Her death occurred at her home in Turners Station, at 5 p.m., March 2, 1907, of lagrippe and the infirmities of age, when she was 90 years, 1 month and 2 days old. She lived in the presidency of all the presidents except the first three, for when Mr. Madison went out of office , March 4, 1817, she was a babe of 37 days. What an era of change, vicissitude and development! Her maiden name was Bowen, and her mothers name was Ball, the latter having been a cousin of George Washington certainly a most honorable lineage. She came to Henry County, KY with her parents in 1827, a child of ten years, and lived here during the remainder of her life. In April 1853 she was married to L. S. Chilton, and two children were born to them, both of whom are living in this county C. Edwin Chilton, the post master and railroad agent at Turners Station, and Mrs. Melissa Mosgrove of the same town. For many years she had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, the exact date of her union with it not being known, but she had the distinction of being the first person ever baptized by the late Rev. Clark M. Riley, who was long in the ministry. Her days on earth were an illustration of perfect patience and of constant alignment with Gods laws as she understood them. These virtues stood out the more conspicuously by reason of the very pathetic fact that during the last dozen years or more it was denied her to look upon the faces of loved ones or the beauties of nature. She was blind. Yet she murmured not, for she saw with the eye of faith the home beautiful in the celestial world, where all vision is clear and friends are glorified. A funeral sermon containing much appropriate thought and affording great comfort, was preached by Rev. L. M. Theobald, of Campbellsburg, Monday, March 4, at 11 a.m. after which the remains were interred in the Port Royal Cemetery. Procuring help near by they carried the body to Dr. A. G. Ellistons a few hundred yards away. The Doctor found that the neck had been broken and a hole had been made in the skull. Late in the afternoon they met in Shannons Drug Store and passed some words , when Bales fired at Estes with a pistol, making a skin wound on his body. According to the information that the Local has, Estes thereupon disarmed Bales and shot the latter with his own pistol. The bullet entered in front and lodged in the spine. The immediate effect was to paralyze the body below the wound. The wounded man was carried into Capt. Elisha Woods residence where he received every possible attention. Two or three Doctors were summoned, but they could not save him. He died Saturday morning about 5 oclock. Estes gave himself up to Deputy Sheriff A. B. Clements next day after the shooting and gave bond. After young Bales death Estes was rearrested and put in jail where he now is. An examining trial was begun Tuesday before Judge B. F.
