Joda E. Bailey, age 78, of Shelbyville died Saturday, August 7, 1999 at Hillcreek Manor, Louisville. He was a native of Henry County, the son of the late Alexander and Mary Thomas Hardin Bailey, a retired truck driver for WPB Oil Company and a member of Burks Branch Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Tingle Bailey, Shelbyville; three sons: Roy T. Bailey, Douglas L. Bailey and Darrell W. Bailey, all of Shelbyville; two daughters: Mary Jo Barbour, Shelbyville; and Valendia Ott, LaGrange; three brothers: Hugh C. Bailey, Defoe; Buford A. Bailey, Louisville; and Charles R. Bailey, Hodgenville; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Rev Billy Betts officiated. Burial was in Shady Lawn Cemetery, Shelbyville. Henry County Local August 18, 1999 Redell Morris Bailey, age 81, of Eminence, died Saturday, August 28, 2004 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Tillet and Rebecca Carter Bailey. She is survived by her son, James Wright, Eminence. A memorial graveside service will take place today, (Wednesday, September 1) at 2 p.m. at Eminence Cemetery. Rev. Charles Duncan, pastor of Eminence First Baptist Church will be officiating. Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Henry County Local September 1, 2004 Mrs. Myrtle F. Bain, 72 of Missouri died June 2nd at her residence. She was formerly of Henry County and a member of the Lockport Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Gloria Simpson, Three Rivers, Michigan, Ms. Margaret Katherine Bain, California and Mrs. Carolyn Wilson, Piedmont, Missouri; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held June 2nd at the McPahaden Funeral Home in Missouri. Interment was in the Van Buren Memorial Cemetery, Missouri. Rev. Major Puckett, officiated. Henry County Local June 11, 1981 Mrs. Annie Poole Baker, 83 of LaGrange died at 5:35 p.m. Monday, May 28 at Mallory-Taylor Hospital, LaGrange following an illness. She was a native of Henry County, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Margaret Catherine Penn Poole. She was a former resident of the Sligo Community, a member of the Sligo Baptist Church and the Oldham Hills Homemakers. She is survived by one son, Mrs. Forrest Baker, Sligo; six grandchildren, Larry Baker, Lisa Baker, Randy Baker and Gary Baker; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Mr. Bailey Poole, Smithfield, Mr. Herman Poole, Buckner and Mr. Daniel Poole, Louisville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 31st at the Sligo Baptist Church. Rev. Shuford Jones, pastor, officiated. Interment was in the Smithfield Cemetery. Henry County Local June 7, 1979 Celestine Alexander Baker, age 70, died September 30, 1991 at University Hospital Louisville. Survivors include 2 daughters, Royce Laine Kennedy, Louisville and Vickie Sue Withers, Newark, Ohio; two brothers, Doug Alexander, Kent, Indiana and Donnie Alexander, Milton; 4 sisters, Lola Mahoney, New Castle, Wilma Graves, Ponta Gorda, Florida, Norma Parks, Madisonville and Jo Ann Lawson, Milton and 6 grandchildren.

He was a native of Hazard, Kentucky; formerly of Henry County; a retired coal miner; and a member of the Church of Christ, LaGrange. His survived by his wife , Mrs. Fannie Stitims Baker, Blandchester, Ohio; six daughters, Mrs. Nellie Couch, Carrollton, Mrs. Bert (Mildred) Couch, Blandchester, Ohio, Mrs. Robert (Joyce Feltner, Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Janette Feltner, Blandchester, Ohio, Mrs. Taylor (Marie) Couch, New Castle, and Mrs. Donald (Aline) Thompson, Cincinnati, Ohio; five sones, Robert Baker and Ed Baker, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Rick Baker, New Castle, Roger Baker, Loveland, Ohio, and Laurence Baker, Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Sam Baker, West Virginia and Brounlo Baker, Yerkes, Kentucky; 35 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Henry County Local January 31, 1985 Elmer Baker, 73 of Eminence, died Wednesday, August 3rd in Louisville after an illness. He was a member of the Clifton Baptist Church in Louisville. He is survived by three sons, Randall Baker and Kenny Baker, Both of Eminence and Robert Baker, Louisville; two daughters, Treva Browning, Eminence and Cathy Fitzgerald, Gratz; 7 grandchildren; and one sister, Bessie Rusch, St. Matthews. She was a native of Perry County, formerly of Blanchester, Ohio, and a member of Gustin-Rider Church of Christ, Blanchester, Ohio. She is survived by six daughters: Mrs. Nellie Couch, Carrollton; Mrs. Burt (Helen) Couch, Blanchester, Ohio; Mrs. Joyce Feltner and Mrs. Donald (Aileen) Thomas, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Janette L. Small and Mrs. Taylor (Anna Marie) Couch, both of Lockport; five sons: Robert O. Baker, Cincinnati, Ohio; Roy E. Baker, New Castle; Rick Baker, Sr., Campbellsburg; Roger Baker, Loveland, Ohio; and Lawrence Baker, Anderson, Indiana; one sister, Mrs. Verte Keller, Vanwert, Ohio; 34 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Baker, one daughter, Mavis Baker and two sons: Larry and Ralph Baker. Henry County Local (No Date) Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Baker, 73 of Route 2, Pleasureville died Wednesday, June 17th at the King’s Daughters Hospital, Frankfort. She was a native of Shelby County; a retired employee of the Department of Human Resources in Frankfort; and a member of the Henry Christian Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. James (Aliene) Hardin, Louisville and Mrs. Rosemary Wood, Frankfort; three sons, Herbert Baker, Michigan City, Indiana, Ransom Baker, Frankfort and Tommy Baker, Route 2, Pleasureville; one brother, Stanley Baker, Sr., Route 1, Bagdad; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20th from Prewitt’s, New Castle. Rev. Richard Martin, formerly pastor of the Henry Christian Church, officiated, assisted by Tommy Baker, Youth Minister of the First Church of Christ, Florence, Kentucky and Ron Whitacre, Choir Director of the Shelby Christian Church. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local June 25, 1981 Raymond Baker, 69, of Route 1, Turners Station, died Saturday, May 5th at the Jewish Hospital, Louisville. He was a native of Lawrenceburg; a World War II Veteran; and a retired stone mason. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kathleen Baker, Route 1, Turners Station; two sons, Thomas Baker, Crestwood and Dalton Willett, Madison, Indiana; five daughters, Mrs. Carole Stanley, Louisville; Mrs. Joyce Wilson, Inez, Kentucky; Mrs. Sandra Pleu, Worthville, Kentucky; Mrs. Betty Brown and Mrs. Janice Doll, both of Turners Station; one sister, Mrs. Effie Woods, Louisville; 23 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8th at the Barnett-Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg. Rev Carl Rucker, officiated. Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery. Henry County Local May 10, 1984 Roger N. Baker, 69 of Ghent died Sunday, April 5th in Louisville, after a long illness. He was born in Wheatley, Kentucky; was member of the Ghent Baptist Church; and had owned and operated the Dollar General Store in Carrollton until he retired. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elston, Turners Station; one daughter, Miss Melanie Baker, Russellville; and one brother, William Scott Baker, Louisville. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8th at the E. P. Gentry Funeral Home, Carrollton.

the Carrollton I. O. O. F. Henry County Local April 9, 1981 Tommy Baker, age 68 of Pleasureville, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville. He was the son of the late Elzy Vernon and Mary Elizabeth Baker, a contractor, owner and operator of Edmond T. Baker Construction, Inc. and member of the Henry Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Bruner, Baker, Pleasureville; one daughter, Mrs. Keith (Evelyn) Soete, LaGrange; three sons: Tommy Baker, Burlington; Eddie Baker, Franklinton; and Keith Baker, Pleasureville; one sister, Rosemary Wood, Frankfort; 13 grandchildren and I great-granddaughter. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12 at Henry Christian Church. Brother Ed Berry officiated, assisted by Bro. Larry Montgomaery and Rev. Nick Coleman, pastors of Henry Christian Church, and Minister Ernie Perry of Southland Christian Church. Interment was in Pleasureville Cemetery. Eminence Fire Chief Arvie Landon Case, 43, and Mrs. Sammie Baldwin, 22, Gest,
were found dead in a parked automobile at 9:30 a.m., Christmas morning at the
entrance of the I. O. O. F. Corner William Prewitt attributed the deaths of Case and Mrs. Baldwin, both divorced, to carbon-monoxide poisoning. Eminence Police Chief John S. Johnson, who found the couple, said the windows on the car were closed and the motor was running. Corner Prewitt said the couple had been dead several hours. Funeral services for Case were conducted at the Eminence Christian Church at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, with the pastor, Rev. Elgin Smith, officiating. Burial was in the Grove Hill Cemetery at Shelbyville. He is survived by two daughters; Flora Ann Case and Edna Me Case, and two sons, Arvie Landon Case, Jr., and Kenneth B. Case, all of Eminence; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Case, Shelbyville; a sister, Mrs. Roy LaFollette, Bagdad; three brothers, John Case, Lillard Case and William Case, all of Shelbyville, and a grandfather, Steven Hazelwood, Shelbyville. Funeral services for Mrs. Baldwin were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Pilgrims Holiness Church in Carrollton. Henry County Local January 2, 1953 Mrs. Jessie Raisor Ball, age 85, died Monday, July 22, 1991 at the Lyndon Lane Nursing Home, Louisville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Ball. She was a native of Henry County. Survivors include one daughter, Patsy J. Callahan; two grandchildren, Steve and Gary Callahan; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be July 25, 1991 at 11 a.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg. Burial will be in the Campbellsburg Masonic Cemetery. Henry County Local July 24, 1991 Mildred Bell Ball, age 89, of Bedford died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at her residence. She was a native of Trimble County, the daughter of the late Doria and Doshie Richmond Robbins, a homemaker and member of Providence Baptist Church for 30 years. She is survived by three children: Vera Mae Kurtz, Aggie L. Smith and Hubert W. Ball, all of Bedford; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradford Elmo Ball; three children: John Henry Ball, Deward Houston Ball and Minnie Louise Ball; and seven brothers and sisters. Services were held Saturday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford. Rev. Doug Boyd officiated. Burial was in Campbellsburg Cemetery. Henry County Local July 7, 2004 Paul R. Ball, 73 of Louisville, died Saturday, April 16th at the Suburban Hospital, Louisville. He was formerly of Campbellsburg and a member of the Campbellsburg Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jessie Raisor Ball, Louisville; one daughter, Mrs. Pat Callahan, Louisville; two grandchildren, Steve and Gary Callahan, both of Louisville; and two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Black, LaGrange and Mrs. Doris Delaney, California. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, April 18th at the Barnett-Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg. Rev. Roger Winsett and Rev. Claude Long, officiated. Interment was in the Campbellsburg Cemetery. Henry County Local April 21, 1983 Robert E. Ball, Jr., 59, of Route 2, Bedford, died Friday, November 25th at the Methodist Hospital, Louisville. He was a native of Henry County and a retired stock worker at Belknap. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise Burrows Ball, Bedford; three brothers, Leroy Ball, Florida, Edwin Ball, Louisville and Phillip Ball, Lexington.

Henry County Local December 1, 1983 Ashley Ballard, age 19 of Pleasureville, died Thursday, August 18, 2005 in Sulphur as a result of an automobile accident. She was a 2004 graduate of Henry County High School. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Mildred (Alisa) Ashby, Franklinton; father, Tim Smith, Louisville; two sisters: Jamie Phelps, Lanesville, Indiana; Brianna Smith, Louisville; one brother, Matthew Ashby, Franklinton; and grandparents, Ronnie and Elaine Smith, Louisville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 21 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Jacky Newton, pastor of Franklinton Baptist Church officiated. Interment was in Franklinton Cemetery. Henry County Local August 24, 2005 Miss Carrie Ballard, 85, of New Castle, died Tuesday, February 17 at the United Medical Center, Shelbyville. She was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church, New Castle. She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Kledieth Dairs, Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Maggie Smith, New Castle, Mrs. Irvin (Mattie) Harris, New Castle, and Mrs. Mary Mack, Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

Baptist Church, New Castle. Rev. Meredith Trabue, pastor of Main Street
Baptist Church, New Castle, officiated. Interment was in the I. O. O. F. Henry County Local February 26, 1987 Ruby Verne Banta Balz, age 90 of Springfield, formerly of Louisville, died Saturday, July 15, 2005at Springfield Nursing and Rehab Center. She was a retired machinist for General Electric and member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She is survived by three daughters: Naomi Mikalas, Loomis, California; Mary Mercer, Bardstown; and Doris Stamper, Springfield; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Neale Banta and son, Eugene Banta. Cremation was chosen and interment will take place at a later date in Eminence Cemetery. Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of arrangements. Henry County Local July 27, 2005 Mrs. Lorene Willhite Banta, age 88, of Route 2, Pleasureville, died Thursday, February 13, 1992, at Jewish Hospital Shelbyville. She was a member of the Pleasureville Christian Church, a homemaker and landowner. Survivors are two daughters: Eloise Hall, Eminence; and Elaine Hall, Pleasureville; one granddaughter, Lou Hall Newman; and two grandsons, Wayne Ray Hall and Glen Allen Hall. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 17 at Sholar-Thomas Funeral Home. Rev. Jack Allen, Pleasureville Christian Church, officiated. Burial was in Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local February 19, 1992 James Lawrence Banta, 59, of Route 1, Waddy, died Saturday at the King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville. He retired from the United States Navy in 1966 after serving on active duty during World War II, Korean conflict, and Vietnam conflict. He is survived by his wife, Helen Cecilia Sambets Banta, Waddy; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Thomas, Sewell, New Jersey, Mrs. Patricia Ann Reese, Shelbyville, and Mrs. Elizabeth Bambill, Frankfort; one son, James J. Banta, Waddy; six grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Ellegood, Pleasureville and Mrs. Anna Mary Eldridge, Pleasureville; three brothers, Marvin Banta and Leroy Banta, both of Pleasureville and Lloyd Banta, Louisville. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, September 30 at St John’s Catholic Church, Eminence. Father John Lesousky, officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local October 3, 1985 Mr. Stephen Earl Banta, age 72, of Louisville, died Monday, May 8, 1989 at his residence after an illness. He was a native of Pleasureville, and a life-time member of the Chicka Saw Archery Club. Louisville. He was a member of the Kil Winning Masonic Lodge No. 506, Louisville, for 49 years and a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Louisville. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Mae Mefford Banta. Louisville; one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence R. (Linda) Brown, Louisville; three grandchildren, Craig Jones, Richmond, Laurie Deaver, Atlanta, Georgia and Kelli Pevlor, Louisville. Private funeral services were held Thursday, May 11 at the Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle. Dr. Clayton Klingenfus, pastor of the New Castle Christian Church, officiated. Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery. Henry County Local (NO date) Mrs. Birdie Barnes, 76 of Eminence, died Friday, April 10th at the Jewish Hospital, Louisville after an illness. She was a native of Shelby County. She is survived by one granddaughter, Miss Charlotte Wakefield, Eminence and one grandson, Barry Fisher, Eminence. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday, April 13th from Prewitt’s, New Castle. Dr. W. H. Goatley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Eminence, officiated. Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery. Henry County Local April 23, 1981 Charles Edward Barnes, 25 of Route 1 Eminence, died Tuesday, October 25 at the King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Barnes, Eminence; one brother, Chester Lee Barnes, Eminence; three sisters, Mrs. Jane Steverson, Frankfort, Mrs. Ida Barnes LaFollette, Shelbyville and Miss Janet Barnes, Eminence; his grandfather, Chester Adler, Shelbyville; great-grandmother, Mrs. Pearl Baxter. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Friday, October 28th at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Robert Couey, officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local November 3, 1983 James Turner Barnes, a member of one of the pioneer families of New Castle, died at his home here Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock. Mr. Barnes had been in bad health for some time and for a number of years was almost blind. Funeral services were held at the home, with burial in the New Castle Cemetery Wednesday afternoon.
