Highway 259, Sweeden, KY This page is the Complete Sweeden Baptist Church Cemetery Transcription that was recorded by Janice Miller in 1999 and early 2000. Janice has done a remarkable job with the full transcription which lists each marker, in order, by row. You can search this page using the search features of your browser, or you can peruse the Full name and date index. In memory of the Erlandson's. Carl A. Erlandson was born in Skara, Sweeden in 1842. His wife Britta C. was born in Talla, Sweeden in 1848. They migrated to America, arriving in 1869. Here they were married in 1878, and lived in Lemont, Illinois. While there a son John Oscar was born in 1881, and a daughter Emma M. in 1883. The Earldson's heard about this community, and the elder Earldson bought a plot of land in Edmonson County, Kentucky in 1884. Without having seen the land they moved here and called it the New Sweeden after their native land. Here Ida C. was born in 1886. They built a log house in which they lived until their death. Being Christians the Earldson's desired to worship God. They were the leaders in organizing a Sunday School which met in the Community school house. Intrest increased, and soon a church was organized in 1897. It was named Sweeden Missionary Babtist Church. Later the Earldson's donated some land to the church. The church grew, and has been a blessing. The family now rests in the church cemetery, but their works live on. |
