Thomas Land
was born March 31, 1817 to
Jesse
Land (b.1780,
died somewhere between 1860-1870) and
Sallie Land
(daughter of John
Land,
b. 1756 VA and came to Madison County Ky. late
1700's). Thomas married Prudence Watkins
[Prudence Land]* on November 24, 1838 in Henry
County
and died in August of 1850. Prudence Watkins
was born September 10, 1799 in Pleasureville, KY, d.
1863. (After
Thomas's death in 1850 she married his brother
Abraham Land.
They are shown on 1860 census with son
Evan Land
and daughter Sarah
Land (who
were born to Thomas).

Land (July 30, 1839-November 21, 1930) married Rachel
Elizabeth Blackaby (May 6, 1844-August 28,
1922). Evan
is buried in the Land-Browning cemetery on Fallen Timber
Road. Our Land-Browning connection is through
Eliza Land
(believed to be sister of Thomas Land). Eliza married
Caleb
Browning. Rachel
Blackaby's parents are Robert Blackaby (b. May 8,
1804) and Susan Jane Aldridge (Cherokee, found &
adopted).
Evan Land had a son named
William Thomas Land,
Sr (born December 4, 1866 -July 17, 1947). William
was a blacksmith in Henry County who married Sarah Catherine
Harlow in 1892 (born July 27, 1872, d. 1956.). They had a
son named Joseph Evan Land
(born November 2, 1908, d. March 19, 1978) who married
Corine Elizabeth Stivers March 25, 1932. Corine was born
2/29/1908 and died at age 64 November 12, 1972. Her
parents
were John Stivers (b. 1835 to age 81, d. December 15, 1916)
who married Mary Kathryn Payton (1869 to age 75, d. January
19, 1945). Joseph Evan Land and
Corine Land had
three sons & two daughters,

Land,
Owen Leslie
Land (died 5 mo's old),
Beulah F.
Land &
Kathryn Land.
Joseph Wesley Land married
Linda Alice Downey. Linda's parents
were Lela Mae Fink (November 5, 1923, d. February 4, 1998)
and Herbert Leonard Downey (June 14, 1918). Linda and Joe
Land had two daughters,
Beth Marie Land &
Melinda Jo Land
raised in Henry County,
Kentucky. Melinda has one daughter named Candace
Ilene Wells, born
in Jefferson County
but lived in Eminence, KY.
Beth Marie Land married
Rodney Dale Beck from
North
Carolina.
They have son named Gavin Thomas Beck, born in
Frankfort, Kentucky
but they all reside in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

William Land married
Betty Ruble Land
and had son named John
Christopher Land and daughter
Cindy Gail
Land.
Beulah married Douglas Payton and have two daughters
Elizabeth Lynn Payton and Tomi Payton. Kathryn Payton
married Herman Reynolds and have son John Michael. [*The
parents of Prudence Watkins b. 1819 that married our Thomas
Land are Evan
Watkins Jr., b. 1/19/1772 at Watkins Ferry, Frederick Co.
VA, d. 1819 and Rachel Rounder, b. 1775, d. 10/11/1819.
Both are buried in the Watkins Cemetery, Smithfield, Henry
County. Evan Watkins Jr. was the son of Evan Watkins Sr.
b.
4/18/1744 VA, d. 1/17/1831 Henry Co, Ky. He married Prudence
(whose family name is unknown/"Thressa" is listed in
some
records which may be her last name or a middle name she used
quite frequently. Parents of Evan Watkins Sr. are Evan
Watkins, b. 1710 Maryland, d. 1765. He was married to
Mary
Catherine Webb, b. 1709 Uley, Gloucerershire, England. Of
interest is the fact that Evan Watkins was Maidstone on the
Potomac's first owner in Virginia. He established a ferry
crossing at the property which was seized by confederate
soldiers to cross into Virginia. Property is well preserved
and intact today.
The Watkins cemetery is on Giltner Rd, Smithfield, Ky.,
Henry County. It is 3 tenths of a mile after post office
on
left. There is a gravel drive up slope to brick house. Take
left right next to house. There is a chain link fence around
it.]
