Joseph Bell was high sheriff of Casey County two terms from 1865 to '69. The terms were two years at that time. Robert Bell & Melissa Rich and to this union were born: Henry & Celeste Lee (children: Luther and Kathaleen); welby; Jesse & Dora Patton (children: Claude, Clyde, Allan Homer, Nomer, Clara, Sarah, Melissa, and Mattie). The other children of Robert were: Nannie, Liza, Ida, and Sarah.
