William Harford

A gloom was cast over the entire community by the sudden death of Mr. William Harford which occurred on the morning of the 19th at about 4:30 o’clock.

He had not been well for several weeks, but went about most of the time, and attended to his business affairs, until within a few days of his death.  He was only confined to his bed one day, and at its close he expressed himself as better and said he thought he would be alright again.  That night he rested well until 3 o’clock next morning, when he became much worse.  A physician was summoned, but before he arrived the gentle spirit had taken its flight.  Heart trouble was the immediate cause of death.  Had he lived until the 16th of December, he would have been 83 years of age.  Mr. Harford was a public spirited man, of intelligence, benevolent and Charitable; a devoted husband and father, a kind friend and neighbor, loved by all, both young and old.  Besides his aged and devoted wife he leaves his daughters by former marriages, Mrs. Sam Barnett and Mrs. Will Massie, also several brothers and sisters, to mourn his loss.

The large crowd of sorrowing friends who gathered to pay the last tribute of respect attested to the high esteem in which he was held.  After a few touching and appropriate remarks by Rev. L. S. Chilton, the body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Turners Station.
