Owen C. Atchison
Owen C. Atchison, 90, of Eminence, died Sunday, August 5, 2012, at his residence. Owen was a farmer, a member of the New Castle Methodist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 282 in Eminence. He was the son of the late Elmer and Clara Bell Terrill Atchison. He is survived by his companion: Juanita Jeffries, Eminence; two daughters: Mary Jean Atchison, Frankfort and Linda Smith, New Castle; one son: Raymond Atchison, Eminence; one sister: Minnie Pollard, Pleasureville; two brothers: Charles Atchison, Shelbyville and Marvin Atchison, Smithfield; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Adams Atchison and brother, Ray Atchison. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 9th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Garry Polston, Pastor of the Olive Branch Methodist Church officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

James Thomas Baker, 86, of Pleasureville, died Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at his residence. He was born in Winchester, and was the son of the late Oscar and Bertha Christopher Baker. He was a retired tool and die setter at GE in Louisville, a member of the Pleasureville Baptist Church and a 51 year member of Solomon Masonic Lodge No. 5 in Shelbyville. He was a US Army Veteran of both WWII and the Korean Conflict. His is survived by his son: James Alan Baker (Teresa), Eminence; one grandchild: Sandra Lucas (Jeremy); two step-grandchildren: Jennifer West and Kelli Fetter; one step-great-grandchild: Raeleigh West; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bramlette Baker. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 4th, at Sholar Funeral Home of Pleasureville. Jerry Anderson, Pastor of the Pleasureville Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Helen C. Banta, 77, of Shelbyville, died Sunday, February 2, 2003. She was the daughter of the late James A. and Mary E. O�Rourke Sambets and a homemaker.
She is survived by a son: Jim Banta, New Palestine, IN; three daughters: Par Reese and Mary Ellen Thomas, both of Shelbyville, and Elizabeth C. Bambill, Vine Grove; a brother: James J. Sambets, Inverness, FL; two sisters: Kay Kulikowski, Ft. Pierce, FL and Terry Osborn, Frankfort; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 5th at 2:00 p.m. at the Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Rev. Bill Brumley officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Lee Roy �Doodle� Banta, 69, of Pleasureville, died Friday, October 24, 2003 at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville. He was the son of the late Boyd and Lula Ellen Fink Banta, a US Army Veteran, a teacher of plumbing at Jefferson State Vocational School, served as assistant chief of Pleasureville Fire Department, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Pleasureville Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife: Wanda Long Banta, Pleasureville; one daughter: Kim Banta Batts, Pleasureville; two brothers: Marvin Banta, Pleasureville and Lloyd Thomas Banta, Shelbyville; two sisters: Ruth Ellegood and Anna Mary Eldridge, both of Pleasureville; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, and his son-in-law. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 28th at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Jerry Anderson, Pastor of the Pleasureville Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Don Waterfill, Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church. Burial was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Bob D. Barefoot, 67, of Eminence, died Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. He was a US Air Force Veteran and son of the late Mary Ellen Dotts Barefoot. He is survived by his wife: Cheryl Barefoot, Eminence; his son: Benjamin Barefoot, Eminence; and his father: Robert Earl Barefoot, CA. Cremation was chosen. Prewitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Roselend Marie Barnes, 47, of Eminence, died suddenly Saturday, December 21, 2002 at her residence. She was a native of Shelby County, the daughter of the late Virgil and Edna Taylor Miller. She is survived by three sons: Chester Barnes, Jr. and Chris Barnes, both of Shelbyville and Jessie Barnes, Eminence; four sisters: Barbara Ann Carson and Wanda Patterson, both of Eminence, Debbie Feldon, Gadsden, AL and Gloria Gresta, Chicago, Il; and one brother: Tommy Miller, Eminence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Lee Barnes, Sr. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 24th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Don Waterfill, Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, Shelbyville, officiated. Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Linda G. Bauer, 60, of Louisville, died Friday, May 30, 2003 at Norton Suburban Hospital. She was a native of Henry County and a member of the Elk Creek Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband: Charles T. Bauer; one son: Raymond Perkins; two brothers: Larry Gardner and Prentice Gardner; two sisters: Evelyn Farris and Ella Mae Harrell and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2nd at the Fern Creek Funeral Home. Interment was in the Louisville Memorial Gardens-West.

Jean Burton LaMaster Bell, 82, of New Castle, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003, at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange. She graduated from the New Castle High School in 1938, attended Stephens College in Columbia MO and Western Kentucky State Teachers College in Bowling Green and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor�s and master�s degrees in education and speech and hearing. She taught in the Henry County School System from 1951 � 1967. In 1968, she became the director of speech and hearing services for the Kentucky State Department of Education. Retiring from her state position in the early 1980s, she served as a consultant and therapist to health agencies for several years. She was a member of the New Castle Baptist Church for 68 years. She was preceded in death by her parents: Arnett R. and Ollie Burton LaMaster. She is survived by her daughter: Jean Lou (Richard) Hess, Bolingbrook, IL; son: Roy J. �Roby� Bell III, Kailua, HI; brother: Arnett LaMaster, Jr., New Castle; and two grandchildren: Emily Burton Bell, Kailua, HI and Davis Arnett Bell, Santa Barbara, CA. A memorial service was held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23rd at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Dr. David Charlton, Pastor of the New Castle First Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Martha Batts Belwood, 75, of Smithfield, died suddenly Friday, February 14, 2003 at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville. She was the daughter of the late Courtland and Gladys Swindler Batts, a retired executive director of Social Security in Frankfort for 34 years, a member of the Smithfield Garden Club and the Smithfield Christian Church. She is survived by one daughter: Saundra (Tom) Smith, Smithfield; one son: Col. Lloyd �Sonny� Belwood, Ft. Worth, TX; two sisters: Wanda Thurman, New Castle and Barbara (Wayland) Watkins, Summerfield, FL; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Henry Belwood. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Carl Rucker, Pastor of the Port Royal Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Kurt Ellis, Pastor of the Smithfield Christian Church and Steve Thurman, LaGrange. Interment was in the Smithfield Cemetery.

Gilbert Berry, 87, of Port Royal, died Friday, December 27, 2002 at Homestead Nursing Center in New Castle. He was formerly of Louisville. He was a retired assembler with Lee Cook Corp., of Louisville for 28 years, a member of the English Christian Church and the son of the late Charles and Ethel May Berry. He is survived by his wife: Marjorie Hall Berry, Port Royal; two sons: Gilbert M. Berry and Charles L. Berry, both of Port Royal; five half-sisters: Beulah Marsh, Carrollton, Georgia Lee Towns, Bluffton, IN, Ann Berrier and Neppie Berry Baxter, both of Louisville, and Linda Bates, Worthville; two half-brothers: Sherman Berry, Turners Station and Robert berry, Gas City, IN; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gayle Berry and six half-brothers, Gordon, Grant, Goble, Jack, Vivian and Parker Berry. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 30th at Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne Mock, Pastor of the New Richmond Church of Christ, New Richmond, OH, officiated. Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

He was formerly of Turners Station, owner of Aerial Roofing and Contracting Company of Neenah and a member of the Family Worship Center in Carrollton. He is survived by his wife: Karey Hancock Berry, Neenah; a son: Keegan Berry, Neenah; his parents: John and Carol Berry, Jr., Turners Station; a sister: Markie Jo (Matt) Holmes, St. Louis, MO; and three brothers: John M. Berry, III, Turners Station, Joel H. Berry, Denver, CO and William O. Berry, St. Louis, MO. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 4th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. He was the son of the late Rhonald Melvin Beverly, a US Marine Corps Veteran, a farmer, a member of the Henry County DAV and the Orville Baptist Church. He is survive4d by his wife: Carolyn �Sissy� Finney Beverly, Lockport; three sons: Calvin Beverly and Lawrence Beverly, both of Lockport and Billy Jack Beverly, Shelbyville; one daughter: Rhonda Beverly, Lockport; his mother: Fredia May Gilbert Beverly Scott, Port Royal; one brother: Wesley Beverly, Turners Station and one sister: Violet Spear, Eminence; three step grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 13th at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Tom Hall officiated. Burial was in the Cox Cemetery, Lockport.

Eula Ann Boling Blair, 73, of New Castle, died Friday, August 17, 2012, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. Daughter of the late R. T. and Anna Squires Boling, she was a teacher at Fern Creek High School for 27 years and a substitute teacher for the Henry County Schools after her retirement. She was a member of the New Castle Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband: John L. Blair, New Castle; two daughters: Terry Leigh (Paul) Baxter, New Castle and sherry L. Bell, Louisville; two step-sons: James A. (Rita) Blair, Crestwood and John G. (Tanita) Blair, Louisville; step-daughter: Sherrie Blair, Vine Grove; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and three step- great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21st, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Nick Coleman officiated, assisted by Rev. James P. Blair. He was a native of Woodford County, the owner/operator of Western Auto, Eminence for nearly 30 years, a member of the Eminence Christian Church for over 50 years, a WWII U. S. Army Veteran and the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Stella Haynes Brammell. He is survived by his wife: Helen Hartman Brammell, Eminence; two sons: James H. Brammell, New Castle and William H. Brammell, Eminence; three granddaughters: Katie, Emily and Jenna Brammell; three grandsons: Bill, Jr., Mason and Reese Brammell. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the Christian Church. Rev. Carl Rucker, Pastor of the Port Royal Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Nathan Wilson, Interim Pastor of the Eminence Christian Church. Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Roy W. Brent, 96, of Campbellsburg, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. He was the son of the late Leland and Anna Brent, A founding member of the Campbellsburg Lions Club, a retired employee, officer, and/or director of the United Citizens Bank and Trust Company, Campbellsburg and a member of the Campbellsburg Christian Church. He is survived by two sons: Frank A. Brent, Campbellsburg and Roy W. Brent, Jr., Nairobi, Kenya; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 8th at the Campbellsburg Christian Church. Dr. David V. Cooper officiated. Ransdell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William Bryan Brewer, 59, of Louisville, formerly of New Castle, died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at the University of Louisville Hospital. He was a native of Henry County, the son of the late Eugene and Dora Katherine Williams Brewer, a retired businessman and entrepreneur, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the New Castle United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife: Donna J. Brewer, Louisville; a son: Tim Brewer, Louisville; a daughter: Marsha Kinsler, California; and two grandchildren. The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15th at the New Castle United Methodist Church.

Daughter of the late Earl W. and Mildred Payton Ellis, she was a bus driver for the Henry County Schools. She is survived by her husband: Charles Brown, Pleasureville; one son: Robbie Brown, Pleasureville; three brothers: Edward Earl Ellis, New Castle, Bobby Ellis, Pleasureville and Ronald Ellis, Eminence; two step-sons and two step-daughters; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, David Ellis. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 27th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Dr. Dave Charlton, Pastor of the New Castle First Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Bruce. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 5th, at the Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Page, Pastor of the Eminence Christian Church, officiated. Interment was in the Sulphur Springs Cemetery, Franklin.

She is survived by two daughters: Patsy Bryan Gray, Atlanta, GA and Carol Heilman, Campbellsburg; one son: Bill Bryan, Carmel, IN; one brother: W. T. �Bill� Robertson, Phoenix, AZ; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Lew F. Bryan. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7th at the church of the Good shepherd, Frankfort. Rev. Michael Ramler officiated. Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert �Shug� burrows and four sisters, Ethel Burnett, Anita Reynolds, Josephine Arnold and Lucille Hutcherson. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 12th at Sligo Baptist Church. Rev. Earl Wayne Perry and Rev. Bradford Laubinger officiated. Interment was in the Sligo Cemetery, Pendleton.
