Wilkinson was a member of West Side Christian Church, and a member of the Casey County Bank Board, the Casey County Hospital Board, and the Casey County Health Board.
Former Casey County Judge-Executive David Johnson said Wilkinson was ``one of the best people I've ever known in my life.''
``He was the kind of man every young man would like to be like,'' Johnson said. ``And every older man wish he had've been.
``He was the person who was always giving. He was generous with his time, with his finances. He always gave the best of himself to get the best out of others. He was just extremely kind and very considerate of other people.''
When his brother, former Kentucky Governor Wallace Wilkinson, was in town, Wilkinson was the contact person for him in the county.
``And Leonard went out of his way to help people with getting blacktopped roads and bridges and things for the school system,'' Johnson added. ``He spent a lot of his personal finances doing that and never received any salary or anything for that position. He did it willingly and freely. He was just an extra-special individual.''
