Sylvia Holmes, 92, of New Castle, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle. Daughter of the late James Thomas Nelson and Rosie Stivers Nelson, she was a member of the Henry Christian Church.
She is survived by one daughter: Wilma Young, Eminence; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6th at the Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Nick Coleman, of Sulphur, officiated. Bro. Ed Berry, pastor of the Henry Christian Church, assisted. Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

John Lewis Jones, 70, of California, formerly of Campbellsburg, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, in Anaheim, California. He was the son of the late Elzy Cobb Jones, Sr. and Bernice Lee Keener Jones. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Campbellsburg, a former employee of Arco Aluminum and retired from Cerro Metals in Santa Fe Springs, CA.
He is survived by one daughter: Yolonda Jones; one son: Deshon Jones; a step-daughter, Shelia Paris Morris; three stepsons: Reginald Paris, Donald Ray Paris and Paul Paris; five sisters: Rosa Hawkes, Dayton, OH, Anna Scott and Nora Craig, both of Louisville, Carrie Jackson, Dayton, OH and Gertrude Chambers, Cedar Hill, TX; three brothers: William Jones, Simpsonville, James Jones, Shelbyville and Charles Jones, Dayton, OH; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant sister: Ruth Emma Jones; brother: Elzy Cobb Jones, Jr.; former wife: Alberta Jones and a stepson: Alphonase Paris, Jr.
Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Saturday, May 5th at Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg. Interment was in the New Castle GUOOF Cemetery.

Robert Jones, 86, of Franklinton, died Saturday, April 7, 2007. Son of the late Chester and Myrtle Long Jones, he was a farmer and a self-employed handyman. He was a member of the Drennon Christian Church. He is survived by three daughters: Joan Snider, Lockport, Pat Smith, Frankfort and Pam Hopewell and husband, Thomas, Lawrenceburg; one son: Robert K. Jones, Campbellsburg; one sister: Christine Sutherland, Frankfort; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife: Laura L. Jones and one brother: Vernon Jones.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 9th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Ray Powell of New Castle officiated. Interment was in the Franklinton Cemetery.

Miss Effie A. Kalusy, (1888-1973) Covington, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, at the Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was formerly of Eminence, where she was a bookkeeper at a bank.
She is survived by one sister: Miss Virginia Kalusy, Covington.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Ricketts Funeral Home, Eminence.

Jonathan James Kelly, 29 of Pleasureville and Louisville, died Saturday, April 21, 2007. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. He completed discipleship training at YWAM in Tyler, TX. He was active in the mission field with trips to Mexico, Mongolia, Africa and Europe through the organization of Mercy Ships. He was a 1995 graduate of Henry County High School and a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a mechanical engineering degree. He was employed by CMTA, Inc., Louisville.
He is survived by his parents: John L. and Cindy Dearing Kelly, Pleasureville; one brother: Jeremy Kelly and wife, Brooke; one sister: Linda Agent and husband, Kenny; two nephews: Ryan Kelly and Trevor Agent and grandmother: Geraldine Dearing. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; John and Margaret Kelly and maternal grandfather: Donald Dearing.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, April 25th) at the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Rev. Brad Bridgeman will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasureville Cemetery. Sholar Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Herman Kemper, 85, Louisville, died Friday at Highlands Baptist Hospital. She was the former Sallie Owen Wallace and a native of Lockport.
Survivors included a daughter: Mrs. Evelyn Norris; a sister: Mrs. Thelma Levering, Deer Lodge, TN; three grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bosse Funeral Home, Louisville, with burial in St. Stephen Cemetery.

Bobby Kinslow, 69, of Smithfield, died Sunday, May 20, 2007. Son of the late Gobel and Mary Elizabeth Kinslow, he retired from BF Goodrich in Louisville after 31 years of services. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and was involved with the Pipefitters Local in Louisville. He was a member of the Smithfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
He is survived by his daughter: Sarah Sexton and husband, Jason, Eminence; two sons: Michael S. Kinslow and Christopher Kinslow, both of Smithfield; two sisters: Joyce Sheehan and Barbara Wilkerson, both of Louisville; one brother: Jerry Kinslow, Louisville and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife: Sally Wilson Kinslow; one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 22nd at Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home. Rev. Tanya J. Tyler, pastor of the Smithfield Christian Church (Disciple of Christ), officiated. Interment was in the Smithfield Cemetery.

Mabel Irene Krahulec, 91, of Defoe, died Friday, October 21, 2005 at Crestview Health Care Center, Shelbyville. She was a native of Stevensville, Montana, a homemaker and the daughter of the late August and Lillie Sellnow Rholfs.
She is survived by one son: M. J. Krahulec, Defoe; one grandson and six great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in the National Bohemian Cemetery, Owatonna, Minnesota at a later date. Sholar funeral Home, Pleasureville, is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Barnett Funeral Home, Campbellsburg with Rev. J. Gano Herndon officiating. Burial was in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Patsy Joyce Peyton Lisby, 55, of Eminence, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. She was a native of Shelby County, a member of the Cropper Baptist Church and a housekeeper in the laundry department at Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle.
She is survived by one daughter: Patricia Murphy and husband, Bruce, Eminence; one son: John Lisby and wife Stephanie, Goshen; stepson: Scott Lisby, Eminence; three brothers: Larence Lee Peyton and Bobby Peyton, both of Shelbyville and Larry Peyton, Oklahoma; four sisters: Callie Woods, Campbellsburg, Naomi Peyton and Juanita Raisor, both of New Castle and Lillian �Sis� Clark, Cropper; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Belle Wilmouth and Linnie Chisholm.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 13th at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Harold Bagley, Liberty Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Robert Brook Little, 70, of Lockport, died Friday, April 20, 2007 at his residence. He was a native of Monroe, MI, the son of the late Howard Brook and Ada Alice Shaw Little and a material manager for the Marine Corp. He was a Marine Veteran and attended the Lockport Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife: Lillie Charlene Schneider Little, Lockport; one brother: Donald George Little, Monroe, MI and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynn Lacher.
A memorial service will be held at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 25th. Rev. Wayne Kelly, Lockport Baptist Church, will officiate.

Gilbert Curtis Louden, 75, of Campbellsburg, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at his residence. He was the son of the late Fal and Lillian McCutchen Louden and a member of the Providence Baptist Church. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was an assembler at the Kentucky Truck Plant
He is survived by his wife: Noredda J. Hawkins, Louden, Campbellsburg; one son: Mark Curtis Louden, Louisville; one daughter: Lisa Ann Coots and husband, Jerry, Campbellsburg; one sister: Leota King, Beech Grove, IN; two granddaughters; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Anna Alma Penick McCane, 89, of Bedford, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at the Bedford Health Care Center. She was the daughter of the late Toy and Jenny Bell Birch Penick, a member of the Bedford Pentecostal Church and was involved with the Dorcus Missionary Sisters.
She is survived by three sons: Russell Leon McCane and wife, Linda, Campbellsburg; Daniel A. McCane and wife, Nadine, Milton and Wendell McCane and wife, Arbutus, Rochester, IN; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Julious Daniel McCane, one daughter, Juanita Chandler; five brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31st at the Bedford Pentecostal Church. Brother Gary Neal officiated. Interment was in the Bedford I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Philip McManis, Port Royal; two daughters: Gayla McIntosh and husband, Matt, Turners Station and Bridgette Banta and husband, Chuck, Port Royal; one sister: Cathy Payton, Port Royal; one brother: Larry Gregory, DeBary, FL; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

George D. Montfort was born in Henry County, (September 19, 1846 � March 4, 1927), the only son of a family of one son and one daughter, born to William and Elisabeth Vories Montfort. His father was born in Henry County, October 24, 1816 and was a farmer by vocation. He died July 15, 1856. Mrs. Elisabeth Montfort was a native of Henry County, born in 1826, and died in 1867. The paternal grandfather of our subject, John Montfort, was native of Pennsylvania, came to Kentucky in a very early day, and settled in Henry County, near the village of Pleasureville, where he lived until his death. His maternal grandfather, Francis Vories, was a native of Shelby County, born in 1795, came to Henry County in his fourth year, and settled on the farm in 1822 where George D. Montfort still resided in 1887, and lived there until his death in 1882. He took an active part in politics, but never aspired to an office. George D. Montfort, enlisted in the Federal Army, September 1, 1864, Company G, 54th Ky. Mounted Volunteer Infantry, commanded by Col. Harvey M. Buckley of New Castle. He served his country until his honorable discharge at Louisville, Ky., September 19, 1865. He immediately returned home and engaged in farming. He was united in marriage November 1, 1866 with Sarah E. (Bettie) Johnston, (September 19, 1844 - July 15, 1878), an estimable lady of Henry County. Three sons and one daughter were born to them.
His second marriage occurred September 9, 1879, with Flora Vories, (July 25, 1855 � August 28, 1885), of Henry County, the mother of one son and one daughter, Arthur Garfield and Sarah E.
Mr. Montfort was buried in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.
Politically, Mr. Montfort was a life-long Republican. He owned a fine farm of 127 acres and was a progressive and successful farmer.
There was a long ancestral line bearing this name. In historical research, we find the names of the �Earl and Countess� Montfort.

She is survived by her parents: Fran and Bryan Nolin, Smithfield; grandparents: Rick and Mary Louise Schepman and Allen and Ann Nolin, Smithfield; great-grandparents: Dr. Layton and Betsy Rouse, Madison, IN, Robert and Irene Ison, Frankfort, Thelma Jean Moore, Frankfort and Russell and Berdine Nolin, Smithfield and several aunts and uncles.
Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the New Castle Cemetery. Rev. Anthony Pierce, pastor of the New Castle Christian Church, officiated.

Maggie Corinne North, 93, of Detroit, formerly of Henry County, died August 12, 1970, at the Bon Secours Hospital, Grosse Pointe, MI. She was a member of the Eminence Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter: Miss Rosella M. North, Detroit; four sons: Norman F. North, Mt. Washington, James M. North, New Washington, IN, Robert K. North, New Orleans and Edgar T. North, Detroit; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Prewitt�s, New Castle with the Rev. Orman Neville and Gano Herndon officiating. Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville.

Charlie M. O�Brien, 85, of Gratz, died Friday, March 30, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. He was a native of Henry County, the son of the late David and Cordie Cox O�Brien, a member of the Lockport Baptist Church, a retired school bus driver for the Henry County Schools and a WWII Army Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Carter O�Brien, Gratz, one daughter: Judy Hall, Frankfort; three brothers: Tom O�Brien, Owenton, Guthrie O�Brien, Lockport and Eugene O�Brien, Bethlehem; one sister: Mary O�Brien, Bethlehem; one grandchild and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by five brothers.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 1st at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Wayne Kelly, pastor of the Lockport Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery with military honors.

Edith George Oldham, 83 of Louisville, died Thursday, April 12, 2007, after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Robert Bruce Oldham, Sr. and Lessie May Rogers Oldham. She was a retired Jefferson County School Teacher and a member of the Glendale Baptist Church in Bowling Green. She was a graduate of Louisville Girl�s High School, Campbellsville College and the University of Louisville. She was also a missionary to the Kentucky mountains and also did mission work in the Louisville area.
She is survived by two brothers: Dr. Robert B. Oldham, Campbellsville and Richard Oldham, Bowling Green; one sister: Jeanne Oldham Carothers, Central Point, OR; and nine nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14th, at the New Castle Cemetery. Neurath Funeral Home, Louisville, was in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her husband: W. A. Parrish, Shelbyville; one sister: Mrs. B. C. Taylor, Eminence; two brothers: Raymond and Ralph Clifton, Stafford, VA and several nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted at the Hall and Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville.

Joshua Lee Patterson, 19, of Pendleton, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at his residence. He was a package handler for UPS, a graduate of the Henry County High School and was attending the Louisville Technical Institute where he was on the Dean�s list. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and also a member of the Henry County Country Club.
He is survived by his parents: Charles, Jr. and Yvette Patterson, Pendleton and Joan Isley, Kingsport, TN; grandparents: Charles and Joanna Howard Patterson, Sr., Oldham County, Lawrence Noe, Cranks and Patricia Nolley, Louisville; five sisters: Heather Rodriguez and husband, Angel, Ashley Carman and husband, Marty, Alysia Wilson, husband, Shane, all of Oldham County and Kristie Allen and Hannah Patterson, both of Henry County and several nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 6th in the Chapel of Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home. Pastor David Russell Woosley officiated. Interment was in the Day-Jackson Cemetery, Cranks. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 15th at 2:30 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church, LaGrange.

Jay L. Payne, 88, of Eminence, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at the Masonic Home, Shelbyville. Son of the late Cecil Edward and Ruth Applegate Payne, he was a farm equipment salesman. He wa formerly the manager of the 5 and 10 Cent Store, a member and past president of the Eminence Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a field representative for the Easter Seals Society and a member of the Eminence Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife: Sara Tinsley Payne, Eminence and one niece and two nephews.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 21st at Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Duncan, pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, officiated.

Rachel Downey Peyton, 78, formerly of Defoe, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Homestead Nursing Center, New Castle. She was the daughter of the late Marvin and Ida Maupins Peyton, a retired worker for Tredegar C0., a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by two sons: Grafton Lee Peyton and wife, Wanda, Scottsburg, IN and William R. Peyton and wife Kathy, New Castle; one daughter: Barbara Flack and husband, Thomas, Ballardsville; six brothers: Jasper Downey, Louisville, Doug Downey and Selbert Downey, Ray Downey and Cecil Downey, all of Bethlehem and Ed Downey, Franklinton; three sisters: Fronie Willhite, LaGrange, Maudie Morrison and Myrtle Sallee, both of Eminence; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Grafton Deeter Peyton; one brother: Isaac Downey and two sisters: Martha Downey and Thelma Downey.

John W. Raisor, 85, of Sulphur, died Saturday, May 12, 2007, at the Richwood Nursing Center, LaGrange. He was an employee of Klarer Packing House, a member of the LaGrange Christian Church, a WWII Army Veteran, a member of Henry County DAV Chapter 155 and the son of the late Quintis and Lucy O�Nan Raisor.
He is survived by two sons: Timmy John Raisor and J. W. Raisor, both of Pendleton and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Don Naftz, pastor of the LaGrange Christian Church, officiated. Interment was in the Point Pleasant Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband: Clark Rechtin, Pleasureville; two sons: David Larsen and Nathan Rechtin, both of Louisville; one daughter: Lelia Rechtin, Louisville; her parents: Charles W. and Lucille Abbott, Jacksonville, NC; one brother: Charles W. Abbott, Jr., Gardnerville, NV; one sister: Sue Cruddas, Jacksonville, NC and one niece and one nephew.

She is survived by her husband: Irvin J. Retzlaff, New Castle; one daughter: Diane Lee and husband, Kent, Wiley, CO; three sons: Lynn H. Retzlaff, New Castle, Craig Retzlaff and wife, Cindy, Pewee Valley and Dennis Dean Retzlaff and wife, Debbie, Bowling Green; one sister: Vera Monroe, Titusville, FL; three brothers: Orval Jurgena, Hickman, NE, Darrell and Harvey Jurgena, both of Fairbury, NE and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Verda Schipper.

Fannie Beatrice Shannon Spear, 99, of Eminence, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville. She was the daughter of the late John William and Maggie Sewell Shannon, one of the oldest members of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters: Joyce Spear and Betty Moody and husband, John Warren, all of Eminence; three sons: John Paul Spear, Jr., Louisville, Donald Spear, Eminence and Gerald Spear, Bagdad; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Spear, Sr. one son, Charles Spear; three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 10th at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville. Rev. Charles Austin officiated. Rev. Ed Berry, Henry Christian Church, assisted as well as Wayne Moody and Wyatt Moody. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Mrs. Frances Montfort Turner, 83 years old, (1850 � 1933), died at her home in Campbellsburg, Monday night, on the ninety-third birthday of her husband, Lieut. Col. William J. Turner, (1840 � 1936) to whom she was married in 1875. Mrs. Turner�s ancestors, in the seventeenth century, fled from France to Holland and sailed on the �Boytkoe� to Plymouth, landing in 1660. The family moved south to Virginia and then followed Boone�s trail into Kentucky. Colonel Turner�s family settled in Henry County and the township of Turner�s Station bears his name, as does the local chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy.
Mrs. Turner is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Willaim Vories, Campbellsburg, Mrs. J. S. Meade, Smithfield, Mrs. Betty Lidsey, Detroit and Mrs. Minnie Pyles, Norwich, KS and two sons: William of Louisville and Fulton, of Carrollton.
Funeral services were held at the residence Wednesday, with burial in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.

William Jones Turner, 96, (1840 � 1936), one of Henry County�s oldest residents, died at his home near Campbellsburg at 5 a.m., today. Mr. Turner was the son of Joseph Burch Turner and Martha Jones, who came to Henry County from Virginia in 1814 and from who the town of Turners Station was named.
Mr. Turner enlisted in Company I, Fourth Kentucky Cavalry, under Col. H. L. Giltner and served with General Morgan until he received his honorable discharge at Mt. Sterling In 1865.
Surviving are two sons: Fulton Turner, who lived with his father and William Turner, Louisville; four daughters: Mrs. Minnie Pyles, Norwich, KS, Mrs. Betty Lindsey, Detroit, Mrs. J. S. Meade, Smithfield and Mrs. W. L. Vories, Campbellsburg; two brothers: George R. and John Turner, both of Turners Station and two sisters: Mrs. J. K. Duncan, Cleveland, OH and Mrs. T. E. Neblett, Shelbyville.

Carlos Vail, 86, of Columbus, IN, died Friday. He was born in Bedford and was one of the founders of the Southern Machine Company in Columbus.
Survivors include two sons: Richard Vail, Richmond, IN and Paul Vail, Martinsville, IN; one daughter: Mrs. Marvin Dowden, Eminence; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother: Milo Vail, Scottsburg, IN and one sister: Mrs. D. G. Bell of Milton.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home, Columbus, IN. Burial was in the Moffett Cemetery, Milton.

Ebenezer �Ebb� Robert Wallace III of Crestwood, died in his 70th year at Pewee Valley Hospital, Monday, January 18, 1965, at 10:50 p.m.
He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Margaret O�Brien Wallace; devoted father of Major Bud Wallace, Joe Wallace, Louis Wallace, Mrs. Ed (Ruth) Riddell and Mrs. Rueben (Virginia) Moore. He was also survived by one brother: Otis Wallace; three sisters: Mrs. Sallie Kemper, Mrs. Irad Levering and Mrs. Ruth Clements and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 21st, at 10:30 a.m. at M. A. Stoess and Sons Funeral Home, Crestwood. Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.
