Allie Morgan

 

Mrs. Allie Morgan,77 of Louisville, died Saturday, April 18, 1981 at the Highland Baptist Hospital, Louisville.  She was formerly of Henry County.

 

She is survived by her husband, Bernard Morgan, Louisville; one son: George M. Goetz, Louisville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one sister: Mrs. Ethel McCarty, Eminence.

 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 20th at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Billy Joe Cox officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Clay Morgan

 

John Clay Morgan, age 45 of Sulphur, died Friday, January 20, 2006.  He was a mechanic and son of the late George Floyd and Alice Gayle Dawson Morgan.

 

He is survived by his wife: Eileen Morgan, Sulphur; two daughters: Lindsey Morgan Padgett, Campbellsburg and Ashley Morgan, Sulphur; one son: George Morgan, Sulphur; two sisters: Mrs. Larry (Sharon) Potts, Smithfield and Mrs. Gary (Rhonda) Cole, Pekin, IN; three brothers: Bill Morgan, Smithfield, Bert Morgan, Sulphur and Jerry Morgan, Port Royal; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at noon Monday, January 23rd at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Bert Morgan of Sulphur officiated.  Interment was in the Sligo Cemetery.

Edward Morgan

 

Edward Mason Morgan, 44, of Louisville, died Friday, December 16, 1983 at the Humana Hospital University, Louisville.  He was born in Henry County.

 

He is survived by his mother: Mrs. Fannie C. Morgan, Louisville; his wife: Mrs. Mildred Morgan, Louisville; four brothers: Earl Mason Morgan (a twin), Texas, Sherley Morgan, Louisville, Rodney Morgan, New Castle and Charles Morgan, Worthville; six sisters: Mrs. Rebecca Tull, Illinois, Mrs. Verna Mann, Harrodsburg, Mrs. Rosetta Cox, Smithfield, Mrs. Carolyn Temple, Louisville, Mrs. Anita Batts, Pleasureville and Mrs. Velma Herrensmith, Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 18th at the Barnett-Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg.  Rev. Clayton Klingenfus, pastor of the New Castle Christian Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Carrollton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Eva Morgan

 

Mrs. Eva L. Morgan, 80 of Route 1, Pendleton, died Saturday, March 28, 1981 at the Carroll County Hospital, Carrollton.  She was a member of the Covington Ridge Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by four daughters: Dorothy Morgan, Mrs. Thelma Gibson and Mrs. Eunice Wilson, all of Pendleton and Mrs. Juanita Smith, Land of Lakes, FL; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 31st at the Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford.  Rev. Darrell Wilson, Michigan and Rev. Al Claybrooke, pastor of the Covington Ridge Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Bedford.

Fannie Morgan

 

Mrs. Fannie Z. Morgan, 73, of Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle, died Sunday, November 10, 1985.  She was a member of the New Castle Christian Church.

 

She is survived by three sons: Sherely Long, Louisville, Earl Morgan, LaGrange and Rodney Morgan, New Castle; three daughters: Mrs. Carolyn Temple, Louisville, Mrs. Anita Batts, Pleasureville and Mrs. Velma J. Herronsmith, Louisville; two brothers: Mr. J. W. Long, Louisville and Mr. Sam Long, New Castle; one sister: Alma Lee Bowers; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 13th at the Barnett-Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg.  Rev. Fred Coburn and Dr. Clayton Klingenfus officiated.

Interment was in the Carrollton Cemetery.

Floyd Morgan

 

Floyd Morgan, 71, (1887 – December 18, 1958) Sulphur farmer, died at 7:45 a.m., at Mallory-Taylor Hospital, LaGrange.  He was a native of Trimble County and a son of the late William and Mollie D. Ralston Morgan.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Laura Hundley Morgan; six sisters: Mrs. Roy Wright, Worthville, Mrs. Ambrose Caldwell and Mrs. Josie Carllies, Franklin, IN, Mrs. Charles Seavars, Scottsburg, IN, Mrs. James Demoss, Indianapolis and Mrs. Marshall Garrett, Pendleton; one brother: Gilbert Morgan, Pendleton and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sligo Baptist Church where Mr. Morgan was a member.  Interment was in the Sligo Cemetery.

Jack Morgan

 

Jack Morgan, 96 (1886 – January 23, 1983) of Pendleton, died Sunday, at the Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle.  He was a retired mail carrier, formerly operated a general store at Sligo, and with his wife, Roxie, operated the former “White Cottage Restaurant” at Sligo.

 

He was a native of Trimble County and the son of the late William R. and Laura Jennings Morgan, a sixty-seven year member of Simpson Lodge #189, New Castle and a Naval Veteran of WWI.

 

He is survived by one daughter: Mrs. William R. (Claudine) Yates, Pendleton; three granddaughters: Mrs. Ken (Elena) Eulo, Greenwich, CN, Miss Jackie Yates, Lexington and Mrs. Steve (Jill) Dunlap, Pendleton and one great-grandchild.  Also surviving are Miss Elizabeth Fishback and the “Century Old Parrot” who many will remember.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 25th from the Radcliffe Funeral Home, LaGrange and at the graveside in the Sligo Cemetery.

Mary Morgan

 

Mary Ellen Morgan, age 91 of LaGrange, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, in LaGrange.  She was a clerk at the Holy Name Salvage Store.

 

She is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Russell (Norma A.) Johnson, Campbellsburg; one stepson: William C. Morgan; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William Morgan.

 

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 26th at Arch L. Heady Radcliffe Funeral Home, LaGrange.  Interment was in the Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

Nancy Morgan

 

Mrs. Nancy Mae Thurman Morgan, 87, (2-12-1886 – 3-22-1973) of Eminence, passed away at the King’s Daughters Hospital, Shelbyville.  Mrs. Morgan was the senior member of the Eminence United Methodist Church.

 

She is survived by her husband: Mr. J. B. Morgan, Eminence; one son: Mr. J. M. Morgan, Louisville and one grandson: Mr. Earl M. Morgan, Louisville.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 130 p.m. Saturday, March 24th, at the Ricketts Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Olds officiating.  Committal services were held at the Eminence Cemetery.

William Morgan

 

William D. “Bill” Morgan, age 75 of Eminence, died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville.  He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired from Eastern Airlines after thirty-one years; a member of the Eminence Christian Churc and the son of the late Jesse Howard and Gladys Tyler Morgan.

 

He is survived by his wife: Billy J. Morgan, Eminence; two daughters: Mrs. Larry (Pam) Bohannon, Pleasureville and Mrs. Don (Karen) Louden, Eminence; one son: Steve Morgan, Lexington; one brother: Don Morgan, New Albany, IN; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

 

Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 11th at the Eminence Christian Church.  Rev. Sharon Fields, pastor of the Eminence Christian Church will officiate, assisted by Rev. Vernon Johnson, Louisville.  Prewitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Belle Morris

 

Mrs. Belle Berry Morris, widow of James Morris, passed away Sunday, January 14, 1940 at 2:30 a.m. after a lingering illness of several years, which took a more serious turn about sixteen months ago.

 

Mrs. Morris was a native of Henry County, the daughter of John and Matilda Roberts, who lived near Drennon Springs.  She was married to Robert Berry of Oldham County and three children were born to this union, all surviving her.  Several years after the death of Mr. Berry, she was married to Mr. James Morris, who died some years ago.  She was a member of the LaGrange Christian Church from her youth.

 

She is survived by a son: Oswald Berry, Milton; two daughters: Mrs. J. T. Landrum, Louisville and Mrs. Gabriel Batts, Peoris, IL; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three sisters: Mrs. Sophronia Bryant, Mrs. Margaret Shelley and Mrs. Betty Ewing of Henry County.

 

Services were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the home of her sister, Mrs. Bryant, with whom she made her home.  Rev. E. L. Griffy was in charge of the service.  Interment was in the Valley of Rest Cemetery, LaGrange.

Mrs. C. E. Morris

 

Mrs. R. W. Ricketts and Mrs. J. Botts, New Castle, received word Saturday of the death of their sister, Mrs. C. E. Morris, San Antonio, TX.

 

Besides Mrs. Ricketts and Mrs. Botts, she is survived by two sons and three grandsons.

 

Funeral and burial services were held Monday in San Antonio.

Daisy Morris

 

Daisy E. Morris, age 56, of Austin, IN, passed away Friday, October 8, 2004, in Lexington, IN.  She was a member of the Scaffold Lick Baptist Church, former owner and operator of Daisy’s Beauty Shop and daughter of the late Robert Lyons and Daisy J. McAllister Lyons.

 

She is survived by one daughter: Mrs. Benny (Judy Ann) Brown, Crothersville, IN; three brothers: Robert E. Lyons, Hanover, IN, Jerry Lyons, Scottsburg, IN and Carroll Junior Lyons, Louisville; three sisters: Mrs. Keith (Patricia) Dixon, Lexington, IN, Fannie Eversole, Madison, IN and Mrs. Charles (Hazel) Danner, Eminence; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Morris, Jr., three sisters and one brother.

 

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 10th at 2 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, Indiana.  Rev. David Culley and Dr. Sidney Fulton officiated.  Interment was in the Scottsburg Indiana Cemetery.

Elmore Morris

 

Elmore Morris, 85 of Sulphur, died Sunday, October 16, 1983 at the Baptist East Hospital, Louisville.  He was a retired farmer and a member of the Sulphur Methodist Church.

 

He is survived by several cousins.

 

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 18th at the Sligo Cemetery.  Rev. Ray Snider, pastor of the Sulphur Methodist Church, officiated.  Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle, was in charge of arrangements.

Anna Yancey “Mrs. H. H.” Morris

 

Mrs. Anna Yancey Morris, (1850-1914) beloved wife of H. H. Morris, died at her home in New Castle, on Sunday, September 20, 1914, at 4 p.m., after an illness of eight weeks during which she endured much suffering.

 

Mrs. Morris was a  daughter of John Yancey, a member of a leading Kentucky family, but spent the early part of her life in Missouri, to which state her father moved when she was quite young.  Twenty-seven years ago she was married to Mr. Morris, and during the greater part of the time she has lived in New Castle.  Her age was about 56 years.  She was the mother of only one child, a most devoted daughter, Mrs. Nell Holland, wife of J. A. Holland of this place.  Besides Mrs. Holland, she is survived by her husband and two stepsons, Joseph W. and Mervin L. Morris, both of this place.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the house, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, by her pastor Mr. W. C. Foster, of the Christian Church, assisted by Mr. B. O. Beck, of the Methodist Church.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

James “Jimmie” Morris

 

Mr. James L. Morris, 50, of Route 1, Sulphur, died suddenly Thursday, November 15, 1984, near New Castle.  He was the owner of the Morris Insurance Agency, New Castle, a director of the United Citizens Bank, Campbellsburg, a farmer, an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a twenty-five year member of Simpson Lodge #189 and a member and deacon of the Sulphur Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Betsy Tipton Morris, Route 1, Sulphur; two sons: Mark Morris and Lewis Morris, both of Sulphur; his mother: Mrs. Minnie Ruth Hancock, Sulphur; two sisters: Mrs. Bobby (Ruth Earl) Harrod, Route 1, New Castle and Dr. Joyce Ann Hancock, Louisville and five grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 18th from Prewitt’s, New Castle.  Rev. Ferrill Davis, pastor of the Sulphur Baptist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Nick Coleman, pastor of the Children of the King Church, Bedford.  Interment was in the Sulphur Cemetery.

Joe E. Morris

 

Joe E. Morris, 77 of Pattons Creek Road, Pendleton, died Monday, March 7, 1983 at his residence.  He was a native of Trimble County, a farmer and a member of the Westport United Methodist Church,

 

He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Norvin (Violet) Jennings, Pendleton and Mrs. Gene (Reva) Milby, Plum Tree, Zimbabwe, Africa; one son: J. C. Morris, Pendleton; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9th at the Radcliffe Funeral Home, LaGrange.  Rev. Dave Luckert, pastor of the Westport Methodist Church, and Rev. Al Claybrooks, pastor of the Covington Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Bedford.

Joyce Morris, age 69 of Shelbyville, died Sunday, December 10, 2006, at her residence.  She was a seamstress at Lee-McClain, a homemaker, the daughter of the late Paul Truman and Virgie Rae King Watts and a member of the Shelbyville Wesleyan Church.

 

She is survived by one daughter: Connie Hernandez, Eminence; one son: Paul Stucker, Shelbyville; one sister: Marietta Black, Shelbyville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Morris II.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 14th at Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Rev. John Vaughn and Pastor Randy Bishop will officiate. Interment will be in the Shady Lawn Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Lev “L. G.” Morris

 

L. G. Morris, 81, (1878-1959) New Castle, retired farmer, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday at his home.  He was a deacon and life-long member of the New Castle Baptist Church.  A native of Henry County, he was a son of the late James C. and Mary Watkins Morris.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Margaret Moore Morris; three daughters: Mrs. John W. Long, New Castle, Mrs. Jewell Hieatt, Smithfield and Mrs. Emerson Joyce, Jr. Frankfort; two grandchildren: Miss Jean Morris Long, New Castle and Mr. William C. Hieatt, Keokuke, IA and three great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Shannon-Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle.  Rev. Joe Whitt, pastor of the New Castle Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Lewis E. Morris

 

Lewis E. Morris, 78, (1879-1958) retired merchant of Sulphur, died Wednesday night at his home after suffering a heart attack.  He had been in ill health for about six years.  He was a native of Henry County, a son of the late Abner and Mollie Burton Morris.

 

Survivors include a sister: Mrs. Mary Peak, Washington, D.C.; two brothers: Ben F. Morris and Dr. Charlie Morris, Louisville; two grandchildren: Mrs. Mrs. Richard Jaehnigan and Mr. Jimmy Morris, Sulphur and three grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 3:15 p.m. Friday at the Sulphur Baptist Church where he was a member.  Rev. Joe Hall officiated.  Interment was in the Sulphur Cemetery.

Mary Morris

 

Miss Mary Louise Morris, 78 of Louisville, died Tuesday, August 2, 1983 at the Brownsboro Hills Nursing Home, Louisville.  She was a native of Henry County, a retired school teacher in Henry and Jefferson Counties for 40 years and a counselor for the 700 Club.

 

She is survived by several cousins.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 4th from Prewitt’s, New Castle.  Rev. Wallace Cauble, pastor of the Evangel Tabernacle, Louisville, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Mervin L. “M. L.” Morris

 

Mervin L. Morris, 65, (1881-1946) Master Commissioner of the Henry Circuit Court and former merchant of New Castle, died in his sleep of a heart attack in his room at the Castle Hotel Saturday night. 

 

Morris, since retiring from the mercantile business several years ago, had been interested

in many community, county and national affairs.  He was assistant clerk of the Henry County Draft Board since its inception for WWII, secretary and treasurer of the Henry County Chapter of the American Red Cross, secretary and treasurer of the New Castle Masonic Lodge, treasurer of the New Castle Baptist Church building fund and clerk and treasurer of the Town of New Castle.

 

He is survived by a half-sister: Mrs. Avery Holland, New Castle and three nephews, H. H. Morris, Washington, D.C., Joe C. Morris, Palm Beach, FL and Avery M. Holland, Carrollton and a niece: Mrs. James Sheehan, Jr., Lexington.

 

Funeral services were conducted at the New Castle Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest P. Russell, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. J. T. Highfield.  Burial was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Mike Morris

 

Mike Morris, age 44 of New Castle, died Thursday, August 10, 2006.  He was employed as a gravedigger for various cemeteries throughout Henry County as well as Carroll and Shelby counties.  He was born in Denison, IA and was a member of the Eminence United Methodist Church.

 

He is survived by two daughters: Jessica and Brittney Morris, New Castle; one son: Josh Morris, New Castle; his parents: Peggy and Don Morris, Shelbyville and one sister: Tonya White, Shelbyville.  He was the son of the late Frankie Leonard Morris.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 12th at Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home.  Rev. Garry Polston, pastor of the Eminence United Methodist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

William “Bill” Robert Morris II

 

William “Bill” Robert Morris II, age 85 of Shelbyville, died Monday, May 8, 2006, in Eminence.  He was a carpenter, a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, attended the Shelbyville Wesleyan Church and was the son of the late William Morris, Sr. and Florence Shelton Morris.

 

He is survived by his wife: Joyce P. Watts Morris, Eminence; two sons: Paul Stucker, Shelbyville and William Robert Morris III, Williamsburg, VA; three daughters: Connie Hernandez, Eminence, Deanne Peterson, Mesquite, TX and Cheryl Moore, New Bern, NC; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, May 10th) at Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville.  Pastor Randy Bishop and Rev. John Vaughn will officiate.  Interment will be in the Shady Lawn Cemetery, Shelbyville.

James W. “Jim” Morrison, age 69 of Carrollton, died Monday, July 24, 2006, in his home.  He was a farmer, the son of the late Dan and Josephine Huffman Morrison and attended Faith Covenant Baptist Church, Madison, IN.

 

He is survived by one son: Russell Morrison, Carrollton; two sisters: Martha Jo, Harrison County, IN and Rose Mary, Vevay, IN; and one brother: Truman Roosevelt Morrison, Aurora, IN.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, July 26th) at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Pastor Judy Snell, Faith Covenant Baptist Church, will officiate.  Interment will be in the New Castle Cemetery.

Helen Perkinson Moss, age 81 of Eminence, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 1995, in Shelbyville.

Garnett Slone officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Mrs. Porter Knight Moss, 75 (1908-1983) of Brandon, FL, died Tuesday, May 31, 1983 at Lowe’s Nursing Home in Thonotosassa, FL.  She was formerly of Pleasureville.

 

She is survived by one son: Marion Link, Brandon, FL and two grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 3rd at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Chris Franklin officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Darvin Mounce

 

Darvin Merle Mounce, age 63 of Cynthiana, died Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at his residence.  He was a retired farmer, a U.S. Vietnam Army Veteran, and the son of the late Frank Woodford and Anna Craycraft Mounce.

 

He is survived by two sons: Mark Mounce, Bedford and Darvin Mounce, Jr.; two daughters: Mrs. Lanny (Jana) Roberts, Eminence and Tammy Mounce; one brother: Ronald Mounce, Somerset; two sisters: Christine Hudgins, Scott County and Mrs. George (Wanda) Gray, Harrison County and nine grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one sister.

 

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 9th at Ware Funeral Home.  Rev. Doug Lauer officiated.  Interment was in the St. Edwards Cemetery.

Robert Mueller

 

Mr. Robert Mueller, 81, of Minneapolis, MN, died Thursday, October 17, 1985, at the Walker Methodist Health Care Center, Minneapolis.  He was formerly of Henry County, a retired musician and teacher and a life member of a Christian Church.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Foree of Sulphur.

 

He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Marjorie Bassinger, Windom, MN, Mrs. Jean Mitteco, Minneapolis and Mrs. Pamela Allen, Corpus Christi, TX; one brother: Carl Mueller, Boulder, CO; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 26th from Prewitt’s, New Castle.  Rev. Nick Coleman, pastor of the Children of the King Church, Bedford, will officiate.  Interment will be in the Sulphur Cemetery.

Angela Mullins

 

Angela Marie Denner Mullins, age 54 of Eminence, died Saturday, January 28, 2006, at Baptist Hospital East, Louisville.  She was a former employee of Purnells.

 

She is survived by two sons: David Michael Mullins, Louisville and Dustin Patrick Mullins, Ypsilanti, MI; one daughter: Lisa Marie Way, Eminence; her mother: Joan

Houston Denner, Louisville; four grandchildren; four sisters and four brothers.

 

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 2nd at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood.  Rev. Ed Life, pastor of Smithfield Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Turners Station Cemetery.

Leslie Mullins

 

Leslie Mullins, age 73 of Campbellsburg, died Thursday, January 18, 2007, at the VA Hospital, Louisville.  Son of the late George and Emma Gray Mullins, he was employed with Fisher Packing Company as a meat processor for 25 years, as well as Clyde’s Cleaners for fifteen years.  He was a life-long member and deacon of the Eminence First Baptist Church and the Henry County DAV.  Leslie was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

 

He is survived by his wife: Mary Armstrong Mullins, Campbellsburg; two daughters: Margaret Elizabeth Mullins and Lorena Mullins, both of Campbellsburg; two sons: William M. Mullins and his wife, Robin, New Castle and Clyde E. Mullins and his wife, Melody, Danville;  two grandchildren: Brandon Seay and William Matthew Mullins and two step-grandchildren: Evan Hall and Stephanie Huff.  He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

 

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 20th at Eminence First Baptist Church.  Rev. Charles Duncan officiated, assisted by Robert Fields.  Interment was in the Eminence Cemetery.

Ora Mumphrey

 

Ora B. Mumphrey, 61, of Eminence, died Saturday, January 14, 1984, at the Veteran’s Hospital, Louisville.  He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a member of the First Baptist Church, Eminence.

 

He is survived by one son: James Leonard Bailey, Eminence; one sister: Mrs. Mary Ellen McKee, Philadelphia, PA; one brother: Willie Long, Louisville and five grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 17th from Prewitt’s, New Castle.  Dr. W. H. Goatley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Eminence, officiated.  Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Castle.

Estel Murphy

 

One of the saddest deaths that ever occurred in our community was that of Estel H. Murphy, (1871-1901) a most excellent young man.  He died at the home of his father, P. S. Murphy, near Sulphur, November 11, 1901, at 12 o’clock, of typhoid fever, after an illness of fifteen days.

 

He was stricken down at the early age of 30 years, full of hope and ambition.  He joined the Baptist Church at Campbellsburg in October, 1900, where he held his membership until he died.  His funeral was preached at the Sulphur Baptist Church by Elder W. W. Foree, after which he was laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sulphur to await the resurrection morn.

Hallie Belle Murphy

 

Seven prominent Henry Countians were killed and eighth seriously injured early Saturday morning when their automobile collided with an L. & N. passenger train at a grade crossing near pewee Valley.

 

The group had been to an inn near Middletown, where a dinner party was given in honor of Sgt. William W. Suter of Campbellsburg, home on furlough from Camp White, Oregon.

 

The collision, which occurred at 1:05 a.m., at the Altawood crossing, demolished the automobile and tossed the victims along the right-of-way for 150 feet.  Only three of the seven were alive when they reached Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital.  Two died after arrival.

 

Miss Hallie Belle Murphy, 29, (1913-1943) Henry County Court Clerk and secretary of the Henry County Farm Bureau was died from injuries received in the accident.  (Others who died

from the wreck are listed under their family names.)

 

Funeral services for Miss Murphy, who was serving her sixth year as Henry County Court Clerk, were conducted at the New Castle Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Monday, with Rev. Herbert Zachary officiating, assisted by Rev. E. T. Curry and Rev. James Highfield.  Burial was in the New Castle Cemetery.

 

She is survived by her parents: Mr. and Mrs. John Murphy; a sister: Mrs. James F. Thomas and a brother Sam Murphy, all of New Castle.

Samuel Murphy

 

The funeral of Samuel Murphy, 53, (1904-1957) New Castle electrical contractor and part-time newspaperman, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the McCarty Funeral Home, New Castle. Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

 

Murphy’s body was found in the Kentucky River near Carrollton last night by Howard Aldridge, 29, a boat owner, and Ora W. Hall, 23, Madison, IN, after motorists on Ky 355 reported hearing cries for help.

 

Carroll County Coroner Arthur Hughes said Murphy probably drowned but evidence indicated he had been in the ice-cold water about 2 hours and a heart attack or shock might have caused death.

 

Hughes said Murphy’s boat apparently capsized in the swirling river currents and he drowned while trying to reach shore.

 

Besides his contracting business, Murphy worked part-time for the Henry County Local at New Castle.  He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mattie Murphy and a sister, Mrs. Julia Thomas, both of New Castle.

Susie Mildred Myers

 

Mrs. Susie Mildred Myers, 77 (3-13-1905 – 2-9-1983) of Frankfort, died Wednesday, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington.  She was formerly of Pleasureville.

 

She is survived by one son, Lanny Myers, Frankfort; five grandchildren and two brothers: Lewis Shaw, Pleasureville and Clarence Shaw, Shelbyville.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 12th at the Thomas Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Michael Rogers officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.
