Raymond Lay
LIBERTY - Raymond Harvie Lay, 82, Ky. 1547, died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 19, 1914, in Casey County, he was son of the late Johnny and Betty Pettyjohn Lay. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Craftsman Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Chelf Lay; five daughters, Betty Jean Warner of Campbellsville, Emma Sutherlin of Missouri, Linda Fay Helm of Burnside, Lecia Marlene True of Hustonville and Sheli Gay Hogue of Acton; six sons, Marshall Lay of Florida, John William Lay of Liberty, Preston Lay of Tennessee, Gary Lay of Colorado, Glendon Lay and Terry Dewayne Lay, both of Liberty; four sisters, Dorothy Hicks of Greenwood, Ind., Elsie Wethington of Advance, Ind., Effie Murphy of Liberty and Louisa Dyer of Winchester; 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Richie Curtis and Vernon Blakey. Burial will be in Caney Fork Cemetery.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. today.

Lelia Bessie Rousey
MORELAND - Services for Lelia Bessie Wilcher Rousey, 79, Carpenters Creek Road, Parksville, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Delas Earles. Burial in Hustonville Cemetery.
She died Wednesday at home.
Born Oct. 13, 1917, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Annie B. Southerland Wilcher. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was the widow of Lawrence Rousey.
Survivors include three daughters, Louis Hill of Danville, Barbara Goode of Stanford and Francis Ferrell of Parksville; two sons, Marion Rousey and Les Rousey, both of Hustonville; three stepdaughters, Pina Bartle of Dayton, Ohio, Jewell Goodpaster of Bradenton, Fla., and Ruby Overstreet of La Follette, Tenn.; two stepsons, Howard Rousey of Danville and Lowell Rousey of Dayton; two sisters, Mamie Smith of Tampa, Fla., and Clara Johnson of Danville; 32 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Frank and Jessie Rousey; a stepdaughter, Mabel Minor; and a stepson, Lewis Rousey.
Pallbearers will be Chester Shepperson, Buddy and Robert Southerland, Hershel, Lester and Chester Maddox. Honorary pallbearers are Virginia Hill, Brenda Gentry, Carol Ashcraft, Donna Goode, Cathy Smith, Sandy Davis, Jennifer Richards, Ronda Nolan, and Karen Elder.

Ernest L. Atwood Sr.
LIBERTY- Services for Ernest Lee Atwood Sr., 89, Griffith Ridge Road, are 2 p.m. today at Bartle Funeral Home by Donald Lear. Burial will be in Caney Fork Cemetery.
He died Friday at Friendship House.
Born Oct. 6, 1907, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Daniel Boone and Sallie Wilson Atwood. He was the widower of Tina Lou Whited Atwood.
He was a retired farmer and former owner of Atwood's Grocery. He was a member of Carr's Chapel First Church of God.
Survivors include three daughters, Louise Atwood, Ila Maxine Murphy and Vallie Jean Murphy, all of Liberty; two sons, Marvin Atwood of Danville and Ernest Atwood Jr. of Liberty; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. [Published April 20, 1997]

Moneda E. Roy
LIBERTY- Moneda Emily Roy, 68, of Price Creek Road, died Sunday at home.
Born Oct. 28, 1928, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Drewry and Loner Luttrell Wilson. She was a homemaker and attended Holiness churches.
Survivors include her husband, Hubert Roy,; three sons, Kenneth, Ralph and Garland Roy, all of Liberty; three daughters, Jacklin Bernard of Dunnville, Dixie Rigney of Winchester and Sharon Dunbar of Jamestown; three sisters, Sylvia Wilson of Dunnville, Geraldine Luttrell of Liberty and Bertha Burkett of Ohio; a brother, Everett Wilson of Illinois; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. Eddie Warren. Burial will be in the Roy family cemetery.

William T. Hatter
WAYNESBURG- Services for William Terrell Hatter, 88, of Walltown Community, Kings Mountain, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home By the Rev. Harold Austin. Burial will be in K.P. Hall Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18-American Legion.
He died Friday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
Born Jan. 1, 1909, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Ranson and Rosa Napier Hatter. He was a retired rural mail carrier, farmer and carpenter, and a member of Grove Ridge Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific as a gunner. He was the widower of Alva Brown Hatter.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Wall Hatter; four sons, Lyndale Hatter of Cincinnati, Raymond Hatter of Liberty, John Hatter and James Hatter, both of Walltown; five daughters, Diane Simms and Reba Phillippi, both of Walltown, Joan Spears and Kay Spears, both of Cincinnati and Wilma ``Bunt'' Floyd of Hurricane Ridge; two brothers, Charles ``Tige'' Hatter and Carl ``Tony' Hatter, both of Walltown; three sisters, Lela Dunham of Cincinnati, Fayrene Bryant of Columbus, Ohio, and Marlene Durham of Science Hill; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Earl C. Peyton
MORELAND - Services for Earl Christian Peyton, 85, Ellisburg Community, Hustonville, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. G.W. Smith. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.
He died Wednesday at Fort Logan Hospital, Stanford.
Born April 24, 1911, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Joel and Ollie Ellis Peyton. He was a retired farmer and a member of Ellisburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lula B. Reid Peyton; two sons, Chris Peyton of Hustonville, Joel Peyton of Corbin; a daughter, Earlene Smock of Danville; two brothers, Floyd Peyton of Hustonville and Ralph Peyton of Indiana; two sisters, Mae Price of Liberty and Ethel Kelly of Ohio; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Lowell Smock, Darrell Gorley, Neil Reed, Bernard Peyton, Gary Reed and Bill Brown. Honorary pallbearers are Jack White, Junior Reed, Elwood Ellis, Robert Reed, Gene Crowe and Dr. John Price.

Eulis ``Sonny Boy'' Sandusky
LIBERTY - Eulis ``Sonny Boy'' Sandusky, 67, Beldon Street, Liberty, died Friday at his home.
Born Aug. 14, 1929, in Casey County, he was the son of the late William Tom and Flora Alice Glover Sandusky. He was an Army veteran, retired grocery store manager, and lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Ilena Passmore Sandusky; a son, Michael Sandusky of Liberty; a stepson, Billy Grider of Liberty; two sisters, Inez Griffith of Liberty and Loretta Murphy of Dunnville; four brothers, Charles Sandusky of Post Falls, Idaho, W.J. Sandusky of Charleston, S.C., and Otis and Jerry Sandusky, both of Liberty; and three stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. Phillip Smallwood. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Robert M. Wheeler
LIBERTY - Services for Robert M. Wheeler, 60, Liberty, will be 1 p.m. today at Bartle Funeral Home with Marvin Lane officiating. Burial will be in Brush Creek Cemetery.
He died Thursday at Casey County Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1936, in Casey County, he was a son of the late David Aaron and Pearlie May Atwood Wheeler. He was a farmer.
Survivors include two brothers, Herbert Wheeler of Liberty and Howard Wheeler of Lexington; and two sisters, Mary Clements and Lizzie Singleton, both of Liberty.

Bonnie J. League
LANCASTER - Services for Bonnie Jean League, 58, Lancaster, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. Lewis Smith. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.
She died Sunday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born May 31, 1938, in Casey County, she was a daughter of Mary Vina Asberry Crowe of Hustonville and the late Elmer Homer Crowe. She was a homemaker and a member of First Church of God, Hustonville.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Lewis League; a son, Ralph S. League of Lancaster; a daughter, Sherri Lynn Ray of Lancaster; two sisters, Edith Carrier of Hustonville and Laura Gifford of Lancaster; two brothers, Elmer Crowe and Henry Crowe, both of Junction City; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Darrell Gifford, David Coffman, Dale Carrier, Ricky Crowe, Mike Crowe and Danny League.

Myrtle H. Wheeler
PERRYVILLE - Myrtle Mae Hatchel Wheeler, 85, Community Center Drive, Hustonville, formerly of Gravel Switch, died Thursday at Charleston Health Care Center.
Born Sept. 6, 1911, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Winford and Mary Jane Spalding Hatchel. She was a retired seamstress at Jane and Linda's Sportswear in Lebanon and a member of First Baptist Church, Broadway, Danville. She was the widow of Lucian Wheeler.
Survivors include a son, Larry Wheeler of Hustonville; three sisters, Alfie Qualls of Hustonville, Rosie Turpin of Bedford, Ind., and Artie Sheet of Louisville; a brother, Charlie Hatchel of Gravel Switch; and three grandchildren.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Elder Cemetery in Casey County by the Rev. Tim Mathis. Visitation is 10 a.m. Sunday until time of service. [Published May 2, 1997]

Fannie V. Hale
LIBERTY - Fannie Veatrice Hale, 98, Cincinnati, died Wednesday at Galbrath Health Center, Cincinnati.
Born April 16, 1899, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Nanny Cochran Hale. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sisters, Pearl Murphy of Liberty and Audrey Littrell of Cincinnati.
Services will be noon Saturday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Rev. Jim Lynn. Burial will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery.

Lillie E. Padgett
WAYNESBURG - Lillie Ellen Padgett, 79, of Cemetery Road, died Thursday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, Lexington.
Born Aug. 8, 1917, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Natalie Gadberry Haste. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Burlin Padgett; two sons, Ralph E. Padgett and Daryl W. Padgett, both of Waynesburg; four grandchildren; and a step grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home by the Rev. Wiley B. Faw Sr. Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery. [Published May 4, 1997]

William Richards
MORELAND - William ``Billy'' Richards, 74, Hustonville, died Saturday at Columbia Hospital, Lexington.
Born Aug. 10, 1922, in Casey County, he was a son of George T. and Fanny Myrtle Ross Richards. He was a retired farmer and the widow of Helen Marie Trailor Richards.
Survivors include five sons, William E. Richards, James K. Richards, John C. Richards and Howard L. Richards, all of Hustonville, and Edgar H. Richards of Bryantsville; five daughters, Fredia Martin of Stanford, Paula Maddox of Moreland, Connie Green of Junction City, Nancy Clark of Cincinnati, Lois Byrley of Corbin; four brothers, Bradley Richards of Moreland, Raymond Richards of Indianapolis, Coolidge Richards of Windsor and Sherman Richards of Somerset; five sisters, Maude Lobb, Lillian Small, and Mildred Burger, all of Indianapolis, Agnes Fletcher of Nicholasville, and Geneva Murphy of California; 16 grandchildren; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Arthur Selch. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Lucille Morris Gover, 89, South Fourth Street, died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born in Casey County on April 2, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Delia Gibson Morris. She was retired from South Central Bell and was a member of First Baptist Church, Broadway.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Gover of Hustonville; a daughter, Betty Ann Gallager of Lexington; three sisters, Elizabeth Vaught of Danville, Laura Lowe of Ludlow and Fannie Grimm of Canton, Ohio; and a grandson.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. David Smith. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Raymond A. Vannoy
LIBERTY - Raymond A. Vannoy, 59, Cincinnati, formerly of Liberty, died Sunday in Cincinnati of natural causes.
Born Jan. 13, 1938, in Casey County, he was a son of Edythia Wethington Vannoy of Nicholasville and the late Arlie Vannoy.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. Vannoy of Cincinnati; three sisters, Goldie Kincaid of Mason, Ohio, Jolene Patterson of Bethel, Ohio and Norma Rose of Kansas; and four brothers, Dale Vannoy of Corbin, Doyle Vannoy of Forest Park, Ohio, Gerald Vannoy of Nicholasville, and Dean Vannoy of Liberty.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cold Springs Baptist Church by the Revs. Kenneth Blevins and Charlie Taylor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

LIBERTY - Fred Hatfield, 83, of Hwy. 70 West, Liberty, died Friday at the Russell County hospital after a long illness.
Born March 8, 1914, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Sam and Ollie Lawson Hatfield. He was an educator and a farmer. He was a combat veteran of the European Theater, World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Carter Hatfield; one son, Mark Hatfield of Liberty; one brother, Elmer Hatfield of Liberty; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the Revs. Johnny Patton and Darrell Telston. Burial will be in the Casey County Memorial Gardens.

LIBERTY - Ina June Cain, 75, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died there Sunday.
Born Nov. 24, 1921, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary Murphy and the widow of Fred Cain.
Survivors include her son, Michael Cain of Cincinnati; four brothers, William, Mangone, Carl and Larry Murphy; four sisters, Lois and Darlene Murphy, Juanita Jones and Wanda Mason.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Pulaski County.

Harold D. Wilham
LIBERTY - Harold D. Wilham, 61, Ky. 910, died Sunday, at home.
Born June 21, 1935, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Earl and Stella Moran Wilham. He was a custodian for Casey County Board of Education and a member of Bruce's Chapel Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Veola Ellison Wilham; a daughter, Gloria Dean Luttrell, Windsor; two sons, Harold G. Wilham of Russell Springs and Donald Wayne Wilham of Liberty; a brother, Delmer Wilham, Hillsboro, Ohio; two sisters, Retha Davenport of Dunnville and Damaris Bartone of Ohio; eight grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bruce's Chapel Methodist Church. Burial will be in South Fork Cemetery.
Visitation is 6:30-9 p.m. today and noon-3 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Travis Pierce Sr.
LIBERTY - Travis Pierce Sr., 62, Cincinnati, formerly of Liberty, died Sunday in Cincinnati after an illness.
Born Dec. 7, 1934, in Casey County, he was a son of Omer and Mary Roots Pierce, both of Liberty. He was a truck driver.
Other survivors are his wife, Beatrice Garrett Pierce; two sons, Troy Pierce, Milford, Ohio, and Travis Pierce Jr., Loveland, Ohio; two brothers, Carol and Murrell Pierce, both of Louisville; and three grandchildren.
Services were 10 a.m. today at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. Clifford Dehart. Burial was in Salem Cemetery.

Tony Snow
WAYNESBURG - Services for Tony Snow, 81, Stanford, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Barnett and Demrow Funeral Home by the Rev. Victor Gastineau. Burial will be in Angel Ridge Cemetery.
He died Monday at Fort Logan Hospital.
Born Feb. 26, 1916, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Henry and Ida Martin Snow. He was a farmer and a Baptist.
Survivors are a son, Darrell Snow, Cleveland; two daughters, Flossie Gregory, Hustonville, and Wanda Coleman, Stanford; two brothers, Ernest Snow, South Fork, and Carlos Snow, Cleveland; two sisters, Madelle T. Unthank and Josephine Coleman, both of Kings Mountain; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, David and Kenneth Snow, and a daughter, Ula May.

Asa Brown
LIBERTY - Asa Brown, 91, Liberty, died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 23, 1905, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Leni and Nellie Thomas Brown. He was a retired stationary engineer and the widower of Carolyn Carter Brown.
Nieces and nephews survive.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Rev. Greg Powell. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

Florence M. Davis
LANCASTER - Florence Morris Davis, 87, Emerson Drive, Lexington, died Thursday at Christian Health Care Center, Lexington.
Born Dec. 28, 1909, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Mary R. Hicks Morris. She was a retired executive secretary at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and past matron of Henry Clay Chapter of Order of Easter Star and Order of Amaranth Lexington Court 8. She was the widow of Cephas C. Davis.
Survivors are a daughter, Janice A. Dietrich, Lexington; three sons, Lawrence Davis, Moores Hill, Ind., Wayne Davis, Gallopolis, Ohio, and Barry Davis, Lexington; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. Harold Dorsey. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Woody Rhodus, Tommy May, Michael Davis and Joe, Andy and Teri Dietrich. Honorary pallbearers are Vernon, Gene, James, Bryce and Wylie Burton.

Arnold Martin
HARRODSBURG - Services for Arnold Martin, 82, Buster Pike, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert DeFoor. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
He died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born June 27, 1914, in Casey County, he was a son of late Elzia and Louranda Wilham Martin. He was a retired security guard with Eaton Corporation, had served in Kentucky National Guard and was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cornish Martin; a son, Arnold Bruce Martin of Nicholasville; two daughters, Janice Hughes and Donna Martin, both of Lexington; four bothers, Arthur Martin of Mississippi, Cecil Martin of Indiana, and Melvin Martin and Archie Martin, both of Burgin; three sisters, Rosie Leathers of Indianapolis, Ind., Mable Hewitt of Columbus, Ohio, and Mary Ann Goodlet of Lexington; and a granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be members of Glad Hand Sunday School Class, Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

LIBERTY - Bessie R. Lane, 96, of Martinsville, Ind., died Saturday in Martinsville.
Born Oct. 4, 1900, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late George and Betty Lynn Woodrum. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Separate Baptist Church. She was the widow of Oatley Leo Lane.
Survivors include three sons, Clyde, Dewey and Dallas Lane, all of Martinsville; a daughter, Eva Randolph of Mooresville, Ind.; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Calvin, Leo and Melvin Lane; and two daughters, Elizabeth Wheeler and Beatrice Wethington.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Rev. Mike Wilson. Burial will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery.

LIBERTY - Luevernie Gadberry Wesley, 77, of Bethelridge, died Saturday in Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset.
Born March 1, 1920 in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late, Emmit and Deldia Randolph Gadberry. She was a homemaker and a member of Carter Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence Wesley; six daughters, Ethel and Mary Rose Haste, both of Science Hill, Dorothy Terwilliger and LaFern Blevins, both of Bethelridge, Audrey Ball of Frankfort, and Arline Burton of London; seven sons, Estel and Roy D. Wesley, both of Harrodsburg, Vernon Wesley of New Whiteland, Ind., Rufus, Lester and Wayne Wesley, all of Bethelridge, Chester Wesley of Charleston, Ind.; four sisters, Patsy Wesley of Science Hill, Frances Roy of Harrodsburg, Vernell Johnson and Lela McCulluon, both of Fla.; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Ruth Wesley.

LIBERTY - Horace Jeter, 85, of London, died Sunday in Corbin.
Born July 29, 1911, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Robert and Cora Stubbs Jeter. He was a retired district engineer with the state highway department where he worked for 40 years and a member of Middleburg Methodist Church. He was widower of Dora Lee Price Jeter.
Survivors include a daughter, Patty Vanoy of Lubbock, Texas, and three grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. James M. Lynn. Burial will be in Casey County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Hershel Vanoy, Timothy Vanoy, David Godon, Rocky Richards, Randy Richards, and Byron Humphrey.

LIBERTY - Hubert Johnson, 69, of Liberty, died Sunday at Casey County Hospital.
Born May 9, 1928, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Mose and Sarah Allen Johnson. He was a custodian at Casey County Courthouse and the widower of Mildred Absher Johnson.
Survivors include a son, Dennie Johnson of Liberty; six daughters, Anna Wellington and Rose J. Chandler, both of Hamilton, Ohio, Janice Smallwood of Liberty, Judy Wells of Phoenix, Ariz., and Rita Pendleton and Patricia Wilkey, both of Liberty; a brother, John Whited of Liberty; six sisters, Kathleen Randolph of Middleburg, Alice Monday, Linda Atwood, Beulah Langford and Gertie Brown, all of Liberty, and Vergie Walters of Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ira O. Wethington
LIBERTY - Ira O. Wethington, 81, of Red Hill Road, died Monday at Casey County Hospital.
Born March 25, 1916, in Casey County, he was a son of the late James and Mattie Combs Wethington. He was a retired farmer, a Hiram Walker employee and a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Matra Overstreet Wethington; two sons, Marshall Wethington of Monticello and Michael Wethington of Rochelle, Ill.; two daughters, Barbara Wirtjes of Tremont, Ill., and Shirley Welborne of Pekin, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Wethington.
Services will be noon Thursday at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Darren Gillespie. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He died Monday at Christian Health Center, Lexington.
Born Dec. 6, 1945, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Hershel and Gladys Richardson Parton. He was a member of Willow Springs United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Josephine Perkins of Liberty and Maxine Wesley of Lawrenceburg; and two brothers, Jerry and Frankie Parton, both of Liberty.

Shelby Atwood
LIBERTY - Shelby Atwood, 71, of Trammell Street, died Tuesday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
Born Dec. 21, 1925 in Casey County, he was a son of the late Elmer and Pearl Allen Atwood. He was a security guard for Lilly Gate Company and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Carr's Chapel Church of God.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Wethington of Campbellsville and Ginger Paevey of Lexington; three sons, Clint ``Jack'' Atwood, Allen Atwood and Craig Atwood, all of Liberty; a brother, Arthur Atwood of Liberty; five sisters, Shelly Terry, Adell and Myrtle Miller, Sally and Geraldine Salyers; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the Rev. Leonard Streeval. Burial will be in Whited Cemetery.

Roger Smiley Grubbs
LANCASTER - Services for Roger Smiley Grubbs, 80, of Richmond Road, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Bob Rush. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.
He died Wednesday at his home.
Born April 11, 1917, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Eli and Beatrice Smiley Grubbs. He was a partner in the former Walden & Grubbs Construction Company, which became Camp Nelson Stone Company where he was president and general manager until his retirement.
He was a member of Lancaster Baptist Church and served on its board and finance committee. He was a past president of Rotary Club, and served on the Industrial Foundation board. He was a director of First Federal Savings and Loan, was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Wilderness Shrine Club. He was a World War II veteran, having served in China.
Survivors include his wife, Stella Teater Grubbs; two sisters, Helen Moberly of Russellville, and Nora Thompson of Rialto, Calif.; five brothers, Everett Grubbs of Madison, Ind., Earl Grubbs, Herbert Grubbs, and Eugene Grubbs, all of Garrard County, and Sam Grubbs of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Pallbearers will be Bob Ballard, J.D. Ray, Kenny Adams, Lucian Clark, Harold Meadows, Russell Gastineau, Paul East, George Dailey, Earnest Combs, Johnny Laswell, Leroy Peterson, Cecil Lane, and Russell Moberly.

MORELAND - Virginia Lucas Murphy, 90, of Mount Salem, Hustonville, died Saturday at the home of Glen and Della Jefferies.
Born Aug. 28. 1906, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late George and Mina Swope Lucas. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Salem Baptist Church. She was the widow of W.L. Murphy.
Survivors include three brothers, Virgil D. Lucas, Lester B. Lucas and Norman J. Lucas, all of Indianapolis; three sisters, Helen Dunn and Lucille Delk, both of Mount Salem, and Elizabeth Gritton of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Louise Murphy.

Born Jan. 17, 1907, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Mary Martha Austin and Perry Owens. She was a homemaker and a member of West Side Christian Church, Liberty.
She was the widow of Clay Atwood. She was preceded in death by a son, J.C. Atwood; and three daughters, Irene Powell, Fredia Black Santee, and Julie Thompson.
Survivors include four sons, Junior Atwood and Gerald Atwood, both of Cincinnati, Bobby Atwood of Franklin, Ind., and Roy Atwood of Richmond; four daughters, Marie Reeves of Franklin, Kathleen Shanklin of Liberty, and Joyce Roberts and Diane Helm, both of Jamestown; two sisters, Bessie Terry of Mitchell, Ind., and Fannie Jeffries of Cincinnati; 38 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren.
