Floyd Payton

         

          Floyd T. Payton, 75, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at his residence.  He was a native of Anderson County, the son of the late Herman and Mary Murdock Payton, a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, a retired electrician and lineman with the Frankfort Water and Electric Plant Board and a member of the DAV.

          He is survived by his wife: Janet Sue Payton, Bardstown; two sons: Floyd T. Payton II, Bardstown and Billy James Payton, Shelbyville; two daughters: Melissa Lynn Lowden, Smithfield and Mary Helen Pace, Campbellsburg; three brothers: William Payton and Lewis Payton, both of Shelbyville and Kenneth Payton, Park City; two sisters: Elizabeth League and Helen Kincaid, both of Frankfort and six grandsons.

          Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 11th at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort.

Aleah Preston

 

          Aleah Patricia Meshell Preston, one month old, of Sulphur, died Saturday, October 12, 2002 at Kosair Children�s Hospital, Louisville.

            She is survived by her mother: Robin Jean Murphy, Sulphur; father: Robert Paul Newberry, Sulphur; grandmother: Debbie Murphy, New Castle; grandfather: Wayne Sutherland, Port Royal; and great-grandmother: Naomi Payton, New Castle.

            Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Garry Polston, Pastor of the New Castle United Methodist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Grace Price

 

          Grace Elynn Price, 55, of New Castle, died Saturday, November 9, 2002 at her residence.  She was the daughter of the late Hardy and Lillie Rogers Watkins.

            She is survived by three daughters: Denita Watkins, Eminence, Stephanie Ruso, Shelbyville and Belinda Warren, Minnesota and six grandchildren.

            The body was cremated.  A memorial service was held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 14th at the Eminence Baptist Church.  Rev. Michael Duncan, Pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, officiated.  Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Anna Pyles

 

          Anna Kathleen Spencer Pyles, 82, of Bedford, died Thursday, May 24, 2001 at the Carroll County Hospital.  She was a native of Carroll County, the daughter of the late Prentice and Gertie Grimes Spencer, a housewife, operated a grocery, worked for the Trimble County Sheriff, and a member of the Prestonville Methodist Church.

            She is survived by one sister: Melissa �Little� Raines, Campbellsburg; two nieces, two nephews, one great-niece and three great-nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Pyles.

            Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29th at the Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford.  Bro. Doug Boyd officiated.  Interment was in the Carrollton IOOF Cemetery.

Andy Ramsey

 

          Andy Johnson Ramsey, 79, died Tuesday, December 11, 2012.  He was the son of the late Roy Ramsey and Hazel Rice Ramsey.

            He is survived by two sons: Larry Ramsey, Pendleton and David Ramsey, Madison, IN; and one daughter: Carolyn Gilbert, Georgetown, IN.

            Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 14th at the Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford.  Chaplin Nathan Marrs and Bro. Anthony Lawson officiated.  Interment was in the Bedford Cemetery.

Anthony Rhoton

 

          Anthony Brian Rhoton, 32, of New Castle, formerly of Crestwood, died Thursday, May 24, 2001 in Hillsboro, OH.  He was a native of Oldham County, a U.S. Army Veteran of Desert Storm and a truck driver.

            He is survived by his wife: Dottie Rhoton, New Castle; one step-daughter: Courtney Chappell, New Castle; his parents: William F. and Carolyn Sue Kerr Rhoton, Crestwood; two sisters: Marquita (Ronald) Allen, New Castle and Alicia Rhoton, Crestwood; grandmothers: Nora Poynter, Park City and Louise Kerr, Brownsville; and great-grandmother: Della Waddle, Cub Run.

            Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Nick Coleman, Sulphur, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Gladys Roberts

 

          Gladys Hawkins Roberts, 87, of Carrollton, died Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Carroll County memorial Hospital after an illness of several months.  She was a native of Port Royal, the daughter of the late William and Lavain Tingle Hawkins, a retired executive at Holiday Inn and a Methodist.

            She is survived by one son: Charles E. Roberts, Carrollton; one sister: Mary Turner, Vevay, IN; one grandson and three great-grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 13th at the Graham- Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton.  Rev. Matthew Young officiated.  Burial was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Mildred Leona Roberts

 

          Mildred Leona Roberts, 76, of New Castle, died Saturday, November 9, 2002 at Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle.  She was a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Ree Roberts.

            She is survived by her daughter: Evalena (Albert) Raisor, New Castle; two sons: Tommy Rogers and Dean Rogers, both of New Castle; great-great-grandson: Jeremy Raisor; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Bill Brumley, Chaplain with Hospice of Louisville, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Nicky Roberts

 

          Nicky Glen Roberts, 40, of Eminence, died Friday, June 15, 2001 at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville.  He was a native of Shelby County, the son of the late Beverly Jean Ginder Roberts and a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church.

            He is survived by his wife: Ruth Jeffries Roberts, Eminence; two daughters: Patricia Dawn Thurman and Ashley Nicole Roberts, both of Eminence; his father and step-mother: Orva Lee (Bubby) and Wanda Puckett Roberts, Smithfield; two sisters: Lana (Mike) Martin, Louisville and Chris (Marvin) Morris, Frankfort; two brothers: Orva Lee Roberts, Jr., Elmburg and Rev. Bobin Dale Roberts, Louisville; two step-sisters: Cindy (Ken) Case, Smithfield and Cathy (Mark) Ash, Centerfield.

            Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 18th at Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home.  Rev. Ed Life, Pastor of the Smithfield Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Todd Woodward, Pastor of the Elmburg Baptist Church.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Joan Rogers

 

          Joan E. Rogers, 53, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at her residence.  She was a native of Henry County, the daughter of the late Lonnie Jasper and Mavis Marie Preuitt Parks, an employee of Omega Plastics and raised a Baptist.

            She is survived by one son: James W. Hedges, Eminence; one daughter: Regina Ferguson, Shelbyville; two brothers: Wendell Parks, New Castle and Glen Owens, Pleasureville; four sisters: Linda Henderson, Leitchfield, Naomi Goodman, Shelbyville, Marie Shelburne, Taylorsville and Christine McCoy, Pleasureville and two grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 15th at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. Jesse Baxter officiated.  Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Betty Josephine Royce

 

          Betty Josephine Royce, 81, of Louisville, formerly of Henry County, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the Episcopal Church Home in Louisville.  She was the daughter of the late William and Lucy Hudson Thurman.

            She is survived by her son: James Keith Royce, LaGrange.

            Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 5th at the Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Interment was in the Defoe Cemetery.

David Rucker

 

          David S. Rucker, 48, of Campbellsburg, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Jewish Hospital, Louisville.

            He is survived by his wife: Joann Golden Rucker, Campbellsburg; three daughters: Samantha Rucker, Shelbyville, Lauren Rucker, Shelbyville and Clara Rucker, Campbellsburg; one son: Henry Rucker, Campbellsburg; and his mother: Juanita Tingle Rucker, Campbellsburg.

            Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Shawn Golden, Pastor of the Campbellsburg Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Defoe Cemetery.

Omer Rucker

 

          Omer (Doc) Rucker, 50, of Carrollton, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at the Carroll Memorial Hospital, Carrollton.  He was a native of Henry County, the son of the late Roy Lee Rucker, an employee of Dow Corning, Carrollton, and a member of the Elmburg Baptist Church.

            He is survived by his wife: Linda Jackson Rucker, Carrollton; four step- daughters: Beverly (Barry) Payton, Bedford, Sandy (Jeff) Klette, Union, Meloney Mahoney, Carrollton and Kathy (Kevin) Lawrence, Richwood; his mother: Katie F. Rucker, Eminence; two brothers: David Ray Rucker, Lockport and Michael Allen Rucker, Pleasureville; one niece, two great nieces; one nephew and twelve Step-grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 1st at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Hayward Yeary, Pastor of the Union Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Defoe Cemetery.

James Graham Sackett

          James Graham Sackett, 48, of Bainbridge, WA, died Saturday, November 9, 2002 in an auto accident.  He was a native of St. Louis, MO and an architect.  He is survived by his wife: Juliana Perez, formerly of Henry County, one son: Zane Sackett; one daughter: Lauren Sackett; his mother: Christina Sackett, St. Louis, MO; and his father and mother-in-law: Butch and Elsa Matheny, Pleasureville.

            A celebration of Life Memorial Service was held Sunday, November 17th at the Center for Spiritual Living Church, Seattle, WA.

Anna Skaggs

 

          Anna Jean �Janie� Mahoney Skaggs, 77, of Mt. Washington, died Thursday, February 14, 2008.  She was the daughter of Eva and Cline Mahoney, and a member of the Mt. Washington Christian Church.

            She is survived by her husband: Eugene Skaggs; one daughter: Gina Hunts mercer; siblings: Velma �Snookie� Barnett and Marie �Recie� Burd, both of Taylorsville; Wilma Jo Simmons, Madison, IN; sue Price, Linda Wolfe and James Mahoney, all of Campbellsburg; and Wayne Mahoney, Hanover, IN; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 18th at Schmid Funeral Home, Mt. Washington.  Interment was in Highland Memory Gardens, Mt. Washington.

Mary Skelton

 

          Mary Gertrude Leet Skelton, 83, of Eminence, died Monday, September 19, 1983 at her residence.  She was a member of the Eminence Baptist Church, a native of Oldham County, a homemaker and the widow of Ruby Skelton.

            She is survived by one daughter: Dorothy Snavely, Eminence; two sisters: Grace Simon, Belleair, FL and Thelma Tennat, Concord, NH; and several nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 22nd at Hall & Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. Michael Duncan officiated.  Interment was in the Bagdad Cemetery.

Leonard C. �L.C.� Skidmore, Jr.

 

            Leonard C. �L.C.� Skidmore, Jr., 92, of Campbellsburg, died Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Baptist East Hospital, Louisville.  He was the son of the late Leonard C. Skidmore, Sr. and Stella Jones Skidmore, a farmer and truck driver and a member of the Campbellsburg United Methodist Church.

            He is survived by two daughters: Adria Kay(Bill) Smith   Mary Lynn (Carlton) Neat, all of Louisville; three grandchildren: Amy (Matt) Jamison and Andrew and Emily Neat, and one great-grandson: Jackson Keith Jamison.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Skidmore and two brothers, Dr. Ralph J. Skidmore and Hugh Skidmore, Sr.

            Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 19th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Pastor Earl Wayne Perry, of the Sligo Baptist Church, officiated.

Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Mary Jo Coombs Skidmore

 

          Mary Jo Coombs Skidmore, 83, of Campbellsburg, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at Baptist Hospital East, Louisville.  She was a member of the Campbellsburg United Methodist Church and the daughter of the late Joseph Lee and Mary Lou Hudson Coombs.

            She is survived by her husband: L. C. Skidmore, Jr., Campbellsburg; two daughters: Kay (Bill) Smith and Mary Lynn (B. Carlton III) Neat, all of Louisville; three grandchildren: Amy Young, Andrew Neat and Emily Neat.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31st at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Ray Snider, former pastor of the Campbellsburg United Methodist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Lucretia Skinner

 

          Lucretia Skinner, 85, of Eminence, a retired school teacher, died at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the New Castle Sanitarium.

            Miss Skinner, a native of Lincoln County, had taught school for 45 years in Mercer, Trimble and Garrard Counties in Kentucky and in North Dakota.  She retired in 1943 and moved to Henry County in 1950.  She was a member of the Eminence Baptist Church.

            Survivors include four brothers: Delbert Skinner, Bemidji, MN, David Skinner, MN, Arch Skinner, Smithfield and James Skinner, New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Ricketts Funeral Home in Eminence.  Rev. R. H. Mincey, Pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, officiated.  Rev. Guthrie Shely, Pastor of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church where Miss Skinner was a former member, officiated at the services at the grave in the Harrodsburg Cemetery.

Mattie Sleets

 

          Mattie Bradford Bailey Sleets, 85, of Eminence, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at her residence.  She was a seamstress and a member of the Eminence First Baptist Church.  She was the daughter of the late Richard Bradford and Margaret Ashby Bailey.

            She is survived by five daughters: Wanda (Bill) Smith, Brenda (Leo) Bradford, Gwendolyn (William) Duncan, all of Louisville, Janet Young, Eminence and Lana (Elbert) Sims, Phoenix, AZ; two sisters: Elizabeth Bailey, Eminence and Dorothy Keaton, Louisville; one brother: William Bailey, Louisville; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 29th at the First Baptist Church of Eminence.  Rev. Charles Duncan, Jr., Pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Dr. W. H. Goatley, Pastor Emeritus of the First Baptist Church of Eminence.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Alberta Taylor Sloan

 

          Alberta Taylor Sloan, 71, of Clayvillage, died Saturday, February 8, 2003 at her residence.  She was a native of Shelby County, the daughter of the late Theodore and Rena Chapman Taylor, a retired employee of Kroger, and a member of the Clayvillage Baptist Church.

            She is survived by one son: Darrell Glenn �Topper� Sloan, Shelbyville; three sisters: Betty Jean Taylor York and Katherine Taylor Roberts, both of Shelbyville and Louise Taylor Turner, Pleasureville; two half-sisters: Breneda Merchant, Bagdad and Elizabeth Applegate, Middletown; and three grandsons.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Frank Sloan.

            Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 11th at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. Vernon Carpenter and Rev. William H. Brumley officiated.  Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Yvonne Sloan

 

          Yvonne Downey Sloan, 71, of Shelbyville, died Friday, December 21, 2007 at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville.  She was the daughter of the late James Humphrey and Flora Belle Bennett Downey, retired from GE, and a member of the Shelby Christian Church.

            She is survived by her husband: Tex Sloan, Shelbyville; two daughters: Cynthia Sloan Sanchez, Finchville and Lisa Sloan Teague, LaGrange; two sisters: Nancy Smith Pleasureville and Grace O�nan, Defoe; and four grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Downey.

            Funeral services were held on Monday, December 24th at the Shelby Christian Church.  Bro. Dave Hamlin and Rev. Don Waterfill officiated.  Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery.  Hall-Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rose Smith

 

          Rose Mae Smith, 77, of LaGrange, died Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at her residence.  She was a native of Henry County, the daughter of the late Charles and Hattie Mae Kephart Warner, a retired inspector for Amera-Forma Manufacturing Company, and a member of the Covington Baptist Church.

            She is survived by two sons: Charles Smith, Campbellsburg, and Bobby  Smith, LaGrange; three daughters: Cathie Wheat, Jeffersonville, IN, Beverly Kriel, Westport and Paula Jackson, Bedford; two sisters: Margie Pickell and Martha Jo Millhollan; both of Louisville; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8th at Arch L. Heady Radcliffe Funeral Home, LaGrange.  Rev. Tommy Rucker, Covington Baptist Church, officiated.  Burial was in the Sulphur Cemetery.

Catherine Spicer

 

          Catherine Parrish Spicer, 89, of Louisville, formerly of Pleasureville, died Friday, June 1, 2001 at Wesley Manor Retirement Community Nursing Center, Louisville.  She was a native of Lockport, the daughter of the late Leslie and Mary Ellen Wallace Parrish, a retired school teacher for 20 years in Dayton, OH and attended the Pleasureville United Methodist Church.

            She is survived by one daughter: Barbara ( Steven) Jockell, Louisville; seven sisters: Mildred Hohman, Grove City, PA, Josephine Payne, Pleasureville, Helen (Andrew) Frost, Williamsburg, Marylena (James Robert) Bryant, Franklinton, Maudedena Leigh, Memphis, TN, Betty (Kenneth) McCardwell and Patsy (Donald) Williams, both of Campbellsville; four brothers: Wallace Parrish, Frankfort, Woody Parrish, Lockport, Lester Parrish, Paris and Carl Parrish, Lexington. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Spicer.

            Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 4th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Bettie Rich Coleman officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville, Cemetery.

Clarence Stilger

 

          Clarence John Stilger, 83, of Pendleton, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Klondike Manor Nursing.  He was a native of Jefferson County, a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, a home builder and was retired from Stilger Construction.

            He is survived by his wife: Mary Opal Troutman Stilger, LaGrange; three sons: C. J. Stilger, Oklahoma, Ray Stilger, Jeffersonville, IN, and David Stilger, Louisville; two sisters: Dorothy Dale and Margaret Schmidt, both of Louisville; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

            Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m./ Thursday, June 7th at Arch L. Heady Radcliffe Funeral Home, LaGrange.  Rev. Chris Young, Pastor of the LaGrange Heights Baptist Church, officiated.  Burial was in the Valley of Rest Cemetery, LaGrange.

Charles Sturgeon

 

          Charles �Dick� Sturgeon, 93, of Turners Station, died Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at St. Mary�s Medical Center, Evansville, IN.  He was a native of Carroll County, the son of the late Charles and Ida McManis Sturgeon, a retired Chief engineer for American Barge Line Company for twenty-eight years, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Louisville and the Turners Station Baptist Church.

            He is survived by one son: George Sturgeon, Huntington, WV, one daughter: Francis Sturgeon Mitchell, Evansville, IN; two step-brothers: Allen Brooks, Del Ray beach, FL and George Brooks, Versailles; one step-sister: Betty brooks, California; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife: Helen Sturgeon.

            Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16th at Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg.  Rev. Carl Rucker and Rev. Earl Wayne Perry officiated.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.
