Bland B. Elston

 

Bland B. Elston, the venerable father of J. B. Elston, died at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. C. P. Manchester, near this place about 6 o�clock Thursday morning, October 14, lacking only a few days of being 84 years old.  Death was due to the infirmities of age.  He is survived by the son and several daughters.  Mr. Elston, in his younger days, was an active and successful business man.  He was reared a farmer but had engaged in merchandising and in trading.  He had a good mind and was a man of strong convictions.  In politics he was a life-long democrat and an earnest worker for the success of his party.  He had filled several official stations in Carroll County.

 

The funeral takes place today from the residence.  Burial will be at Campbellsburg.

Chester B. Elston

 

Chester B. Elston, 85, of New Castle, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, October 14th at the home of his son, Chester T. Elston.  He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mt Gilead Methodist Church.  He was also a former Henry County Magistrate.

 

Other survivors are two grandons: Ben Elston, New Castle and Bobby Elston, LaGrange; and two great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Prewitt�s, New Castle.  Rev. Larry Hawkins officiated.  Burial was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Chester Elston

 

Chester Turner Elston, 67 of Route 1, Campbellsburg, died Friday, August 5th at the Jewish Hospital, Louisville, after a long illness.  He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mt. Gilead Methodist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Marion Ford Elston, Route 1, Campbellsburg; two sons: Bobby T. Elston, LaGrange and Ben A. Elston, New Castle and three grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 7th from Prewitt�s, New Castle.  Rev. Barclay Brown, pastor of the New Castle United Methodist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Della Elston

 

Mrs. Della Long Elston, 29 of New Castle, died Wednesday, May 22 at her residence after an illness. 

 

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William B. Long, New Castle; three sisters: Mrs. Edward (Phyllis) Mitchell, Pleasureville, Mrs. Mary Ann Wentworth, New Castle and Mrs. Walter (Rosa) Wentworth, Campbellsburg; one brother: William B. Long, Jr., New Castle; six stepchildren and six step grandchildren.

 

Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24 from Prewitt�s, New Castle, with Bro. Burl Shane of LaGrange, officiating.  The body was cremated.

Mariam Ford Elston

 

Mrs. Mariam Ford Elston, 69, of Route 1, Campbellsburg, died suddenly Sunday, June 10 at the Jewish Hospital, Louisville.  She was a member of the New Castle United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by two sons: Bobby T. Elston, LaGrange and Ben A. Elston, New Castle; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12 from Prewitt�s, New Castle.  Rev. Barclay Brown, pastor of the New Castle United Methodist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Larry Hawkins, pastor of the Pendleton Methodist Church.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

G. H. England

 

G. H. England, 100, former principal of the Campbellsburg School, died last Tuesday at the Owen County Memorial Hospital.  England served as principal at Campbellsburg from 1932 until his retirement in 1959.

 

England was born on September 14, 1888.  In 1917, England was married while a principal at a school in Bradfordsville, Kentucky.  In 1927, England received his bachelor�s degree from the University of Kentucky.  Later, in 1932, England and his wife moved to Campbellsburg where he assumed principal duties.  In 1938, England received his master�s degree in education from the University of Kentucky.

 

Not only was England noted for his academic standards while an administrator at Campbellsburg, he was also responsible for organizing the community cannery in 1942.  Even though England received several very good offers for career advancement, he chose to remain in Campbellsburg.

 

England was honored in September 1988 for his outstanding contributions to education by his family, friends, former students and teachers at a special ceremony at the Campbellsburg Mall.

 

Funeral services for England were held at 2 p.m. Friday with burial at the Dallasburg Cemetery in Wheatley, Kentucky.

Bernard Erwin

 

Bernard �Punch� Erwin, 42, shot and killed himself at the home of his brother, Robert Erwin, Franklinton, Thursday morning.  He moved to Louisville several months ago after selling out due to ill health.  No funeral arrangements had been made as the Local went to press.

Floyd Erwin

 

Mr. Floyd D. Erwin, 60, of Buckner, Kentucky, died Friday, June 28 at his residence after an extended illness.  He was a native of Henry County; a retired self-employed auto body repairman and an Army Veteran of WWII.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Lucille Clarke Casey Erwin, Buckner; two stepsons: Steven Tyler Casey, Shelbyville and Charles Ray Casey, Buckner; his mother: Mrs. Nellie Roberts Erwin, Louisville; one sister: Mrs. Kenneth (Lorene) Williams, Louisville; one brother: Clarence William Erwin, Eastwood and five granddaughters.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30 from Prewitt�s, New Castle.  Rev. Doug Dortch, pastor of the Buckner Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Mrs. W. H. Erwin

 

The many friends of Mrs. W. H. Erwin was (sic) grieved to hear of her passing away last Saturday at her home in Eminence.  Her funeral was held at the Christian Church, Eminence, Monday.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.  Much sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones.

Cordie Estes 

 

Mrs. Cordie Estes, 60, died of a heart attack Tuesday afternoon at her home in Pleasureville.

 

She is survived by her husband, William Estes; a brother: Lynn Adler, Marcus, Iowa; and a sister: Mrs. Will Heilman, Pleasureville.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Pleasureville Christian Church where she was a member.  The pastor, the Rev. Joe Aspley, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Arthur W. Ethington

 

Arthur W. Ethington, 78, of Louisville, passed away Monday, September 11, 2006 at Baptist East Hospital.  He was a native of Henry County, an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War; a retired heat treater for Tube Turns and a member of the Middletown Masonic Lodge for 53 years.

 

He is survived by his wife: the former Mildred Thurman; a son: Todd W. Ethington (Roberta) and three grandchildren, Jordyn, Wil and Wes.

 

Highlands Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  A private funeral will be held at a later date.

Beatrice Ethington

 

Beatrice Willhite Ethington, age 98, of Louisville, formerly of Pleasureville, died Monday, March 21, 2005 at Meadowview Health Care and Rehab.  She was a native of Bethlehem, Kentucky; the daughter of the late Arthur and Odie Bell Harlow Willhite; a homemaker; and a

Member of the Pleasureville Rebekah Lodge and the Pleasureville United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by one son: Art Ethington, Louisville; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett Ethington.

 

Services will be at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 23) at Sholar Funeral Home.  Rev. Maurice Schooler will officiate.  Burial will be in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

James Ethington

 

James Garnett Ethington, 80, of Pleasureville, died Monday, April 15 at the Highland Baptist Hospital, Louisville.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Beatrice Willhite Ethington, Pleasureville; two sons: Arthur Ethington and James Ethington, both of Middletown; one brother: Gayle Ethington; three sisters: Lucille Woods, Ruby Harrison and Dean Clubb; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held April 18 at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Owen Ethington

 

Mr. Owen Ethington, 69, of New Castle, died Monday, October 7 at the King�s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.  He was a retired welder and a member of the New Castle United Methodist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Thelma Martin Ethington, New Castle; one daughter: Mrs. Danny (Patricia) Long, Shepherdsville; four sons: Billy C. Ethington, Louisville, Bobby O. Ethington, Middletown, Charles L. Ethington, Taylorsville and Larry G. Ethington, Mt. Washington; two sisters: Mrs. Eliza Sutherland, Route 1, Sulphur and Mrs. Ruth Moore, Frankfort; eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 9 from Prewitt�s, New Castle.  Rev. Barclay Brown, pastor of the New Castle United Methodist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Roy Ethington

 

Roy Ethington, 47, of Shelbyville, formerly of Pleasureville, who died at the Norton Infirmary Saturday night, was buried at Pleasureville, Monday afternoon.  Funeral services were conducted at the Pleasureville Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Margaret Smither Ethington,; two daughters: Mrs. Robert Belwood, Jr. and Mrs. Tommy Wilson of Shelby County; one brother: Luther Ethington and one sister: Mrs. James Smither, both of Elmburg; and three grandchildren.

The funeral for Mrs. Ada Millie E(a)ton, 78, who died yesterday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary Long, in Scottsburg, Indiana, will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Sulphur Baptist Church.  Survivors include another daughter: Mrs. Laura Harrod, Louisville; and five sons: John W. E(a)ton, Cincinnati, Sam and Charles E(a)ton, Louisville, and Mason and Jesse E(a)ton, Sulphur.

Buck Evans

 

Buck Evans, age 59 of Bedford, died Monday, July 10, 2006, at Baptist Hospital Northeast.  He was a farmer and retired from Reliance Electric.  He was preceded in death by his father, Richard D. Evans.

 

He is survived by two daughters: Amanda Rena Evans, Eminence and Robin Lynn Stephens, Gamaliel; two sons: Buckie Allen Evans, Eminence and Todd Allen Payton, New Castle; his mother: Rena Evans, Pleasureville; one sister, Ann Marie Evans, Pleasureville; two brothers: Frosty Evans, Bedford, and Dago Evans, Pleasureville; and three granddaughters: Audrey, Alyssa and Adrienne Stephens.

 

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, July 12) at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Gary Polston, pastor of the Eminence United Methodist Church, will officiate.  Interment will be in the New Castle Cemetery.

Elizabeth Jackson Evans

 

Mrs. Elizabeth Jackson Evans, 77, Smithfield, died Tuesday at King�s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville. 

 

Survivors include a daughter: Mrs. Earl Price, Louisville; a son: Perry Evans, Smithfield; a sister: Mrs. Sue Turner, Louisville and four brothers: Sanford Jackson, Simpsonville, E. W. Jackson, Pleasureville, T. L. Jackson, Cropper and Shirley Jackson, Buechel.

 

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shannon-Prewitt Funeral Home in New Castle.  Burial will be in the Bagdad Cemetery.

Gayle Evans

 

Gayle Evans, age 76 of Franklinton, died Thursday, November 10, 2005 at his residence.  He was a retired farmer and a member of the Drennon Christian Church.  He was the son of the late Paul and Mary Belle Black Evans.

 

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Moe (Cindy) Foster, Louisville; two sons: Steve �Curly� Evans, Drennon and Joe Evans, Turners Station; four sisters: Joyce Marcum, Louisville, Mrs. Willard (Nancy) Gribbin, Owensboro, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Figg, Shelbyville and Mrs. Art (Eunice) Monfort, Frankfort; four brothers: Paul Evans, Georgetown, Wayne Evans, Shelbyville, Jimmy Evans, Mt. Eden and Kenny Evans, Turners Station; and three grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one sister.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 13 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Sylvia Baker-Noren, pastor of Audubon Park United Methodist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Leonora Evans

 

Leonora Donovan �Nody� Evans, age 99, of Louisville, died Saturday, May 7, 2005 at Meadowview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Louisville.  She was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Annie Owens Donovan and was active in the United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by her daughter: Gertrude Elizabeth �Betsy� Sewell, Bethlehem; four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Evans; one son: Evan Richard Evans and three grandsons.

 

Cremation was chosen.  Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jim Eversole

 

Mr. Jim Eversole, 82, of Star Route, Lockport, died Wednesday, May 23rd at the King�s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.  He was a native of Perry County and a retired farmer.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Mahala Combs Eversole, Star Route, Lockport; one daughter: Mrs. Kenneth (Juanita) Hall, Route 2, Pleasureville; one son: Don Eversole, Star Route, Lockport; one sister: Mrs. Luie Eversole, Austin, Indiana; one brother: Lewis Eversole, Dupty, Indiana; thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25 from Prewitt�s, New Castle.  Rev. Wayne Kelly, pastor of the Lockport Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Lelia Evridge

 

Lelia May Evridge, age 92 of New Castle, died Thursday, January 5, 2006 in New Castle.  She was a self-employed tax preparer, a member of the Westport Baptist Church and the daughter of the late Colby Brewer and Stella May Foster. 

 

She is survived by two sons: Ronald Thomas Evridge, Westport and Dorse Eugene Evridge, New Castle; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Thomas Evridge and one son, Colby Evridge.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 9 at the Arch L. Heady Radcliffe Funeral Home.  Rev. Bill Waugh of Fellowship Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Valley of Rest Cemetery in LaGrange.

Dow Ewing

 

Mr. Dow Ewing, 89, of Route 1, Campbellsburg, died Thursday, January 17th at the Shelby Manor Nursing Home, Shelbyville.  He was a retired farmer, an Army Veteran of WWI and a member of the Drennon Christian Church.

 

He is survived by several nieces and nephews and dear friends, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Holmes, Sr., Route 1, Campbellsburg.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 20th from Prewitt�s, New Castle.  Rev. William F. Coley, pastor of the Drennon Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Mrs. Ella E. Ewing, 72, of 1927 South Second Street, Louisville, died Tuesday in Louisville General Hospital.  She was a native of Eminence.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Noah L. James, with whom she lived, and Mrs. Eleanor Cuneo, Louisville; a son: J. C. Ewing, Livonia, Michigan; a sister: Mrs. J. L. Wiley, Leitchfield; and a brother: Richard Thompson, New Castle.

 

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shannon-Prewitt Funeral Home in New Castle.  Burial will be in the Eminence Cemetery.

Mrs. Nell Ewing, 101, of Pleasureville, died Wednesday, April 17th at the Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle.

 

She is survived by one granddaughter, Ann Dutschke, Louisville; one brother: Henry Stewart, Campbellsburg and one sister: Mrs. Ann Radcliffe, Louisville.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19th at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. David Simmons officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Ott Ewing, 75, died at 4 p.m. Friday at King�s Rest Home in Eminence.  He was a member of the Drennon Chapel Christian Church.

 

He is survived by one daughter: Mrs. R. C. Pullen, West Palm Beach, Florida; one son: Sid Ewing, New Castle and one grandson.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the McCarty Funeral Home in New Castle.  The Rev. William S. Lucas, Jr., pastor of the Drennon Chapel Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.
