1823 Deed - Nicholas Merrill to Andrew Merrill (Deed Book
19 Page 274; Clark Co., Kentucky)
This indenture made and entered into this 1st day of August 1823 between
Nicholas Merrill of the one part and Andrew Merrill of the other and both of the
County of Clarke and State of Kentucky witnesseth that the said Nicholas Merrill
has in the consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to him in hand paid
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hat bargained and sold and doth by
these presents grant bargain sell and convey unto the said Andrew Merrill his
assigns & forever a certain tract or parcel of land containing by survey one
hundred acres be the same more or less lying on the Lulbegrud Creek being in the
county aforesaid on Lulbegrud Creek of a 33.000 acre survey ___ in the name of
Richard Grayham and bounded as follows to wit Beginning at the intersection of
Austein and Boman lines
thence running South80 East80 po to two little oak trees
thence North 10 West 12 po to two hickories
thence N85 East65 po to an ironwood & hickory on the bank of Lulbegrud Creek
thence down same 180 po to a popular & white oak
thence S65 W109 po to a white oak & walnut
thence N25 W175 po to the beginning -
with this special reserve of all that's part of said survey now enclosed by al
post and rail fence around Log Lick Meeting House to have and hold the before
described tract of land with all the free hold appurtenances whereto
appertaining to the only proper use and benefits of the said Andrew Merrill his
heirs & forever & the said Nicholas Merrill doth bind himself his heirs forever
provided always that should the land hereby conveyed be taken by a better claim
in that case the said Nicholas Merrill is to refund the purchase money without
interest In witnesseth where of the said Nicholas Merrill have set his hand &
faffix his seal the day and year above written

Nicholas Merrill to Andrew Merrill was produced before me James P Bullock Clerk
of the Court for the count aforesaid and acknowledged by the said Nicholas

1823 Deed Andrew Merrill
to James Lowrey (Deed Book 19 Page 273; Clark Co., Kentucky)
This indenture made and entered into this 1st day of August 1823 between Andrew
Merrill of the one part and James Lowrey of the other and both of the same
county of Clarke and State of Kentucky witnesseth that the said Andrew Merrill
hath in consideration of the sum of sixty dollars to him in hand paid the
receipt whreof is hereby acknowledged ___ bargained and sold and by theses
presents doth grant bargain sell and confirm unto said James Lowrey his heirs
and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land containing by survey
thirty three acres lying and being in the County aforesaid on Lulbegrud Creek
being a part of a 100 acre survey said Andrew Merrill purchased from Nicholas
Merrill & bounded as follows to writ Beginning at a white oak and popular on the
west bank lulbegrud
thence South65 W109 po to a white oak and walnut
thence N25 W47 po to al stone corner
thence N53 E80 po to a ___ tree on the bank of Lulbegrud
thence around the ___70 po the beginning -
to have and to hold the above descrive land with all the free hold appurtenances
thereto appertaining to the only proper ___ f& receipt of the said James Lowrey
his heirs & forever and the said Andrew Merrill doth bind himself to warrant and
defend the title of said land against himself his heirs & provided always that
should the land herebvy conveyed be taken by a better claim in that case the
said Andrew Merrill is to refund the purchase money without interest In
witnesseth where of the said Andrew Merrill have set his hand and affix & seal
the day & date above written

1835 Deed: Andrew Merrill to James
Lowrey (Deed Book 27 Page 67)
This indenture made this 10th day of April 1835 between Andrew Merrill of one
part and James Lowry of the other part and both of Clark County and State of
Kentucky witnesseth that the said Andrew for and in consideration of of the sum
of one dollar to him in hand paid by the said James to and before the sealing
these present the receipt is hereby acknowledged and for the further
consideration of the natural love and affection which said Andrew for said James
who is the husband of Jane Lowry formerly Jane Merrill who is the daughter of
said Andrew hath given granted bargained and sold and by these present doth give
grant bargain sell and convey to the said James Lowry to have to hold to him and
his heirs forever in fee simple a certain tract of land lying in the county
aforesaid on the water of Lulbegrud (sp) and containing sixty six acres more or
less and bounded on all around by the land of said James Lowry on the south by
Lulbegrud creek on the north by the road leading from Winchester to Irvine and
the said Andrew doth hereby retain to himself a life estate in said land to
continue for to continue for and during the natural life of said Andrew and the
interest of the said James in said land is not to vest in possession in said
James until the death of said Andrew and the said Andrew doth hereby on behalf
of himself and his heirs forever warrant and defend said land to James against
all persons claiming under said Andrew by against no other claim whatever in
testimony whereof the said Andrew hath herewith set his hand and affixed his
seal on the and year forth above written and the said James Lowry doth hand
himself to pay Andrew Merrill Junior $50.00 at the death of his grandfather
Andrew Merrill Senior the son of William.

Merrill to James Lowry was this day produced to me in my office and proved

subscribed wherefrom said deed together with the foregoing certificate hat been
duly admitted to record in my office given under y hand this 5th day of May
1835.

INDENTURE - Nicholas Merrill to John Bruner, 13 October
1800
This indenture witnesseth that Nicholas Merrell son of Andrew Merrill in the
County of Clarke and state of Ky hath put himself and by these presents doth
voluntarily put himself apprentice to John Bruner to learn his art trate or
industry and after the manner of an apprenticed to serve him from this day of
the date hereof for and during the full term of two years and six months next
ensuing during which time he the apprentice his said master shall faithfully
serve his secrets keep his lawfull commands every ___ gladly obey he shall do no
damage to his said master nor see it to be done by others without letting or
giving notice thereof to his said master he shall not waste his said Masters
goods lent them unlawfully to others he shall not commit fornication nor
contract matrimony within the said term, at cards, Dice, nor any unlawful game
he shall not play whereby his said master may be damaged with his own goods or
the goods of others during the said said term without licence of his said
master, he shall neither buy nor sell not___ him self Self day nor neight from
his said masters service without his leave nor hunt alehouses Taverns or play
houses but in all things behave himself a a faith full apprentice ought to do
during the said term and the said master shall use the utmost of Endavours to
instruct the said apprentice in the trade and mystory he noes. ___ ___ or
followeth and procure or provide for him the said Apprentice sufficient meate
drink washing & Lodging & clothing fitting for an apprentice and said Master is
also to let the said Tan at raits of twenty skins per year & at expiration of
of the time he is to give the Apprentice a freedom ___ and what the law allows
during the said term and for the true Performance of all and ___ the said
Covenant and agreements Either of the said Parties Give themselves unto the
other by theas presents I Witnesseth whereof theay have entered changeably ___
And seal this 13 day of October one thousand eight hundred

Bruner parties thereto to be their act & deed and the ratification thereunder
written by Andrew Merrill the father of the said Nicholas was acknowledged by
him the said Andrew Whereupon a copy of the same is admitted to record
