Davis Chapel United Methodist Church is located off of Hwy. 90 in Alpha, Kentucky near the Clinton and Wayne County line. The Church was organized in the 1800's, by Rev. Abalson Davis. The Church is currently occupying its fourth building. The first building was made of logs and was in use until 1916, when it was replaced with a new frame structured building. the second Building was used for only 7 years until it was destroyed by fire. The third building was soon built and was used until May 2, 1949. On the Sunday night of May 2, 1949, a tornado destroyed the church building while services were being held. Rev. Charles Hulse was the pastor at the time of the tornado. There were around 150 people in the building when the tornado hit. Several people were injured and the building was totally destroyed. a few of the people who were in the building when it was destroyed by the tornado, still attend Davis Chapel U.M.C., and they still have many memories of this tragic night. The fourth building was built in 1949 and is still in use today. The Church has many different activities and outreach ministries, such as Sunday School, a very active Youth Group, and a very special music ministry. The church has always been a lighthouse for the community. It is a place where you can come and worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and leave feeling spiritually uplifted. Everyone is invited to come worship with them. |
