  HISTORY OF THOMAS JEFFERSON MUSICK

Submitted by Freserick Dean Stykes Thomas was a son of Ephriam Musick. Ephriam was born 1798 in Washington County, VA, he died 12-15-1858 in Johnson County, Kentucky.  He married Elizabeth Blackburn, She was born around 1802 and death date is unkwnown. According to the U.S. Census Records, Ephriam was in Washington Co., VA in 1820, 1830 and 1840 and in Johnson Co., Kentucky in 1850. The 1850 Census shows Thomas as being 15 years old. Based on this information he was born in 1835. Thomas married frist Elizabeth Manning in Morgan Co., Kentucky on 5-22-1856. They had three children, Rebecca J. Music, born in Morgan Co, in 1857. She married Melvin Gibson, 1-14-1875. We only have record of one child born to this union. Samuel J.Music, born 10-8-1859, married Laura A. Gibbs, 9-15-1880. They had eight children. Rebecca and Samuel's children were born in Morgan Co., Kentucky. According to the 1900 Census records Phoeba Catherine Music was born around 1861 or 1862, probably in Johnson Co., Kentucky. She married Anderson Ross in Morgan Co, Kentucky. They had three children, Nancy Elizabeth born about 1879, Morgan Co., Kentucky, died 7-17-1966 at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; Callie Ross, no information; Laura Ross, no information. Thomas J. Musick enlisted in the First Co. "E", 5th Regiment, Kentucky Infantry, on October 19, 1861 at Prestonburg, Kentucky for a period of 12 months. He was arrested on 9-10-1862 at his residence in Johnson Co. Kentucky by the Home Guards of Pike Co., Kentucky. He was received at Wheeling, VA on 11-13-1862. He was then transferred to Camp Chase. When Thomas was released from the Union prison camp he returned to Johnson Co., Kentucky. It is believed his wife, Elizabeth, was living with Henry Roe.  Elizabeth and Henry had 12 children according to Manning researchers, the oldest being born in 1862. Thomas Jefferson Musick returned to Washington Co., Va and married second Mary Catherine Powers on 3-29-1864.  To this union was born 10 children; Simon Peter, born 1-27-1865, died 9-29-1948, married Sara Moore first, then Ellie Davidson, no children; Martha Elizabeth, born 11-30-1866, married Charlie Nunley, no children; Mary E., born 12-6-1868, died 11-30-1876; Melinda Tempie, born 8-4-1871, death date unknown, married William Warren first, second marriage Dick Warren, no children; John Henry, born 12-11-1873, died 3-26-1876; Abner Hughes, born   1-17-1877, died 10-24-1953, married Margaret Rouse, 8 children; Issac William, born 9-9-1880, died 12-21-1949, married Nanny Lee Henry, 16 children; Sarah Emeline, born 6-1-1883, died 11-8-1884; Margaret Adeline, born 6-1-1883, married Perry Short, ? children; Noah Lark, born 5-8-1886, died 7-7-1955, married Ossie Emmert first, second marriage, Nannie Lula Hill, 10 children.
