Louise Baugh Truman, age 92, of Pleasureville, died Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at Homestead Nursing Center. She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union, a homemaker, oldest member of Pleasureville Baptist Church, and daughter of the late George T. and Laura Sheehan Baugh. She is survived by one daughter, Ellen Truman Rynes, Eminence; two sons: Wendell T. Truman, Pleasureville; Harry L. Truman, Louisville; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey R. Truman, her daughter, Phyllis Truman West, and one brother. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Sholar Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Anderson and Rev. Mark Combs, Pleasureville Baptist Church officiated. Special music was provided by Todd and Cathy Toole. Burial was in Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local October 27, 2004 Graveside services were held Thursday, February 24 at the Pleasureville Cemetery for the infant daughter of Eddie and Lora Baxter of Bagdad. Other survivors are the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mahuron, Louisville and Mr. and Mrs. William Baxter, Eminence. Henry County Local March 4, 1983 Debbie Adcock Baxter passed away at age 44 on Saturday, November 13, 1999 at LaGrange, Kentucky. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Todd G. Woodward officiated. Interment in the New Castle Cemetery. Funeral program from Prewitt Funeral Home Everett Carter Baxter, age 68 of Turners Station died Friday, June 24, 2005 at University of Louisville Hospital. He was the son of the late Harvey and Pearl Lindell Baxter, a tool and die machinist and member of Port Royal Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty Yvonne Ransdell Baxter, Port Royal; two daughters: Mrs. Joel (Cindy) Smith, Nashville, Tennessee; Sandy Baxter, Port Royal; two sons: Barry Baxter, Turners Station; Garry Baxter, New Castle; two sisters: Susie Payton, Port Royal; Lucy Quire, Pleasureville; two brothers: Dennis Baxter, Campbellsurg; Harvey Baxter, Jr., Pleasureville; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 27 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Carl Rucker, pastor of Port Royal Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in Port Royal Cemetery. Henry County Local June 29, 2005 Harvey S. Baxter, Sr., age 90 of Route 1, Turners Station, died Friday, April 1st at his residence. He was a native of Shelby County; a retired farmer; and member of the Port Royal Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Lindell Baxter, Route 1, Turners Station; three daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Lillian) Wilson, Eminence, Mrs. Cecil (Lucy) Quire, Pleasureville and Mrs. David (Susie) Payton, Turners Station; three sons, Dennis Baxter, Campbellsburg, Harvey Baxter, Jr., Smithfield and Everett Baxter, Turners Station; one sister, Mrs. Hallie Harlow, Frankfort; one Brother, Celester Baxter, Bethlehem; 31 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Henry County Local August 23, 1984 Neppie Anslie Berry Baxter, age 100, of Louisville, formerly of Henry County, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Lillian Harris Berry, retired after 30 years as a teacher for various schools in Port Royal, Lockport, Elkhorn in Frankfort, Sulphur and LaGrange. She was a member of Frankfort Baptist Church and Worthville Chapter of the Eastern Star. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Al Cleve (Evelyn Dean) Davis, Mt. Washington; Mrs. Roy Leon (Jean) Ricketts, Louisville; two sons: Morris Baxter, Jr., and wife Fran, Rockville, MD; Robert E. Baxter and wife Dorothy, Louisville; eight grandchildren: Stacey Dawn Wilson, Roy Michael Ricketts, Becky Baxter Ricketts, Robert Wayne Baxter, Robin Carol Pullias, Laura Louise Baxter, Anslie Jean Baxter, Helen Adele Southworth, and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Baxter and one grandson, Robert Gerald Baxter. Funeral services will be today (Wednesday, May 31) at 2 p.m. at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Henry County Local May 31, 2006 Martha Ellen Gividen was born August 1, 1855, and was married to Pryor Hayden, November 26, 1873. To this union was born two children, William and Scottie, who still survive. After the death of Mr. Hayden, she was married to Pascal Baxter, March 23, 1887. She departed this life February 12, 1904, being 48 years, 4 months and 11 days old. Mrs. Baxter had been afflicted with rheumatism for thirteen years, from which she had suffered constantly every day. She was a native of Henry County, the widow of the former Clarence Beckley. She is survived by two sons, Clarence Beckley, Frankfort and Paul Beckley, Lexington; one sister, Mrs. Jim Newby, Sulphur; three stepchildren, Sam Beckley, Silver Springs, Maryland, Ida Mae Hayden, Eminence, and James R. Beckley, Turner Station; five step-grandchildren; and one grandson. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 1st at Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort. He was the son of the late Joe and Mary Edith Walker Beckley, Baptist by faith and a farmer. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Montgomery Beckley, Pleasureville; one son, Larry Joe Beckley, Pleasureville; four daughters: Stephanie Stewart, Cropper; Robin Stephens, Gamaliel; Donna Reardon, Owenton; Jessica Clark, New Castle; Three brothers: Joe Beckley, Jr., Trimble County; Wayne Beckley and Bobby Beckley, both of Pleasureville; three sisters: Wanda B. Maddox and Jean Wilson, both of Cincinnati, Sue Allen, Pleasureville; nine grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a member of Cropper Christian Church and a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife, Roselyn Dunavan Beckley, Pleasureville; three sons: Darrell Beckley, Terry Beckley and Bill Beckley, all of Pleasureville; three daughters: Deane Doyle, Shelbyville; Leta Roberts, Elmburg; and Deba Jesse, Waddy; one brother, Joe Beckley, Pleasureville; one sister, Mae Workman, Marysville, Ohio; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Henry County Local (No date) Wilma Tingle Beckley, age 82 of Campbellsburg, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange. She was a member of Turners Station Christian Church and daughter of the late Roy Bryan and Clara Aldridge Tingle. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jerry C. (Debra) Briscoe, Lawrenceburg; two sons: James Coleman Beckley, Louisville; Keith Beckley, Centerfield; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Beckley, two sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Beetum, Florence and Ray Beetum, Milburn; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Henry County Local April 11, 1974 Raymond Beetem Raymond Hart Beetem, age 76, of Alexandria, died Saturday, March 26 at Northern Kentucky Hospice. He was retired from Don’s Crankshaft in Cincinnati. He is survived by one son, Raymond Beetem, Jr., Peach Grove; three daughters: Diane Schweitzer and Georgia Barry, both of Alexandria; Terri Johnson, Crestview; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Ruth Perry Beetem. Funeral services will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 30) at Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg. Begley, age 71, of Pleasureville, formerly of Winchester, died Saturday, March 31, 2001 at Vencor Hospital, Louisville after a long illness. He was a native of Powell County, the son of the late C. B. and Ethel Evans Begley, a retired employee of Louisville General Electric for 30 years, and a member of First Church of God, Winchester. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Kerr Begley, Pleasureville; one daughter, Mrs. Fletcher (Sharon) Shouse, Eminence; one son, Larry W. Begley, Louisville; four sisters: ruth McElro, Winchester; Emmajean Lucas, Warren, Michigan; Mrs. Beckner (Frances) Shimfessel, Pilot View; and Mrs. Liston (Faye) Blackman, Clay City; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Bell, age 94 of Eminence, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 in LaGrange. She was a member of Monterey Baptist Church and daughter of the late Leonard Wyatt and Polly Ann Tate Parker. She is survived by two sons: George W. Bell, Eminence and A. J. Bell, Pleasureville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Willard Bell and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home. She was a native of Smithfield, formerly of Hernando, Mississippi, an employee of Coors Brewery, Memphis, Tennessee and attended Robersonville United Methodist Church, Robersonville, Mississippi. She is survived by her husband, Sonny Bell, Memphis; two daughters: Mrs. Kim Hammersmith, Memphis; Carrie Chancellor, Beckville, Texas; two sons: Danny Luell McClain, South Haven, Mississippi; and Jerry Statler, Memphis; her parents: Mr. and Mrs. Luell Hollar, Hernando, Mississippi; three sisters: her twin, Mrs. Linda Faye Webb, Hernando, Mississippi; Mrs. Marilyn Hirsh, Charlotte, North Carolina; and Mrs. Janet Froyen, West Palm Beach, Florida; her grandmother, Mrs. Lula Price Roberts and step-grandmother, Mrs. Pauline Bond Hollar, both of Eminence. Henry County Local March 15, 1995 Ms. Irene Bell, age 81, of Berry, Kentucky died September 15, 1991 at Humana Hospital, Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Edward Grogan and Effie Wagner and was a fifty year member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Kelat, Kentucky. Survivors include her husband, Piercy Bell, Lexington; one son, Leonard Bell, Harrison County; one daughter, Wilma Hutcherson, Frankfort; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held September 18 at the Fairview Baptist Church in Kelat. Rev. Ronnie Angel officiated. Burial was in the Pythian Grove Cemetery in Harrison County. Henry County Local September 25, 1991 Mrs. Nannie Bell, 83, widow of the late John Henry Bell, died Saturday, February 5, at her residence near Elmberg, after a long illness. A native of Shelby County, she was the daughter of Hiram and Susan Katherine Bell. She lived all her married life on the farm where she died. The farm, at Chestnut Grove, has been in the Bell family for 74 years. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Church of Cropper. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Isafena Harper, Mrs. Lloyd Roberts and Mrs. Fannie Sewell and eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at the Elmberg Christian Church at 2:; p.m., Monday, with Rev. E. J. Bruce officiating. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local February 18, 1949 Reed Bell, 79 of Frankfort, died Monday, April 6th at his home. He was a retired engineer with the State Highway Department. His wife was the late Rebecca Henderson of Bethlehem. He is survived by one son, David Bell, Frankfort; one daughter, Mrs. Sandra Hill, Waddy; two grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Eura Vance, Frankfort. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 9th at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Kenneth Shouse, pastor of the Shelby Christian Church, officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local April 23, 1981 William H. Bell, 57, Mayor of Campbellsburg, died Friday, February 10th at his residence. He was born in Harrison County; was self employed as a manufacture representative; a member of the Campbellsburg Christian Church; an Elder of the Campbellsburg Christian Church; a member of the Campbellsburg Lions Club; had received the Outstanding Citizen of Campbellsburg Award; and had been Mayor of Campbellsburg, since 1974, except for two years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Cavinall Bell, Campbellsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Vicky B. Posey, Campbellsburg; two grandchildren, Beth and Betsy Posey, Campbellsburg; his father, Charles A. Bell, Jr., Berry, Kentucky; and one sister, Doll B. Lenox, Berry, Kentucky. Funeral services were held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 12th at the Barnett-Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg. Rev. She was a member of the Elmberg Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a grandson, Lee J. Belwood. Survivors include one son, M. L. Belwood, Pleasureville; three daughters, Patsy Brown, Pleasureville; Carolyn Chesher, Shelbyville; Bobbye Brown, Frankfort; six grandchildren, Diana Dell Eldridge, James Burns Brown, Patty Lee Brown, Robbie Lee Belwood, Kathryn Mae Brown, Shawn Brown; four great-grandchildren, Melissa Eldridge, Jennifer Sue Eldridge, Maggie Belwood, Jake Belwood; and one niece, Barbara Kaye Hasfurder. Henry County Local October 9, 1991 Martha Batts Belwood passed away at the age of 75 on Friday, February 14, 2003 at Shelbyville, Kentucky. Services were at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Carl Rucker officiated, assisted by Rev. Kurt Ellis and Steve Thurman. Henry County Local April 13, 2005 Bobby Gene Bennett, age 47, of Taylorsville, formerly of Bagdad, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at Valley View Health Care and Rehabilitation Center of Taylorsville. He was a former truck driver for Goodman Brothers, a U. S. Air Force Veteran, member of the Bagdad Baptist Church, and son of the late William Goebel, Sr., and Edna Lee Nelson Bennett. He is survived by a step-daughter, Hope Reese, LaGrange; and four sisters: Nannie Jordan, Elizabethtown; Ann Chism, Defoe; Shelia Stivers, Bagdad; and Connie Stivers, Waddy. There will be a memorial service held at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Hall-Taylor Funeral Home. Mr. Bibb formerly of Pleasureville was the son of the late W. E. and Ella Shuck Bibb. He was a member of the Suburban Christian Church. He had been living in the Louisville area for 38 years. Bibb, formerly of Pleasureville, died at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, at the Kentucky Baptist Hospital in Louisville. He lived at 2502 Valetta Road, Louisville. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Griffin Bibb; one son, Thomas M. Bibb II; one sister, Mrs. Lewis King, and a brother, Roscoe L. Bibb. Great is the shock to all and deep is the sorrow in a multitude of bosoms. His death occurred about 1:40 o:clock Thursday morning, and was due ro pneumonia complicated with uremic poisoning. He had not been sick many days. Mr. Bibb was a son of Mrs. E. F. Bibb, a brother of Mrs. Ida Figg. His wife who is a daughter of Mr. Frank Shuck survives with three sons and I daughter, the oldest a son 16 years of age. Mr. Bibb was a member of the Methodist church And was a prominent Mason. In politics he was Republican in all relations he was true and faithful. His age was 42 years. Mr. Bibb was truly a self-made man. Most of his life he followed mercantile pursuits first as a clerk, afterwards as a member of the firm Bryant & Bibb and later a dealer in lumber and coal. The funeral will take place today from the local Methodist church. Services by Rev. P. C. Eversole. The Masonic fraternity will have charge of the obsequies and pay every possible honor to his memory. Burial at Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local January 20, 1911 Mr. Clyde Bickers, age 94, of Eminence died Saturday, January 2, 1993 at the Green Valley Health Care Center, Carrollton. He was a native of Owen County, formerly of Campbellsburg, a retired farmer, a member of the Eminence United Methodist Church for 30 years and Campbellsburg Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Tingle Bickers, Eminence; one daughter-in-law, Omega Jervis, Eminence; one foster son, Ecra Jervis, Louisville; one grandson, Gary Jervis, Louisville; and several nieces and nephews. Henry County Local March 22, 1984 Winnie "Big Winnie" Johnson was born in 1839 and died September 14, 1888 at the age of 49. Her obsequies took place from her late home on East Street in Baltimore, Maryland, at 4 o:clock yesterday afternoon. "Big Winnie" died of fatty degeneration of the heart at 11:30 p.m. Monday. She was well-known to the public as the prize fat colored woman in the world, tipping the scales at 849 pounds. Evans and Spence, the undertakers who had charge of the funeral, experienced the greatest difficulty in preparing the body for burial. They searched every establishment in the city to find a coffin large enough, but without success, and finally they were compelled to order a special box from Maryland Burial Case Company. It took 20 pallbearers to lift "Big Winnie" and the coffin. Winnie Johnson was born in Henry County, Kentucky, in 1839. As a child she gave no signs of attaining her wonderfully unusual size. She was born in a cabin on either the Boyd Clubb farm or the farm of E. M. Bryant, near Franklinton. When she was 15 years of age she married a man of her own race by the name of Johnson, and when 20 years of age she began to grow large, until Monday night the time of her death, she had amassed the enormous weight of 849 pounds. There was no bed big enough for her, so she slept on the floor. She was the mother of ten children of whom three survived. Her husband died about six years ago (1882), and soon after she contracted with a showman to go on exhibition, and has since then traveled over a considerable portion of this country. He was a retired employee of Boone Gardiner Nursery, Louisville, for over 30 years. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jim (Geneva) Cinnamond, Frankfort and Mrs. Mary Reinhardt, Coppell, Texas; two brothers, Ben Birch, New Castle and Lee Birch, Eminence; several nieces and nephews. Henry County Local August 14, 1986 Mrs. Kate Breckenridge Bishop, 83, pioneer Louisville children's welfare worker and widow of the late Harry Bishop, bank president, died in flames of her home at 1953 Bardstown Road, early Monday morning. She was an aunt of Hunt Jones, Eminence. Mrs. Bishop organized the Children's Protective Association, fore-runner of the present day Children's Agency, and she aided in setting up the Theodore Ahrens Trade School, as a part of her long-time effort in behalf of young people. Two other nephews also survive, Dr. Lafon Jones, Flint, Michigan, and Breckenridge Jones, Montclair, New Jersey, and five great-nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Henry County Local February 18, 1949 Mrs. Melvina Bishop, 72 years old, who has been ill for some time at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. E. Lee, near Vance, passed away on Sunday morning at 2 o:clock. Her remains were taken to English Tuesday where her funeral was preached at the Christian Church by her pastor, Rev. E. M. Armitage, of the Worthville M. E. Church of which she was a member. She is survived by 2 children, Mrs. Lee and Harry Bishop, also four brothers, Rile, James, Down and Robert Hicks. Son of the late Price Barnett, Sr., and Reta Jones Barnett, he was a farmer, salesman and tobacco warehouse owner. J. B. was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the New Castle Christian Church. He was preceded in death by four sisters. He is survived by his wife Sue E. Barnett, Turners Station; one daughter, Thelma Louise Douglas and her husband Steve, Franklinton; one son, John Dudley Barnett and his wife, Glenna, Campbellsburg; one brother, Price Barnett, Jr., Eminence; one sister, Thelma Elam, Nashville; six grandchildren: Mrs. Carrie Smith, Mrs. Kristin Ware, Kylen Douglas, Brad Barnett, Drew Barnett and Micah Douglas; and two great-grandchildren: Nic Kavanaugh and Jackson Ware.
