In the matter of the claim for Pension of Sarah Brown widow of Eli Brown, Private Co. H 13 Kentucky Cavalry Volunteers, personally appeared before me, a Deputy Clerk of the Clinton County Court. J. V. H. Petty aged 56 years, a resident of the County and State aforesaid, whom I certify to be reputable and entitled to credit and who after being by me duly sworn, deposes and states in relation to said case as follows: I lived a year or more a near neighbor to said Eli Brown immediately prior to his death. I visited him often during his last illness and helped to nurse him. I saw that he had a very bad cough and I believe that he had a lung disease, that the same caused his death. I never heard him complain of any other disease. I saw him a few hours before he died and I saw his corpse soon after his death and I helped to bury him. I am not related to claimant. I have no interest in this claim. My post office address is Seventy Six, Clinton County, Kentucky. According to my recollection said soldier died on or about the 24th day of May 1869.
