About two months ago, Henry Jahn, a son of T. Jahn living at Render, left home and his whereabouts could not be discovered. Diligent search and inquiry was made for him, but without avail. Saturday, Mr. Jahn was walking past an old mine shaft near his residence when he discovered the body of his son Henry floating in the water in the shaft. It is felt he committed suicide by jumping into the shaft.

The remains of a man was found in a small cave near Echols, on its finger was a ring with the name of JOHN ROARK on it. It is felt this was the JOHN ROARK, who about twenty years ago was a miner at ECHOLS & had difficulty with William Thompson, a weight boss for the Bevier Mines, the result being that Thompson was shot two times, from which he later died and Roark disappeared. His remains were buried in the woods near the cave.

MT. VENNON, KY NOV. 1...... Last night at BRODHEAD, this county, JOSIAH SUTTON, aged 17, was accidentally shot through the head and instantly killed while in a Halloween frolic. Horace Benton, age 20, one of SUTTON’S friends, who thought there were blank cartridge in his pistol, fired the fatal shot while carelessly handling the weapon. Young Benton was so overwrought over the affair that he had to be restrained from committing suicide. He is the oldest son of DR. PERCY BENOTN, a leading physician of this town.
