Naming the Forgotten -
The Eastern State Hospital Project
Naming the Forgotten, a special project within the KyGenWeb, is
working to gather the names of those who lived and died at
Eastern State Hospital, formerly the Eastern State Lunatic
Asylum, prior to 1956. It is suspected that the hospital
cemetery may hold as many as 10,000 unmarked graves. The
projects goal is to identify those who are buried in the
hospital cemetery and the numerous others who died while in the
hospital. Before the registration of deaths in 1911, records
pertaining patients are extremely hard to find. Anyone with
information to assist in this endeavor please contact
Mary Hatton.
