TRANSCRIPTION OF LETTER TO JOHN ROWAN McAHAN OF
MORGAN COUNTY, ILLINOIS,
FROM J. W. MUIR OF BARDSTOWN, NELSON COUNTY,
KENTUCKY, 17 JULY 1865

Dear Sir I have been appointed by our Nelson Circuit
Court your attorney to correspond with and defend
for you in a suit brought by Martin Auds Executor
against you and others Martin Aud was Executor of
Thomas Aud your grandfather under whose will he
qualified to execute the following provision.
“I also appoint Martin H. Aud Guardian for Rosella
Mcahron’s children viz Wm Tyler, John R, Ann C,
Emeline and Anselem Mcahron provided their mother
never becomes sane. If she does become sane she is
to receive her equal share with the rest of my
children.”
Now Martin H. Aud being dead this whole matter has
to be settled. Your mother is hopelessly insane. The
law makes it my duty to correspond with you. I shall
draw your answer & defend for you give me your age &
the age of the other children

RARDIN'S NOTE: J. W. Muir was a relative of Peter
Brown Muir who first lived and practiced law in
Bardstown, then in Louisville. P. B. Muir was
married to Margaret Sophronia Rizer, the daughter of
Elizabeth McAchron and Jacob Rizer. Elizabeth
McAchron was the daughter of John Mcachron and
Rosannah Hahn. John Mcachron was a brother of Felix
McAhron’s father.
