MRS. JOHN CAMPBELL of ROSINE gave birth to twins on the 6th, a boy and girl, all doing well.

ALONZO ROBISON and some friends were shooting a 32 pistol on the 10th, after they thought they had fired all the shots, he tried to unload the shells, and the pistol fired off, the bullet hitting ARTHUR DeBRULER.  It is felt he will not live.   Robinson is 20 and DeBruler is 25.

HENRY CASEY shot and killed himself  at the home of  FRANK McDANIEL at Calhoun, Ky on the 21st. Reportedly as a result of his marriage date being delayed several times by his intended.

HELLENA FISHER SMITH, wife of  J. E. SMITH of  WILLIAMS , KY died on JAN. 10, 1906. Age  22 years 9 months 2 days, she is the daughter of  MRS. ANNIE FISHER this place.  LAINIE, as she was called,  married J. E. SMITH on  DEC. 11, 1904 in OWENSBORO, KY.  She leaves her husband and baby boy, only a few hours old.  She was buried in the RENDER CEM.

OWENSBORO, KY. FEB 5..... JESSE TAYLOR, nineteen years old and out of work, shot and killed himself because he could not pay his board.  He passed a young woman sweeping snow off a coal pile, and offered to help her, he went to the house to get the coal bucket, but at the steps changed his mind, pulled his pistol and shot himself.  His father CHARLES TAYLOR had killed himself many years ago.  His mother lives in Louisville.

CENTRAL CITY, KY.... FEB 6.   J. A. MILLER a prominent farmer of ECHOLS, KY was killed here when he was walking along the railroad tracks, he stepped out of the way of a switch engine only to step in the front of a fast passenger train. He lived but a hour... He leaves his wife and several children.  He was formerly a Methodist minister

It is noted that as of JANUARY 1, 1906,  OHIO COUNTY has a total indebtedness of $24,000.00.

ISAAC SHOWN, of the Washington area, died on the 19th, and was buried in the SHOWN CEM.

C. C. CARTER of NARROWS has two original land grants from the Commonwealth of Virginia signed by GOV. PATRICK HENRY.  The tracts conveyed lie on the north side of  Rough Creek here, and each grant is for 2,000 acres, one bearing the date of DECEMBER 2, 1785 to  ISAAC WIMSTON and the other MAY 22, 1786 to WILLIAM MERIWETHER.  The grants were made in RICHMOND, then the Capital of Virginia, of which Kentucky was at that time a part of.   The grants set fourth that the land conveyed was in Jefferson County, Virginia. The ink on these ancient documents is well preserved.

A new law to take effect this coming June: there is to be a $1.00 property tax on every dog that is over the age of four months, this tax to off set the killing of sheep in the state.... If the owner of the dog does not pay the tax, they will be subject to a fine of $10.00; then if they refuse to pay the tax they will be subject to a $25.00 fine.  In the same bill, it says if anyone puts out poison that kills a dog is subject to a fine of $2.00 to $25.00 plus a jail term of up to six months or both...

PLEASANT GROVE......   HARRY BAKER and MISS LILLA COX went to OWENSBORO and were married on FEB. 12TH.

PLEASANT GROVE..... UNCLE DAN HUNT of HUNTSVILLE, a well known old man, is dead.

MRS. JAMES BENNETT has returned from NEW ORLEANS, where she was at the bedside of her son A. W. BENNETT.  It is reported he is doing better.

MRS. SAM H. HEAVRIN died at her home in LOUISVILLE on the 7th.  She was buried in OWENSBORO, her former home.  She was the former MISS ROTHCHILD and was married only a few months ago. MR. MRS. M. L. HEAVRIN were summoned by telegram on the 7th but arrived a short time before she died.

NOTE FROM THE MARCH 16th issue; MRS. STELLA ROTHCHILD HEAVRIN, one of the best loved young matrons of Louisville, passed away on the 7th.  She was the daughter of  JOSEPH ROTHCHILD of OWENSBORO, and sister to  SAMUEL and SOL ROTHCHILD of  OWENSBORO and MISS SOPHIA ROTHCHILD of LOUSIVILLE.  She had married DR. SAMUEL H. HEAVRIN on DECEMBER 6, 1905. He is a Dentist.

The family of B. A. MILLER, formerly of WARREN CO. KY, now living on the WILL RILEY farm have been poisoned.  It is felt that arsenic poison had made its way into the well water.  On the 7th, a little boy died, on the 8th his 5 year old sister.  Two more small children are near death at this point and an older brother is also very sick.

SMALLHOUS..... MESSRS.  C. R. ROSS and LUTHER ADDINGTON, who have been away from home for the past three years in the army, stationed in the PHILLIPPINE ISLANDS, have received Honorable discharges from the army and have returned home on APRIL 5th.

RENDER.....  MARY, the daughter of  MR & MRS SAM FILMORE, died on the 18th of pneumonia and was buried in the RENDER CEM.

SAN FRANCISCO, and a number of smaller towns on the Pacific Coast, were visited by a severe earthquake on the 18th at 5:30 am.  At San Francisco, several thousand lives are reported lost and property to the amount of $200,000,000.  Eight square miles of the business section of the city was destroyed by the quake and resulting in the destruction of the water works and crippling of the fire department.

In response to the request for relics from Ohio county, calling to mind pioneer days, a piece of stone, which once marked the grave of an OHIO COUNTY woman, was sent by MR. E. P. BARNETT. He sent the following information with it.  ANNIE BARNETT was born OCTOBER 14, 1770 in VIRGINIA and moved with her parents to the HARTFORD area; at the time it was called BARNETT’S STATION.  In the year 1790 there was a Indian attack, and she being so over come by it, fainted. The Indians thinking she was death scalped her, she recovered and lived to tell the story to her grandchildren.  She was the consort of  ROBERT BAIRD, and died in the area  on JUNE 22, 1835.

LIVERMORE.....  IRA KING, age 10, while playing with his brother CARL, age 6, shot and killed him.  The boys are the sons of  WASH KING.  Inquest was held and verdict was returned as accident.

WARD PENTHE, deputy sheriff  of  NICHOLASVILLE, KY  dropped his gun in the buggy, it fired, hitting and killing him, on MAY 22.   This was the same gun WILLIAM GOEBEL had on him at the time he was killed.

BARNETT REUNION

On the 24th at the old homestead of GEN. ROBERT BARNETT, one mile north of HARTFORD, now the home of  MRS. AMANDA BARNETT, there gathered 53 of his direct descendents.  The meeting was brought about by the return of W. C. BARNETT of VALLEY MILLS, TEXAS.  W. C. is the son of  ALEXANDER, the oldest of four sons of  GEN. ROBERT, the others being JOSEPH, ROBERT and MORRIS, none of whom are now living.  All present were descendents of those four brothers except for MRS. AMANDA BARNETT, widow of  ROBERT E. and MRS. ELLEN BARNETT, widow of  MORRIS.   It was estimated there are at least 500 descendents of the GEN. scattered far and wide.  At the meeting, W. C. BARNETT at the age of 64 was the oldest grandson and little LUTHER BARNETT of LOUISVILLE, age 2 years, 6 months, the youngest as he is the great-great son.

The Gen. was the son of ALEXANDER BARNETT of VIRGINIA and they had moved to the old fort which is now HARTFORD, then known as BARNETT’S STATION.... later Alexander settled on the present farm, then 2,000 acres, which he bought for 10 cents per acre.

Those present from a distance were W. C. BARNETT and MISS EULA BARNETT, and JOSIE JARRETT of  VALLEY MILLS, TEXAS;  MRS. ELLEN BARNETT and daughter, MISS ORA of LIVERMORE;  JOHN LINDLEY and family, and SIMPSON BARNETT and family of PLEASANT HILL; LUTHER BARNETT and family of  LOUISVILLE;  DR. NESTER BARNETT and daughter, MISS OCTAVE, of CANEYVILLE.

MRS. COLEMAN, widow of the late DR. J. S. COLEMAN died on the 6th, at the home of her daughter, MRS. LAURA MAGAN, of BUFORD.  MRS. COLEMAN was born JAN. 13, 1831, hence was 75 years of age.  She was the daughter of the late WILLIAM AUSTIN and niece of the late REV. JAMES AUSTIN.  Her first marriage was to BENJAMIN FIELDS about 55 years ago; he died in 1871 and in 1877 she married REV. DR. COLEMAN, who was one of the earliest Baptist PREACHERS of the Green River county.  Surviving her are five children by her first marriage as follows:  C. L. FIELDS of OWENSBORO,  HENRY FIELDS of HARTFORD, MRS. LAURA MAGAN of  BUFORD, B. L. FIELDS of PORTLAND, ORG. , J. S. FIELDS of OWENSBORO.

She was buried in MT. CARMEL CEM., OHIO CO., KY

ESQ. WILLIAM AUTRY, one of the most prominent and best known citizens of the county, died suddenly at his home in HORSE BRANCH on 15th  of  heart failure.  Esquire Autry had long been in business at Horse Branch and was popular with all classes of citizens.  He was the Republican nominee for Representative some years ago and was only defeated by a very narrow margin,  although he made no canvass of the county.  Since the county became Republican, he could have any office he chose, by merely consenting to run.

He was 80 YEARS OLD.   He was born and raised near HORSE BRANCH, OHIO CO., KY.    His death recalls the death of his father, who together with MR. COOKSEY and  J. WILLIAM THOMAS  drown in ROUGH CREEK , near HARTFORD, eight or more years ago.

At the recent Democratic State convention in Colorado, Hon. WILLIAM B. MORGAN, who was born and raised on ROUGH RIVER about  five miles north of  Hartford and spent his childhood in Hartford, was honored with the nomination for ATTORNEY GENERAL .   MR. MORGAN is the son of  PHOCEAN MORGAN, who was a prominent business man in HARTFORD and the brother of  HON. FRED MORGAN who was Police Judge here at one time.  Mr. Morgan went west when a young man and settled at TRINIDAD, COLO. where he has a large law practice.

It is reported that PERCY HUNT, the 25 year old son of  H. D. HUNT of ROCKPORT, died from drinking four ounces of  CARBOLIC ACID on the 28th.  He was a mail agent on a train running between ARIZONA and CALIFORNIA.  His remains are being retuned to ROCKPORT for burial.

MORGANTOWN, KY......  BUFORD RONE, a prominent farmer of this county, was found dead in his corn crib on November 5th.  He had gone to feed the pigs, and after several hours, was found.  It is felt he died of  apoplexy.

MR. W.H. MAUZY was notified by telegram that his son HERMAN MAUZY had been killed by a negro in BULAH, MISS. HERMAN was 22 years of age..

FLEM PAYNE, a white man of 50 years, who lived 3 miles from FOUNTAIN RUN on the road to GLASGOW, was killed by lightening in a field near his home about 4 weeks ago, and  was devoured by hogs and dogs.  He had left home saying he was going to Warren Co., thus he was not missed till the remains were found.  He left his wife and six children - most of them married.

MR. I. C. ADAIR, who for years was the cashier of the FORDSVILLE BANKING COMPANY’S BANK at FORDSVILLE, died at his home there on the 19th.  He was from HANCOCK CO. from which he moved to OHIO CO. about 15 years ago.  He leaves his wife and one daughter.  He was taken to HAWESVILLE for burial.
