Mrs. Edith Bush Dowden, 84, died Monday, April 11 in Shelbyville. She was formerly of Franklinton and a member of the Berea Christian Church. She is survived by one daughter: Mrs. James (Meta) Casey, Shelbyville; one granddaughter: Elberta Casey, Lexington; one sister: Mrs. Mary Ethel Gardner, Shelbyville; and one brother: W. A. Bush, Franklinton. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 13 at the Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Rev. Jim Collins, pastor of the First Christian Church in Shelbyville, officiated. Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery. Henry County Local April 14, 1983 J. C. Dowden, Jr., 63, of Pleasureville, died Wednesday, January 2nd at Shelbyville. He was a WWII Veteran volunteer in the U. S. Air Force, serving five years in England and the U. S. He graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture in 1949 and was a farmer. He taught Veterans in Agriculture for two years. He was appointed Postmaster of the Pleasureville office in 1965 and served there until his retirement in August, 1983. He was a member and an Elder of the Pleasureville Christian Church. He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Zada Dowden, Pleasureville; one son: Jimmie K. Dowden, a student at Transylvania University; one daughter: Mrs. Barry (Susan) Wainscott, Middletown; his mother: Mrs. Judy Dowden and one brother: John Ingels Dowden. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 5th at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Christian Franklin officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local January 10, 1985 A. J. Downey, age 58, of Bedford, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange. He is the son of the late William Isham and Martha Newman Downey. He is survived by one son: Bradley J. Downey, Bedford; four sisters: Virgie Downey, Zelma Hambrick and Shirley Roberts, all of Bedford and Peggy Garrett, Louisville; one half-sister: Kathrine Aldridge, Bedford; one brother: Elton Downey, Bedford; companion Donna Penick, Bedford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one hal-brother and one sister. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8 at Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford. Brother Bobbie Wade officiated. Burial was in the Bedford I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Henry County Local April 13, 2005 Billy Darrell �Fats� Downey, age 64 of Campbellsburg, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at his home. He was a former employee of the Ellis Motor Co. and the Radcliffe Funeral Home. He retired from the auto industry was a member of the Port Royal Baptist Church, the Kosair Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite, Lebanon Lodge #98 F&M and was a Kentucky Colonel. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife: Jean Downey, Campbellsburg; one daughter: Mrs. Chester (Kimberly) Smith; one granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 18 at Ransdell Funeral Home in Campbellsburg. Interment will be in Hendersonville, North Carolina this Saturday. Downey and Donald R. Downey, all of LaGrange, Jerry W. Downey, Robbie Downey and Bobby Downey, all of New Castle; one daughter: Ruth A. Downey, New Castle; his mother: Mrs. Clyde Downey, New Castle; one sister: Mrs. Rufus (Novella) Snook, Simpsonville; two brothers: Everett Downey and James Downey, both of New Castle and three grandchildren. She was a native of Henry County and a retired machine operator at Middletown Manufacturing Company. She is survived by her husband: Curtis Downey, Shelbyville; two daughters: Prs. Patsy Hall and Mrs. Diane Collins, both of Shelbyville; three grandchildren; her mother: Mrs. Bessie Perry and step-father: Roy Perry, Shelbyville. Henry County Local August 18, 1983 Mr. Eli Downey, Sr., age 84, of Pleasureville, died Sunday, November 15, 1992 at his residence. He was a member of the Franklinton Baptist Church and a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife: Laura Elizabeth Yates Downey, Pleasureville; one son: Eli Downey, Jr., New Castle; one daughter: Eva M. Chandler, Shelbyville; two brothers: Bennie Downey, Elmburg and Charlie Downey, Frankfort; five sisters: Effie Clark and Dale Tingle, Franklinton, Margaret Coombs, Pleasureville, Ellen Peyton, Frankfort, and Mildred Wainscott, Eminence; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Henry County Local November 17, 1992 Estil (Butler) Downey, 78 of Lexington, died Wednesday, June 12th at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Lexington. He was formerly of New Castle, a retired house painter and Henry County Jailer, and a Navy veteran of WWII. He is survived by one son: Carroll G. Downey, Louisville; one brother: Lester Downey, Louisville; three grandchildren: Mrs. Lisa Eubank, Crestwood, Mrs. Valerie Kohler, Laguna Nieguel, California and Raven Downey, Louisville; two great-grandchildren: Amber Eubank and Aaron Eubank, both of Crestwood. She was a member of the New Castle United Methodist Church for 75 years. He was a native of Henry County, the son of the late Jess and Fannie Tingle Downey, retired after 27 years at the Kentucky State Reformatory, a retired farmer, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the English Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Jones Downey, Port Royal; one son: Paul Keith Downey, Pleasureville; two daughters: Regina Michelle Miskell and Marilyn Denise Moore, both of Port Royal; one brother: Ronald Downey, Port Royal; one sister: Lorena McCullough, Shively and eight grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, John Tom Downey; twelve children; forty grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren several great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas Funeral Home in Pleasureville. The Rev. Victor Peetom officiated. Burial was in the Franklinton Cemetery. Henry County Local January 22, 1976 Funeral services for Oel Lee Downey, formerly of New Castle, who died January 8 at a Naval Hospital in San Diego, California, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shannon-Prewitt Funeral Home in new Castle. Judge J. Gano Herndon officiated. Burial was in the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville. Mr. Downey had served twenty-one years in the Navy before his retirement due to illness. Henry County Local February 18, 1982 Burial rites for Mrs. Rebecca Downey, 80 years of age, were held at the Franklinton Cemetery, Tuesday morning, January 24 at eleven o�clock. Mrs. Downey is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Preston Shuck, Lockport and Mrs. Alec Wood and three sons: John T., Leonard and George. She made her home with her son John T. Downey. She was ill only a short time, having the flu which was followed by pneumonia. He was formerly of New Castle; a retired highway and dam builder; a Mason and Shriner and a member of the New Castle United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Lorene Giles Downey, LaGrange; his mother: Mrs. Eva L. Downey, New Castle; two sisters: Mrs. Leona Fitzgerald, Applevalley, California and Mrs. Edmund (Josephine) Smith, LaGrange and one brother: Joe Downey, Mission, Texas. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 4th from Prewitt�s, New Castle. Rev. Vernon Thwaites, pastor of the New Castle United Methodist Church, officiated. Downey, 59, of Defoe, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 1973 at the Veterans Hospital, Louisville. Survivors include four sisters: Nancy Smith, Pleasureville, Grace O�Nan and Cecelia Boothby, Defoe, and Mrs. Tex Sloan, Jeffersontown. Other survivors include one brother: Robert Downey, Frankfort; and his mother: Mrs. Flora McGuire, Defoe. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 1973 at the Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Interment was in the Defoe Cemetery. Patriot Statesman (Newspaper) December 13, 1973 Shirley A. Downey, age 62 of Elmburg, died Friday, December 30, 2005. She is survived by her husband: Bennie Bush Downey, Elmburg; one daughter: Laurie Downey, Franklin, NH; one son: Kenneth Downey, Cabot, AK; one brother: Gene Williams, LaGrange; four grandchildren; one uncle and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on Monday, January 2, at Franklinton Baptist Church. Rev. Jacky Newton and Laurie Downey officiated. Cremation was by The Cremation Society of Kentucky. A burial Service will be held at a later time. Henry County Local January 11, 2006 Mrs. Sue Downey, 94, of Pleasureville, died Thursday, February 2nd (1984) at Shelbyville. She is survived by one grandson: Albert O�Brien, Pleasureville; three great-grandchildren and one sister: Mrs. Alice Travis, Mt. Washington. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4th at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Father John Lesousky officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local February 9, 1984 Tiffany May-Irene Downey, infant daughter of Ricky Ray Downey and Shelia Miller, Port Royal, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange. She is survived by her parents; two brothers: John Downey, Eminence and Brent Moore, Jr., Port Royal; one sister: Samantha Moore, Port Royal; maternal grandparents: Eddie and Bonnie Smith, Port Royal and Sharon and Ralph Bunting, Ohio; paternal grandparents: Maudie and Wesley Morrison, Eminence; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Henry County Local March 23, 2005 Tom Downey, 72, of near Lockport died of a heart attack last Thursday at the home of a neighbor, Dock Chisholm. He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Bertha McGuire Downey; three daughters: Mrs. Edith Kelley, Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Mary Lee Tingle, Bethlehem and Mrs. Anna M. Lyons, Louisville; two sons: Floyd Downey, Defoe and Claude Downey, Louisville; and twelve grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Berea Christian Church. The Rev. Roud Shaw, Pleasureville, officiated. Burial was in the Pleasureville Cemetery. Henry County Local July 20, 1956 Walter Downey, 78, of Peru, Indiana, died Monday, February 18th at Frankfort, Indiana. He was formerly of Henry County and a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Sophie Downey, Peru, Indiana; one son: George Downey, Peru, Indiana; one granddaughter; four brothers: Eli Downey, Franklinton, Sam Downey, Bethlehem, Charlie Downey, Frankfort and Bennie Downey, Waddy; five sisters: Mrs. Effie Clark and Mrs. Dale Tingle, both of Franklinton, Mrs. Many Payton, Frankfort, Mrs. Margaret Combs, Eminence and Mrs. Mildred Bowman, Bloomington, Indiana. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 21st at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Gary West officiated. Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery. Henry County Local January 10, 1985 At 8 o�clock Wednesday night death claimed John W. Downs, of this city. He had been in a precarious condition for only a few days. However, he had suffered more or less with something like Bright�s disease for several years. The immediate cause of death was erysipelas which came upon his face a week before. It was very malignant and seems to have reached his brain. These complications all united in hastening the end. Aged only 39 years, his untimely end causes much regret, for he had a large number of friends; indeed, we truthfully say he was very popular. Mr. Downs had a very cordial and engaging manner and was true to his friends. He had excellent business capacity and was ambitious and enterprising, notwithstanding the struggle he had to make with a severe disease trough long years of his life time. The nearest mourners are the aged mother; a brother: James M. Downs and a sister: Mrs. Nora Willhoite, the latter living near Shelbyville. The father died several years ago leaving the sons to be the architects of their own fortunes and the protectors of their mother and sister. The interment took place today at 2 o�clock in the Eminence Cemetery. �After many a vanished year hath flown� there will be flowers of friendship strewn upon the grave of happy-hearted John Downs. Henry County Local February 12, 1904 Mrs. Estelle Watkins Doyle, 55, owner and manager of the Doyle Transfer Company, Carrollton, died Saturday night in the Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida. She had been convalescing from a recent illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Harmon there. For the past twenty-one years Mrs. Doyle had been owner and active manager of the transfer company. She was chairman of the women�s division of the Carroll County Democratic organization. She was a member of the Methodist Church where she had taught a Sunday School class for 25 years. She is survived by her husband, Ira Thomas Doyle; another daughter: Mrs. Dorothy D. Wood, Carrollton; three sons: Eugene H. Doyle, Louisville, Thomas D. Doyle and Robert M. Doyle, both of Carrollton; two sisters: Mrs. James N. Claxon, Louisville and Mrs. Amos Tingle, Okolona; three brothers: Eugene H. Watkins and Hays T. Watkins, both of New Castle and Wilson P. Watkins, Fern Creek. Funeral Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Carrollton Methodist Church. Burial was in the Carrollton Cemetery. Henry County Local August 18, 1950 Mary C. �Rannie� Doyle of Shelby County died unexpectedly on Wednesday November 25, 1992 at Norton Hospital, Louisville. The 76-year-old native of Henry County was the daughter of the late Maris Sarrls and Benjamin William Cubbage. Besides her husband, Robert H. Doyle of Finchville, she is survived by a brother, James C. Cubbage, Pleasureville. The funeral was Monday, November 30, at Shannon Funeral Home with Dr. Wayne Ward and Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville. Henry County Local December 9, 1992 Mrs. Christine P. Drane, 70, of Eminence died Friday at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. She was an active member of the Eminence Christian Church and also a member of the Bland Ballard Chapter DAR. She was e former member of the Eminence Literary Club. Henry County Local May 21, 1970 Mrs. Dora Kathryn Brewer Drane, 76 of New Castle, died suddenly Saturday, June 18th at her residence. She was a Tax Consultant and a member of the New Castle United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons: Eugene Brewer, New Castle and William B. Brewer, Louisville; one brother: John L. Williams, Paintsville, Kentucky; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 20th from Prewitt�s, New Castle. Rev. Henry County Local June 23, 1983 Mrs. Maude Pearce Drane, formerly of Henry County, widow of Henry H. Drane, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Thompson, Madisonville, with whom she had made her home for the past few years. She was a member of the Madisonville Baptist Church. Mrs. Drane was the author of �History of Henry County� which was published in 1948. She was a native of Henry County, a daughter of the late Captain Isaac and Annie Nash Johnston. Surviving besides her daughter are a son: Boswell G. Pearce, Ukiah, California; a sister: Mrs. J. S. Price, Pleasureville; one brother: J. E. Johnston, Pleasureville; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Prewitt Funeral Home in New Castle. The Rev James O. Gibson, Stamping Ground, former pastor of the Pleasureville Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery. Henry County Local May 4, 1961 Robert Henry Drane, 78 of New Castle, died Tuesday, May 3rd at the Baptist East Hospital, Louisville, after an illness. He was a retired farmer; a native of Shelby County; and a member of the New Castle United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Dora Kathryn Brewer Drane, New Castle; one sister: Mrs. Virginia Logan, Shelbyville; one brother: Jack Drane, Route 1, Eminence and several nieces and nephews. Henry County Local May 12, 1983 W. S. Drane, age 65, died at his home at Smithfield, Tuesday night, December 31, at 9 p.m. with scarlet fever and pneumonia. He was ill only a few days. Mr. Drane has been a resident of Smithfield most of his life. (Nana) Duggins, age 74, of Campbellsburg went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on Thursday, November 18, 2004. She was preceded in death and welcomed home by her husband of 53 years, Oliver William Duggins, Jr. She was also preceded in death by a son, William Dean Duggins and a grandson, David A. Winburn. She was a retired beautician and a life time homemaker. She worshipped at the Family Worship Center in Carrollton. He love and guidance will be missed. Duncan, 90, of Louisville, died Monday, June 10th at the Christopher East Home, Louisville. She was the former Ruby L. Thurman and a native of Carroll County. Mrs. Ruby, as she was affectionately known, was an evangelistic singer and for many years she sang at many Henry County churches and served as Music Director at revival meetings. She was a long-time resident of LaGrange, where she was a member of the DeHaven Memorial Baptist Church. When she moved to Louisville, she united with the St. Matthews Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Margaret Ricketts and Mrs. Betty Cunningham, both of Louisville; one sister: Mrs. Lillian Biggers, Cincinnati, Ohio and one grandson. Henry County Local April 29, 1982 Mrs. Laura Dutton passed away at 9 o�clock Tuesday evening, at her home in Pendleton, after an eight month illness caused by paralysis. She was 55 years of age and is survived by one son, Walter Dutton and wife and a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Clark of Lockport and a brother, Mr. George Steiner of Pendleton. The funeral was held at the Methodist Church with burial at Smithfield. Henry County Local April 19, 1929 C. Allen Duvall, Jr., age 75 of Roanoke, Virginia died Saturday, July 9, 2005. He was a retired veterinarian. He is survived by four children: Donna, Charles, Allen and Ashley; one brother: David Duvall, Louisville and two grandchildren.
