving of Stanford, Ky., Lillian Zwahlen of Waynesburg, Ky., and Barbara Siler of Ohio.
