Our family's first known ancestor to
reside in Clark Co., KY, was Rene LaForce
(aka) Raney, Rainey, Randolph, Randle, etc.
and Leforce). He was the son of Rene
and Agnes Moseby LaForce.
They were a
Virginia family who moved to KY ("western
frontier of Virginia") during the Revolutionary
War and settled near Martin's Station and Ruddle's
Fort where many family members were captured and
taken as prisoners of war. Rene, of Clark Co.,
was not in KY at that time, as he was in the
militia of Botetourt Co., VA. He married
Agnes/Ann Robinson in Botetourt Co. in 1774;
she was the sister of "Colonel's" David and
William Robinson (Roberson/Robertson) who came
to America from Ireland.
Rene received a land grant in Fayette Co.,
KY and shows up in that county as early as 1785.
By 1792, he is on the Clark County tax list. (His
land was on Boone's Creek.) He appears to have
had a second family by 1797 when he made a gift
deed to the children in this second family. He
is considered to have moved out of Clark county by
1798.
His first family with Agnes Robinson LaForce
was as follows: William, David Rene, Robinson,
Reynolds/Rene/Raney, Mary "Polly" (and maybe a
Jean who married Mr. Marshall). William (who
married Jane Watson) and Mary Polly (see Duvall
Family History) remained and resided in Clark
County at the time of their deaths.
