Mrs. Edward Abbott

 

Mrs. Edward (Hattie) Abbott, 82, of Route 1, Smithfield, died Tuesday, July 23, 1985 at the Jewish Hospital, Louisville.  She was a native of Henry County, the former Hattie Garriott, daughter of the late William A. and Eva Smith Garriott; a former resident of Crestwood and a member of the Sligo Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Gerald (Dorothy) Simpson, Pewee Valley, Mrs. John (Edythe) Foree, Smithfield, Mrs. Joe L. (Bonnie) Foree, Bedford and Mrs. Gene (Dianne) Cook, Bedford; one sister: Mrs. Dorothy Winburn, Lawrenceville, Illinois; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24th at the Radcliffe Funeral Home, LaGrange.  Rev. Bob C. Speegle, pastor of the Sligo Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Louisville Gardens, East.

Mrs. Chester Adams

 

Mrs. Chester (Ora) Adams, 74, widow of Chester Adams, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. D. Gott, Bowling Green, Kentucky.  She was a member of the Providence Baptist Church.

 

Besides her daughter, she is survived by two sons: Irvin Adams, Campbellsburg and Loran, Adams, Cincinnati; a brother: Jess Williams, Louisville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at McCarty Funeral Home, Campbellsburg.  The Rev. Charles T. Pinkston officiated.  Interment was in the Turners Station Cemetery.

 

Henry County Local  April 3, 1958

 

 

John T. Adams

 

John T. Adams, 89, New Castle, a retired farmer, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the New Castle Sanitarium.  He was a member of the New Castle Pentecostal Church.  He was a son of the late Samuel and Nannie Kitson Adams of Henry County.

 

Survivors include four sons: W. T. Adams, Carrollton, Frank and Omar Adams, Campbellsburg and Robert Adams, Fairfield, California; two daughters: Mrs. Margaret Adams, Scottsburg, Indiana and Mrs. Katherine Skiles, Boynton Beach, Florida; twenty-four grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted Monday at McCarty Funeral Home in New Castle.  The Rev. Wade Frost officiated, assisted by Rev. John Chandler.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Corinne Aldridge

 

Mrs. Corinne Aldridge, 83, of Franklin County, died Sunday June 30, 1985.  She was formerly of Pleasureville.

 

She is survived by one son: Howard Wallace Samples, Germany; four step-children: Edith Penn, Frankfort, Evelyn Armstrong, Elmburg, Vernon Aldridge, Shelbyville and Garnett Aldridge, Shelbyville; one brother: Shirley Duncan, Shelbyville; three sisters: Mildred Harlow, Indiana, Elizabeth Harlow, Indiana and Gladys Young, Frankfort; three grandchildren and thirteen step-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 2nd at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Robert Couey officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Mrs. Ollie S. Allen

 

Mrs. Ollie Ve Shon Allen, Eminence, died Tuesday, March 11, 1958, at the King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.

 

She is survived by her husband, James Dee Allen; a brother, E. W. Schon, Delhi, Louisiana; three sisters: Mrs. Diamond Vaughn, Burbank, California, Mrs. Eulah Davis, Chico, California and Mrs. Cleo Dye, Winnsboro, Louisiana.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ricketts Funeral Home, Eminence.  Rev. Eugene Utterback, pastor of the Eminence Christian Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Ray Allen.  The remains were taken to Monroe, Louisiana for interment in a Monroe Cemetery.

Crit M. Arnold

 

Crit M. Arnold, 68, of Eminence, died Thursday while on a vacation trip in Florida.  He was an L. and N. agent at Shelbyville, and had been associated with the Louisville and Nashville Railroad for over 40 years.  He was a deacon in the Eminence Christian Church, secretary of the Eminence Masonic Lodge for many years, a member of the Eminence Odd Fellows Lodge and a former member of the Eminence City Council.

 

Survivors include his wife: Mrs. Vesta Hunter Arnold; a sister: Mrs. C. C. Barbee, Eminence; two step-sons: Coleman Jackson, Winter Park, Florida and Randolph Jackson, Winchester, Mass. and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Ricketts Funeral Home, Eminence.  Rev. Eugene Utterback, pastor of the Eminence Christian Church, officiated, assisted by J. Gano Herndon.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Arthur Arnsparger

 

Arthur H. Arnsparger, 74, retired farmer, Pleasureville, died at 10 a.m. Sunday at a hospital in Newport.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Nancy Garvey Arnsparger; one daughter: Miss Martha Arnsparger, Newport; five sons: Carlton and Kenneth Arnsparger, Eminence, Jewett Arnsparger, Lexington, Winfred Arnsparger, Newport and Cornell Arnsparger, Covington; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild and two sisters: Mrs. J. W. Kephart and Miss Lizzie Arnsparger, Pleasureville.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Joe W. Aspley officiated.  Burial was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

George Ball

 

George Ball, 80, Bedford, retired farmer, died at 2 p.m. Monday at the New Castle Sanitarium.  He was a member of the Bedford Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Elva Mae Dunn, Carrollton; four sons: Elmo Ball, Campbellsburg, Hubert Ball, Bedford, and Durad and Willie Ray Ball, Germany and twelve Grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church.  Rev. Richard Bolen officiated.  Burial was in the Campbellsburg Cemetery with McCarty Funeral Directors in charge.

Howard C. Banta

 

Howard C. Banta, 55, Eminence, died at 2:40 p.m. Saturday at King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Henry County six weeks ago.

 

Survivors include his wife: Mrs. Maude Rucker Banta; four daughters: Mrs. Russell Perry, Waddy, Miss Helen Banta and Mrs. James Peterson, both of Eminence and Mrs. Donald Roberts, New Castle; three sons: Oliver P. Banta, Christianburg, Gilbert Banta, Shelbyville and Issac Banta, Pleasureville; his mother: Mrs. Minnie Banta, Gratz and a sister: Mrs. Lelia Mae O’Brien, Gratz.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Union Church in Henry County.

Nellie Banta

 

Nellie Z. Banta, age 75, of Shelbyville, formerly of New Castle, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at the Masonic Homes of Shelbyville after an illness.  She was the daughter of the late Freda Tempke and Gurney Lee Morgan, Sr., retired from federal government where she worked in the comptroller’s  division for the National Guard and was a member of the Christ open Door Fellowship in Sligo.

 

She is survived by her husband, Isaac Banta, Shelbyville; four daughters: Sande Mullen, Lawton, Oklahoma, Renae Lawson and Connie Gregory, both of Shelbyville and Francine Davis, Frankfort; two sons: Billy Fischer III, Somerset and David Banta, Grafenburg; four brothers: Gurney Lee Morgan, Jr., Hatsboro, Pennsylvania, Ralph Morgan, Liberty, Billy Morgan, Sligo and Clyde Morgan, Pleasureville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.  She was preceded in death by two sisters.

 

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 9th at Webb Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. Marcia Woodyard and Sister Linda Morgan officiated.  Interment was in the Sligo Cemetery.

John Elias Barnett, 91, Campbellsburg, retired farmer, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 1958 At his home.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Benona Sanders Barnett; two daughters: Mrs. Dorothy Neill, Campbellsburg and Mrs. Nell Kendall, Irvine; one son: Shelby Barnett, Campbellsburg; one brother: Arthur Barnett, Campbellsburg and four grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at McCarty Funeral Home in Campbellsburg.  The rev. J. W. Cates officiated. Burial was in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.

Emma Jean Barnett

 

Mrs. Emma Jean Barnett, 92, died Sunday, July 28, 1985 at the Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle.  She was a native of Washington County and member of the Grace Assembly of God Church.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Cora Lee Gibens and Mrs. Elizabeth Woodward, both of Shelbyville; one sister: Mrs. Mattie Beavers, Springfield; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30that the Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. Dave Simmons, pastor of the Union Baptist Church, Defoe, officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Mrs. James W. Barnett

 

Mrs. Mary Ditto Barnett, 84, Harrodsburg, formerly of Henry County, died last Thursday at her home after an illness of three years.  She was the widow of James William Barnett.

 

Survivors include a daughter: Miss Mary Lee Barnett, Harrodsburg; three sons: William A., Elzy F. and James Barnett, Jr., all of Harrodsburg; three sisters: Mrs. J. G. Chilton, Crestwood, Mrs. E. L. Burton, Eminence and Miss Vella Ditto, Louisville.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Harrodsburg, with burial in the Eminence Cemetery.

Major Barnett

 

Major Barnett, 83, retired farmer, Campbellsburg, died Saturday morning at his home.  He was a member of the Campbellsburg Methodist Church and the son of the late Benjamin and Lucy Ransdell Barnett.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Grace Robinson Barnett; one son: Raymond Barnett, Campbellsburg; one brother: George Barnett, Turners Station; two sisters: Mrs. Birdie Chilton, New Castle and Mrs. Ethel Owen, Carrollton.

 

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the residence of his son.  Rev. Charles T. Pinkston, pastor of the Campbellsburg Methodist Church, officiated.  Burial was in the Campbellsburg Cemetery with McCarty Funeral Directors in charge.

Charlie Batts

 

Charlie Batts, 67, Louisville, formerly of Henry County, died at 6 a.m. Monday at General Hospital, Louisville.  He was a Veteran of WWI and a member of the Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by one son: Roy Lee Batts, Louisville; one sister: Mrs. Dora Perry, Port Royal and four grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McCarty Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Howard Olive, pastor of the Port Royal Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Charlie Bennett

 

Charlie M. Bennett, 80, New Castle, retired farmer, died Tuesday morning, April 8, 1958, at the home of his son, C. R. Bennett, New Castle, where he had made his home for several months.

 

He is survived by three sons: Charles R. Barnett, New Castle, Wilson Bennett, Carrollton and Mack Bennett, Smithfield; seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McCarty Funeral Home, New Castle.  Judge J. Gano Herndon officiated.  Burial was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Gobel Berry

 

Gobel Berry, 28, Eminence, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday from injuries received in a truck accident.  Berry, who operated an independent milk truck route was on his way to Louisville with a load of milk when his truck left the side of the road near Anchorage in Jefferson County and traveled 50 feet in a ditch before striking a tree.

 

Berry is survived by his wife: Mrs. Louise Wilson Berry; one son: Charles Berry, Eminence and his mother: Mrs. Charles Berry.

Mrs. P. T. Berry

 

Mrs. Martha Jo Berry, 90, widow of P. T. Berry of Port Royal, died at 4 a.m. Saturday at the New Castle Sanitarium, where she had been a patient for 13 months.  Mrs. Berry was a daughter of the late Simon P. and Lucy Evans Carpenter and a descendant of one of Kentucky’s oldest families.  She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by one son: John M. Berry, New Castle Attorney; a sister: Mrs. Lillian Bishop, Lacie; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Shannon Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Joe Whitt, pastor of the New Castle Baptist Church and former pastor of the Hopewell Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in Port Royal Cemetery.

Mrs. Lois Bickers, Campbellsburg, died Thursday night at her home near Campbellsburg after a long illness.  She was a native of Ohio County.

 

She is survived by her husband: James Bickers; her parents: Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Moiden, Carrollton; a sister: Mrs. Raymond Meadows, Carrollton and one brother: Charles Moiden, Carrollton.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Campbellsburg Methodist Church.  Burial was in the Carrollton Cemetery.

Ed Bierman, 73, retired business man of North Pleasureville, died Tuesday, October 7, 1958, at Norton Infirmary, Louisville.  He had been in ill health for several years.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Elizabeth Lynch Bierman; one daughter: Mrs. E. R. Denney, Louisville; one son: E. L. Bierman, Pewee Valley; four grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. ?. P. Doll, Louisville and Mrs. Will Lange, St. Matthews; two brothers: Frank Bierman, Buechel and Albert Bierman, St. Matthews and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Thomas Funeral Home, North Pleasureville.  Rev. Joe W. Aspley, pastor of the Pleasureville Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

H. D. Black, 84, retired farmer of near Pleasureville, died at 5 p.m. Friday, November 7, 1958, at his home, after a lingering illness. 

 

He is survived by four daughters: ? , Mrs. Paul Evans, Bethlehem, Mrs. Ruth Marx, Shelbyville and Miss Loraine Black, Pleasureville; one son: Joseph Black, Pleasureville; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother: Oney Balck, Defoe; three sisters: Mrs. George Cockrell, Cropper, Mrs. Clarence Smith, Bethlehem and Mrs. Orkley Dowden, Cincinnati.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 9th at Pleasureville Christian Church, where he had been a member for many years.  Rev. Joe Aspley, pastor, officiated.  Interment was in the Defoe Cemetery.

Phoebe W. Botts

 

Mrs. Phoebe Wilson Botts, 92, New Castle, died at 2 a.m. Sunday at the home of her sister, Mrs. R. W. Ricketts, with whom Mrs. Botts had made her home for several years.  She had been in ill health for some time.

 

Besides Mrs. Ricketts, she is survived by one granddaughter, Mrs. Don King, Nashville and four great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McCarty Funeral Home, new Castle.  Rev. Tom Money, pastor of the New Castle Christian Church, and Rev. William E. Hull, pastor of the New Castle Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the cemetery at Independence, Ky.

Eva Brown

 

Miss Eva Brown, 66, Campbellsburg, died Friday at the home of her sister, Mrs. Golden Redman, Campbellsburg.  She was a member of the Campbellsburg Christian Church.

 

Her sister, Mrs. Redman, is her only survivor.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at McCarty Funeral Home, Campbellsburg.  Rev. J. W. Cate officiated.  Interment was in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.

Ira M. Brown

 

Ira M. Brown, 67, Shelbyville, died unexpectedly at 11 p.m. Thursday at his home after suffering a heart attack.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Hattie Brown; two daughters: Miss Mary Ann Brown, Shelbyville and Mrs. Anna Mae Dixon, Campbellsburg; four step-sons: Tom, Archie and Bill Denton, Shelbyville, and John Denton, Louisville; his mother: Mrs. Metilda Brown, Fairdale; one sister: Mrs. Mayme Farris, Hamilton, Ohio; three brothers: John and Henry Brown, Shelbyville, and Dave Brown, Fairdale; and a granddaughter: Miss Anna Elizabeth Jamison, Campbellsburg.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. Marshall Phillips officiated.  Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Charles A. Bruce 

 

Charles Allen Bruce, 61, formerly of Henry County, died March 7, 1958, at the home of a son, Charles V. Bruce, in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

 

He is survived by his parents: Mr. and Mrs. Arch Bruce, Eminence; one daughter: Mrs. Rhelda Howard, Louisville; five sons: Walter, James, Raymond and Michael Bruce, Louisville and Charles Bruce, Jeffersonville; two brothers: W. D. Bruce, Eminence and John Bruce, Lockport and eight grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. March 10th at the Arch L. Heady Southern Funeral Home, Louisville, with burial in the Louisville Memorial Gardens.

James Bush

 

James Bush, 88, died November 20, 1958, at his home near Defoe.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Cora Bush; one daughter: Mrs. Roberta Shannon, Frankfort; two grandchildren; three nieces: Mrs. James Barnsfather, Mrs. Herman Wentworth and Mrs. Ida Chadwell, all of Pleasureville.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 22, at Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. R. M. Baldwin, pastor of the Pleasureville Methodist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Mrs. Hubert Caldwell   

 

Mrs. Nellie Martin Caldwell, 52, Eminence, died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at SS. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, Louisville, where she underwent a major operation on Tuesday.  She was a native of Owen County, daughter of Mrs. Eura O’Banion Martin Cobb, Louisville, and the late Mr. John Martin.

 

Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, Hubert Caldwell, Eminence; one daughter: Mrs. Wallace Lowry, Louisville; one sister: Mrs. ____ Jackson, Sparta; one brother: James Lee Martin, Louisville.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Eminence Christian Church, where she was a member.  Rev. Eugene Utterback, pastor, officiated.  Interment was in the Owenton Cemetery.

Lorenzo Camp

 

Lorenzo Camp, 80, retired shoe salesman, died at 8:40 a.m. Saturday at the New Castle

Sanitarium, where he had been a patient for five weeks.  He was a native of Cloverport.

 

He is survived by one daughter: Mrs. John Ballway, Louisville.

 

The body was taken from Shannon-Prewitt Funeral Home, new Castle, to Henderson for funeral and burial Tuesday in the Fern Wood Cemetery, Henderson.

Mrs. Virtie Averett Capito, 60, Eminence, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville, where she had been a patient since November 29, 1958.

She was a member of the Eminence Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Oscar Payne, Eminence; one granddaughter: Mrs. Willard Mayes, Eminence; one great-granddaughter: Karen Ann Mayes, Eminence; one sister: Miss Lola Averett; three brothers: Henry, Thomas and Charles Averett.

 

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today, Thursday, at Shannon Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Hal Marchman, pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, will officiate.  Interment will be in the Eminence Cemetery.

Mrs. Maggie Chilton, 84, port Royal, widow of Dud Chilton, died Saturday at the New Castle Sanitarium.

 

She is survived by two brothers: Jim and John Young, Port Royal; two sisters: Mrs. Mattie Dunaway, Port Royal and Mrs. Robert Ellis, Worthville; a granddaughter: Mrs. Charles W. Pemble, Jr. Miami, Florida; and four great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted by W. A. McCarty Funeral Directors at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Port Royal Methodist Church.  Rev. Howard Olive officiated, assisted by Rev. Leroy Sanders.  Burial was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Ricky L. Clark

 

Ricky Lee Clark, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Clark, Campbellsburg, died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 1958 at his home.

 

Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters: Patty Ann and Connie Jean Clark, Campbellsburg; one brother: Donnie Carroll Clark, Campbellsburg; and his grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. William Githerman, Carrollton.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the residence.  Rev. Charles Pinkston officiated, assisted by Rev. Jack Polalrd. Interment was in the Carrollton Cemetery with W. A. McCarty Funeral Directors in charge.

Sophia Coghill

 

Miss Sophia Coghill, 79, died Thursday night at Watson Nursing Home in Eminence.

 

Her only survivors are several cousins.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ricketts Funeral Home, Eminence.  Rev. Walter Sutton officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Nannie Collett

 

Mrs. Nannie Bell Collett, 72, Shelbyville, died Saturday night at King’s Daughters Hospital.  She was a native of Henry County.

 

Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Beckham Gordon, Pleasureville and Mrs. Clarence LaFollette, Eminence; and a son: James Collett, Shelbyville.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Eminence Baptist Church.  Burial was in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Bessie W. Collins

 

Mrs. Bessie Wills Collins, 67, wife of A. H. Collins of near New Castle, died at 6:55

a.m. Thursday, December 11, 1958, at King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.  Mrs. Collins had suffered a broken hip in a fall about five weeks ago and had been in the hospital since that time.  She was the daughter of the late Baum and Maggie Crouch Wills and a member of the Cropper Christian Church.

 

Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters: Mrs. James Tipton, Frankfort and Mrs. Robert Gray, Shelbyville; four sons: Thashley Collins, Middletown, Ohio, Carl and Rudolph Collins, Eminence and Kenneth Collins, Okolona; six sisters: Mrs. V. D. Tipton, Eminence, Mrs. Alvin Morton, Lexington, Mrs. Reese Wingate, Mt. Sterling, Mrs, Leonard Cole, Rothwell, Ky., Mrs. Herman Braden, Tampa, Florida and Mrs. Leslie Lansdale, Franklin, Ohio; two brothers: Orville Wills and Cleve Wills, both of Middletown, Ohio; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. Hal Marchman, pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Minor Bottom.  Burial was in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Guy Congleton

 

Guy Congleton, 66, died at 9 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 1958, at his home near Sulphur, after an illness of several months.  He was a native of Lee County, the son of Isaac and Nancy Thomas Congleton.  He had lived in the Sulphur community for about 25 years.

 

Survivors include his wife: Mrs. Nannie Farley Congleton; two daughters: Mrs. George A. Vaughn, Jr., Lexington and Mrs. John R. Jeffries, Sulphur; one son: Charles W. Congleton, Sulphur; three sisters: Mrs. Harlan Quillen, Heidelburg, Ky., Mrs. Clyde Moyers, Bonnieville and Mrs. Dan Hall, Irvine; one half-sister: Mrs. Brown Hall, Ashville, N. C.; two brothers: Charles and Enos Congleton, both of Beatyville; one half-brother: Hill Congleton, Beattyville.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Shannon-Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Charles Pinkston, pastor of the Sulphur Methodist Church, officiated.  Interment was at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Congleton Cemetery, Beattyville.

Sid D. Cox

 

Sid D. Cox, 51, Sulphur, farmer, died at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 1958, at Kentucky Baptist Hospital, Louisville, where he had been a patient for one day.  Long ill of a heart condition, he had been taken to Mallory-Taylor Hospital, LaGrange, Wednesday, and later to the Louisville hospital.  He was a native of Henry County and the son of Mrs. Mary Danner Cox and the late Mr. Breck Cox.

 

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife: Mrs. Mary Dell Nelson Cox; one daughter: Mrs. Shirley Reynolds, Louisville; four sisters: Mrs. Charles Dunn, Prestonville, Mrs. Len Louden, New Castle and Mrs. Paul Capito and Miss Pauline Cox, Louisville.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shannon-Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Burrel Lucas, pastor of the Pleasureville Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Charles T. Pinkston, pastor of the Sulphur Methodist Church.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

 

Henry County Local  January 9, 1958

 

 

S. J. Day

 

Sanford J. Day, 91, Eminence, retired farmer, died Monday morning at his home.  He had been in ill health for some time.  He was a member of the Eminence Methodist Church.

 

Survivors include three sons: W. K. And Clarence Day, both of Eminence and A. C. Day, Enid, Oklahoma; two daughters: Mrs. A. P. Gullett, West Liberty and Mrs. U. E. Nickell, Davenport, Oklahoma; one brother: A. K. Day, Lebanon, Ohio; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ricketts Funeral Home, Eminence.  Rev. Allen E. Smith officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

 

Henry County Local  February 20, 1958

 

 

Kate W. Demaree

 

Mrs. Kate W. Demaree, San Benito, Texas, daughter of the late Berry and Mary E. Wigginton of Trimble County, died at her home in San Benito, Sunday morning, October 26, 1958.

 

Surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Lawrence W. Mooney, St. Petersburg, Florida and Mrs. J. Arthur Mitchell, Campbellsburg; two daughters: Miss Iantha Demaree and Mrs Angie Taylor, San Benito, Texas; a grandson and family in Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Roy Wigginton, Carrollton and Mrs. Saloma Wigginton, Somerset.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with burial in San Benito, Texas.

Sarah Jane Devore

 

Mrs. Sarah Jane Devore, 74, Miami, Florida, formerly of Henry County, died March 22, 1958, in Miami.

 

She is survived by two sons: Matthew Devore, New Castle and Freddie Devore, Archer, Florida; one niece: Mrs. Bertha Steavens, Miami; one nephew: Willie Barnett, Redding, Ohio; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral and burial services were conducted Wednesday in Miami.
