I am looking for Richard Lee's parents. Richard was born in 1806 and died 1880-1890 in Clinton Co., Ky. He married a Lydia (think from Tn.) They lived in Albany, Ky and had a son Joseph Vance Lee. Lydia died and Richard married Elizabeth Cross (Think in 1854/5). They had three children. -- Two lived to adulthood. Joseph Vance married Elizabeth Campbell. They lived in Albany Clinton, Ky and had a number of children. Joseph V. And family moved to OK. I think some of his children remained in Albany. I need a paper trail to Richard's parents.

Thank you, Daysie Robertson

I'm trying to find some information about the ancestry of a Cornelius Thomas. Here's the info I have about him: "Cornelius Thomas was born in Virginia August 12, 1813, and was reared in Cumberland and Clinton Counties, Kentucky, where his parents lived during his childhood. Cornelius Thomas was married to Sarah Neathery, who was born in Clinton County, Kentucky, November 23, 1823." (I have info on the ancestry of Sarah Neathery.)

He moved to Henry County, MO in 1844, where he lived for the rest of his life. I wonder if you might have any records on him, specifically relating to where I might find his precise place of birth (other than simply "Virginia") or the names of his parents. If not, do you have any other info on people with the surname Thomas who lived in the area ca. 1820-1850?

Thanks Sam Glidden (9/25/11)

I’m looking for a Philbert Wright, who died in Clinton County, KY bet 1850-1860 (not in that census). As close as has been determined by other researchers, more closely would be a date around 1858.

Not much is known.
• originally from Randolph County, NC
• married Ann Yates Jiles there in 1801
• moved to Cumberland County, Ky abt 1810
• Ann died abt 1835
• Philbert moved to Clinton County and is there in the 1840 and 1850 census
• Owned property each place he went;
• Thought that a ‘Judith Burchett’ was heir to last property in Clinton County. She was not a wife, daughter or other relative, possibly housekeeper/caretaker in his later years.
• Home in 1850 was District 1, Clinton, Kentucky
• Not in 1860, presumed to have died, as he would have been 81, abt 1858.

Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Shirley Varker Gragg (11/29/09)

I am searching for the possible burial place of my GGGrandfather, Lewis Brownloe Beck (1828-1912). His wife was Sarah D. (Prather) Beck (1836-1877).  My records show he was born in Wayne county, Kentucky and died in Clinton, Kentucky.
His father, Aaron Beck (1793-1868) is also listed as dying in Clinton, Kentucky along with his mom Sarah Matilda (McFarland) Beck (1794-1879).

Thanks for any help you can give. Mike Beck (6/6/09)

Since I sent the first email, I have found more information. There were two Lewis Becks, one just Lewis Beck and one Lewis Brownloe Beck They both show in records of Clinton County with nearly the same locations and age. I have learned my GGGrandfather was the Lewis Beck and will probably show that his death was in Texas. The marriage to Sarah Prather is correct.

This may eliminate any death records for Clinton County however, any info that does appear would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Mike Beck (6/7/09)

I am looking for the parents of Levi Barber who came to Clinton Co. about 1829 from North Carolina. He was my 3rd great great grandfather. I've been told they have been from Conn. but am not sure. I'd appreciate anything that can be confirmed.

Thanks! Steve Thomas (2/14/09)

I am looking to find the Carringers that came to Clinton Co. from North Carolina about 1845. They were listed in the 1850 census records as the following:

331/331 John Carringer 50 M Farmer 200 North Carolina
Matilda 34 F North Carolina
Manerva J. 22 F Tennessee (My Great Great Grandmother)
Amos W. 20 M Tennessee
Elizabeth A 18 F Tennessee
Sarah A. 6 F Tennessee
Matilda A. 5 F Kentucky
Pleasant C. 2/12 M Kentucky (would assume this bacame Calvin in the next census.)

They were listed in the 1860 Census records as the following page 30:

212/212 John Carringer 53 M Farmer 800 250 North Carolina
Matilda 53 F Housework North Carolina
Sarah A. 16 F Domestic Tennessee
Adaline 12 F Kentucky
Calvin 10 M Kentucky
Pinkney 8 M Kentucky

By 1860 my Manerva had married and moved to Cumberland Co, KY. She married John Neal. The thing is where did he come from and where did Manerva's Carringer family go to after 1860?

I have hit a brick wall as to where my Neal family came from. Census of Cumberland Co. says he was born in Tennessee. As does the census of 1870. He died before the next census as Manerva is listed as head of household after that.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this family and where the Neals came from. I would assume John Neal and Manerva were married in your county sometime after 1850 and before first child was born in 1853. It lists that first child as having been born in Tennessee. Their thrid daughter was 3 by 1860 and was born Kentucky so they moved into Kentucky into Cumberland Co. in or around 1856 or so.

Thanks!

I am searching for the parents of Davidson Jones, b. 1766 in VA, died Clinton Co in 1850. His spouse was Sarah Boring. They had children Roland, Abram, Margaret, James, Wilson, Johnson b. 1807 TN (my great-great-grandfather), Fleming, Anderson, Judy, Rebecca, Nancy, George, Jonathan, Bartley, Cyntha, and Susannah. These Joneses all lived out their lives in Clinton, KY, and Overton, Pickett and Morgan, TN counties. I first thought Joshua Jones b. 1739, d. 1816 Monticello, Wayne Co, was his father, but Davidson would have been born 1 year before Joshua married Hannah. Any help would be appreciated. I live near Tulsa, OK.   Thank you, Larry Briggs   (9/15/08)

My great-grandfather was Ambrose B. Holsapple, married to Louise Gaskin. They were married in Albany in 1894, possibly the same year their second daughter, Corinne, my grandmother, was born, although she may have been born as early as 1892. I can't find them in any 1900 census, but in the 1910 census only the two youngest brothers, Peter and Fred, were at home with their parents. Although I have never been able to find proof, my assumption has been that she was married by 1910, because in that year, her first son, John Rudolph York, was born, the son of Joseph York, a local man. John's army papers give "Lincoln, Kentucky" as his birthplace. I assume that should be "Lincoln Co., KY." But, there again, I could find nothing by way of marriage or birth documents. In 1913, my grandmother appears in Chicago where she married my grandfather in April of that year.

The questions are: What was happening to my grandmother between 1894 and 1910? Where was she married, if she was married, to Joseph York? Where in Kentucky was John R. York born? Why and when did she leave Kentucky for Chicago? These are the questions that got me started with genealogy eight years ago, and I still have no answer. Thank you, Patrick McCann   (3/11/2005)

GEORGE JOHN WILKERSON, son of William and Ann Wilkerson, was born August 11, 1832 in Little Shelford, Cambridgeshire, England. He was living in Horse Shoe Bottoms , Ky April 07, 1891. He signed a pension petition for his mother-in-law. George married TIRIECE EMALINE ALLEN, a daughter of HENRY ALLEN and NANCY JONES, August 10, 1855 in Clinton County, KY. Tiriece was born 1838 in Tennessee. She was living at Clyde, Ky in 1892. Tiriece's mother, Nancy Jones Allen died in Wayne County January 1, 1901 and is buried at Mt. Hope, Wayne County, KY.

My brickwall: I am unable to find an obituary, tombstone, deathdate and/or place for either George or Tiriece. I would appreciate any help! I hope to go to press with my book, MY WILKERSON FAMILY- From England to Texas by mid-2005. Thanks- Marie Wilkerson Dyess  (3/1/2005)

I'm looking for any information on a Stephen Cotton who was married to a lady named Judea. I believe her last name was Pitman. They had children Starling, Eliza and Tolbert. I found them in a 1860 census with the children. I do know that a few years later Stephan remarries and her name is Elizabeth Wilson, but I do not know when Judea and Stephen divorced. Stephen and Elizabeth Cotton are my gggrandparents. Any information on the Cotton family would be a great help in my research. Thank you, Nora Jones   (1/23/2005)

Palmer Smith married Matilda Hays on 27 Jan 1859 in (Clinton), KY. They were the parents of Peter Simon, Martha, Rebecca J, Mahala and Isekiah Smith. This was Palmer Smith second marriage. I have found Peter and Isekiah families but nothing on Martha, Rebecca and Mahala. Martha was born abt 1864, Rebecca about 1867 and Mahala abt 1870 all in (Clinton), KY. Palmer and Matilda both died in (Clinton), KY or at least we think so. Never have found there graves.
Sure would like to find info on the three girls. I had no luck at the library. Jim Smith   (1/23/2005)

I have been searching for my brick wall for over 15 years. Susan Westmoreland b. September 1876 in Tennessee. She was my great grandmother. My grandmother, Noma Emaline Brown b. 2/10/1901 in Clinton Co. Kentucky, told me that Susan was from Pickett Co. Tennessee. I have found no trace of her in Pickett Co. Tennessee. Susan married Eli Parker Brown b. October 1868 in KY. (Probably Clinton Co). They were married April 3, 1896 in Albany, Clinton Co. KY. I have a copy of their marriage bond but on the application they did not list their parents names, it is blank. Eli Brown, sometimes went by Parker Brown, he was the son of Moses Brown b. 1835 and Mary "Polly" Agee b. 1840 both born in Clinton Co. KY.

I found Susan Westmoreland in an 1880 Fentress Co. TN. census, she was 4 years old, living with the family of Craton Wright. She was with a woman named Jane Westmoreland age 37 and widowed. Jane was listed as Craton's niece. Susan was not listed as any kin but I think she may have been Jane's daughter. So, I feel that there is a strong possibility that Susan is related to the Wright family. I just haven't found anything to prove this. Who was Jane's husband? Who was Jane before she married a Westmoreland? I am totally clueless. I really needed a 1890 census because the next time I find Susan she was already married to my great grandfather in 1900 Clinton Co. KY. census. So there was no hope of finding her with her parents.

My granny told me that her mother died when she was 6 years old, so this would have been about 1907. I don't know what she died of or where she is buried. I have been to Clinton Co. KY. several times and searched cemeteries, the library and courthouse to no avail.

I am desperately searching for any information on Susan Westmoreland that anyone is willing to share with me.
Thank you all so much, and good luck in all your searches. Christine Penwell   (1/24/2005)

I have been searching for "any info" on my ggg'grandfather what seems forever. Todate, we family members cannot find any of the following information:

NATHAN JARRETT CASH (b. 1801 VA) came into Cumberland Cty in 1811. He was the father of 4 children. Todate, I do not know their mothers name. Latter in life, he married MARGARET (Peggy) COOKSEY who was 20 years younger than Nathan. Do not know what happened to her? NATHAN came to Barren Cty at the age of 90, lived with his grandaughter & is buried in Barren Cty. Nathan was the father of my gg'PHILLIP S. CASH (b.1832 Cumberland Cty) died as a prisioner of war & is buried at the Andersonville Cemetery, Andersonville, Ga. He was married to SOPHIA COOKSEY. Todate, I cannot find where she is buried? I am searching for NATHAN's parents & the name of the mother of his 4 children. Maybe some of the CASH families in Clinton Cty can give me a lead.
Thanks so much, Ginny Elliott-Moon   (1/24/2005)

Jacob RICH came to Clinton County after 1833 from Fentress County, Tennessee. He and his family are enumerated on census schedules for the years 1840, 1850, 1860, and 1870. The 1870 census schedule enumerates the family as: Jacob Rich, 74, NC; Dorcas, 71, Tennessee; Martha E., 26, Kentucky; Susannah BEAN, 13, Kentucky. Albany Post Office. What became of this family is my brick wall.

I believe Susannah to be the daughter of Catherine BEAN, my great great grandmother. Susannah might be the niece of Jacob and Dorcas RICH.

Thank you in advance for any leads. Patricia Schofield (1/27/2005)
