Henry County Research Links
The Sutton Law introduced to the state legislature in
1850 approved in 1852
County clerks shall preserve list of birth, marriages, and deaths.
Some
counties started and have records up to 1911 when the federal government
started the vital records. Records during the civil war are
few.
Depending on the county clerk depends on how much information is
recorded. Check with the county court or the local genealogy society to
see if they have transcribed birth and death records.
The Henry Co Courthouse burned in 1804, which resulted in the loss of some records. Here is a compiled inventory of all the genealogical records available at the Henry County Clerk's Office, the Henry County History Center (both located in New Castle) and the Henry County Public Library (located in Eminence). The Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort and the Lexington Public Library. The Kentucky Dept for Libraries and Archives in Frankfort (microfilm) also have many early Henry County records. County court orders, deeds, marriages, etc. are available since the formation of the County. The History Center has all the original marriage bonds and marriages.
