Morton, Indiana July 23,1863; Transferred to Camp Douglas, Illinois August
19, 1963; Transferred to Point Lookout,Maryland February 12, 1865 Complexion:
Fair; Hair: Gray; Eyes: Hazel; Height: 5'11" Residence: Clark County,
Kentucky
E.G. Baxter - of Clark County, Kentucky, is recorded as enlisting in
Company A, 7th Kentucky Cavalry in June, 1862,when he was not quite thirteen
(birth date: September 10, 1849), and a year later was a second lieutenant.
John Thomas Jones - enlistment, Prestonsburg, KY 10/21/1861
He served with Ezekiel F. Clay for 12 months -Company C, 1st Battalion Mounted Rifles and then with John Hunt Morgan of Morgan's Men fame until the surrender at Lexington in March of 1865. John was wounded in his left arm at Cynthiana on the last raid in Kentucky.
It appears that the Company C which is on his tombstone is what he remained with even though the commanders changed.
