LIBERTY - Gertrude Buck, 69, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday at Ephraim
McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 27, 1928, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late
Albert and Ida M. Lynn Rogers. She was a homemaker and a member of Dry
Branch Baptist Church. She was the widow of James Buck.
Survivors include four sons, Eddie, Holland, Jackie and Timmy Buck, all
of Harrodsburg; three daughters, Vera Colvin and Brenda Boswell, both of
Harrodsburg, and Retha Sandlin of Richmond; a granddaughter whom she
raised; Tammy Bandy of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Retha Baker of
Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Maudie Johnson of Aurora, Ind.; 16
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Rev.

LORETTO - James Levi Hardin Coyle, 86, of Loretto, formerly of Gravel
Switch, died Friday at Federal Hill Nursing Home, Bardstown.
Born June 2, 1911, in Casey County, he was a son of the late J.T. and
Grace Pipes Coyle. He was the widower of Pearlie Hafley Coyle. He was a
retired carpenter and farmer.
Survivors include a daughter, Bertha Blakeman of Richmond; two sons,
James Thomas Coyle of Loretto and Paul Hardin Coyle of Lancaster; a
sister, Hazel Southerland of Paris; two brothers, Estill Coyle of Des
Plaines, Ill. and Clarence Coyle of Harrodsburg; 10 grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mattingly Funeral Home by the Rev.
John Bare. Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at Bluegrass Memorial

MORELAND - Ethel Evelyn Ellis, 87, of Hustonville, died Saturday at
Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 23, 1910, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late A.M.
and Artelia Smith Simpson. She was a retired licensed practical nurse of
Kentucky State Hospital where she was employed for 35 years, and a
member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of Willie Lee
Ellis.
Survivors include three daughters, Louise Wright of Charlestown, Ind.;
Shearleen Green of Danville and Linda Austin of Liberty; four sons,
Kenneth Ellis of Hustonville, Eugene Ellis, Leon Ellis and Horace Ellis,
all of Danville; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by two sons, Jerome and Jasper Ellis.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the

Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Anderson of Liberty, Mayrene Tucker of Dunnville and Della Bailey of
Russell Springs; a son, Eldon Passmore of Dunnville; three brothers,

of Dunnville; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

James W. Spaulding
OWENSBORO - James Edwin Spaulding, 65, died at Owensboro-Mercy Health
System after a long illness.
Born Aug. 20, 1932, in Casey County, he was a son of Thomas A. and Agnes
Mullins Spaulding. He was a retired director of the Davies-McLean
Baptist Association, a graduate of Hustonville High School and served in
the Armed Forces. He was pastor of several Baptist churches in Kentucky
and served as a missionary in the Bahama Islands, Trinidad, Scotland and
Germany.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Bogie Spaulding; two sons, Timothy
Spaulding of Louisville and Micah Spaulding of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter,
Linda Roberts of Lewisport; a brother, Thomas Spaulding Jr., of
Hustonville; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hustonville Cemetery.

MORELAND - Harold Glen Richards, 57, of Indianapolis, Ind., died Friday
at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Jan. 11, 1941, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Willie
and Dorothy Snow Richards. He was a veteran of the Korean War and
retired after 30 years with General Motors in Indianapolis.

Born Dec. 11, 1916, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Clarence
and Sally Turpin. He was a a retired pharmacist and an Army veteran of
World War II. He was a graduate of University of Kentucky School of
Pharmacy and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Hoskins Turpin; two stepsons,
William Alan Land of Louisville and Michael E. Land of Lexington; and a
brother, Eugene Turpin of Dallas, Texas.

LIBERTY - William Hafford Emerson, 85, of Liberty died Sunday at Ephraim
McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 20, 1912, in Casey County, he was a son of the late George
and Jennie Monday Emerson. He was a retired employee of General Electric
Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Cowden Chapel Church.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Bell Downs Emerson; a son, Donnie
Emerson of Cincinnati; three stepsons, Shirley, Garland, and Lonnie
Denson, all of Liberty; three stepdaughters, Lucille Byrd of Liberty,
Geraldine Meeks of Maryland and Anita Wesley of Danville; two brothers,
Vitis Emerson of Florida, and Kermit Emerson of Indiana; six sisters,
Ruth Bryant, Chloe Lay, Gladys Wilson and Hazel Sharp, all of Liberty,
Ruby Bristow of Ohio, and Syrilla Taylor of Moreland; 17 grandchildren;
15 step grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

LIBERTY - Mary Allean Grider, 72, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Liberty,
died Sunday in Louisville.
Born Jan. 31, 1926, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late
Jacob and Della Taylor Byrd. She was a homemaker and the widow of Marvin
Grider.
Survivors include a son, Tommy Dowell of Harrodsburg; three sisters,
Thelma Lester and Patsy Schoeble, both of Harrodsburg, and Letrica Lane
of Liberty; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Nora May Peck Price, 99, of Cincinnati, died Sunday.
Born Nov. 16, 1898, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Buck Peck. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Walter Price of Cincinnati; four daughters,
Alma Allen and Margie Mullins, both of Mason, Ohio, Lena Caudill of
Fairfield, Ohio, and Carol Trischler of West Chester, Ohio; 42
grandchildren; and several great and great-great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by three sons, John, Charles and James Price.

Luther ``Bunk'' V. Simpson, 74, of North Fourth Street, died Thursday at
home.
Born May 6, 1923, in Casey County, he was a son of the late John W. and
Minnie Smith Simpson. He was a retired plumber, a member of Maxey's
Valley Church of God and Kentucky Long Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife, Dolly Simpson; two daughters, Linda Sargent
of Parksville and Debbie Mills of Danville; a sister, Eva M. Lane of
Hustonville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

LIBERTY - Phyllis Mae Burke, 48, of Hwy. 206, died Saturday at Ephraim
McDowell Regional Medical Center of natural causes.
Born Dec. 24, 1949, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late
Clyde and Edith Richards Helm. She was secretary and owner of Crockett
Trail Market, and a member of Rheber Nazarene Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Burke; a son, Junior Burke of
Liberty; a daughter, Kelly Burke of Liberty; six brothers, Donald,
Ronald, Gerald, Verl and Roger Helm, all of Liberty, and Burl Helm of
Marion, Ind.; six sisters, Geneva Bell of Liberty, Ann Allen of

LIBERTY - Ewell Stevenson Wyatt, 50, died Friday in Nevada of injuries
sustained in an auto accident.
Born Nov. 20, 1947, in Casey County, he was a son of Lena Mills Wyatt of
Liberty and the late Wayne Wyatt. He was an agriculture manufacturer,
mostly of farm gates.
Survivors include a daughter, Tonya L. Wyatt of Cincinnati, Ohio; four
brothers, Glen and Earl Wyatt, both of Liberty, Gene Wyatt of Chicago,
Ill., and J.B. Wyatt of Longwood, Fla.; five sisters, Betty Burton, Ines
Goforth and Lavonia Helm, all of Cincinnati, Loretta Emerson of

LIBERTY - Willie C. Youngman, 85, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Casey
County, died Tuesday in Birmingham.
Born Nov. 3, 1912, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late
Nathan and Patricia Butcher Coffey. She was a retired secretary for Fox
Paper Company, Cincinnati, and the widow of Estil Sam Youngman. She was
a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Russell Wright
LIBERTY - Russell Wright, 56, of Lebanon Road, a local businessman, died
Monday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, Lexington from
injuries suffered Saturday in a mowing accident at his residence.
The accident occurred at 10:45 a.m. EDT Saturday at Wright's residence
inside the limits of Liberty. He died as a result of an anoxic brain
injury, according to a report issued by the Fayette County Coroner's
office.
``Probably what happened, the grass was a little bit slick,'' said
Deputy Sheriff Garnett Sweeney. ``He just slipped over into the ditch
and the lawnmower fell on him.''
He was co-owner of Wright Implement Co., and attended Highway 49
Holiness Church.
Born July 11, 1941, in Casey County, he was a son of Lennie Sapp Wright
of Liberty and the late John W. Wright.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Adams Wright; a son, Keith Wright of
Liberty; a daughter, Karen Ellison of Liberty; a brother, Ronald Wright
of Liberty; three sisters, Juanita Delp and Deborah Wesley, both of
Liberty, and Verona Atwood of Mount Washington; four grandchildren; and
a step granddaughter.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by the
Revs. Bill Rose and Phillip Smallwood. Burial will be in Caney Fork
Cemetery.

MORELAND - George W. Pemberton, 94, of Sabina, Ohio, died Friday at
Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Ohio.

Wilson Pemberton and the widower of Clydia Pemberton. He was a warehouse
worker
for Colonial Store in Cincinnati, and a member of Poplar Grove Baptist
Church.
Survivors include two sons, Carl Pemberton of Rising Sun, Ind., and
Joseph Pemberton of Phoenix, Ariz; a daughter, Leila Christman of
Phoenix; a sister, Frances
Graham of Hustonville; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and

Elmer Elliott
Elmer A. Elliott, 85, of Lyons Court, Hustonville, a former postmaster
and city councilman at Hustonville, died Tuesday at
Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical
Center.
Elliott was postmaster from 1956 to 1979 at the Hustonville Post Office.
He also was a farmer. He also was a school teacher and administrator for
18 years in
Casey and Lincoln counties. He began teaching in a one-room school at
Mount Olive, was principal at Moreland Elementary, and ended his career
at Hustonville
High School.
He served two terms from 1980-84 as a member of the Hustonville City
Council. A military veteran, he served four years in the Navy.
A Casey County native, Elliott grew up in the Mount Olive community. He
also was an agricultural instructor for veterans under the supervision
of the University of
Kentucky faculty. He taught veterans about farming and keeping accurate
records of farm programs.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Elliott, and one son, Michael Elliott
of Harrodsburg.

LIBERTY - Gale Delano Meeks, 52, of Bardstown, died Monday at home.
Born April 27, 1946, in Casey County, he was a son of Ollie Strong Meeks
of Bardstown and the late Velber Meeks. He was a former truck driver and

widower of Linda Richardson Meeks.

Harrodsburg,
where he worked for 10 years, and was a former 13 year employee of ATR
maintenance department. He was a member of Moreland First Baptist
Church, and
Hustonville Lodge 184. He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Carey Southerland; two sons, Randy
Southerland of Moreland and Keith Southerland of Stanford; a daughter,

Hustonville; three brothers, Robert Southerland of Stanford, Buddy
