The great East End of Henry County mourns, for Alfred Parker is dead, and the flags of the Kentucky River boats are at half mast (for he was of the River). The end came to his very active life early in the morning of March 28, 1928, at Frankfort, after a rather brief illness, the first illness of his life.
Alfred F. I Parker, 84, was born June 13, 1844 at Atrim, New Hampshire. Known to everyone as Pa Parker, he died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Richard OHearn in Frankfort Thursday morning at 5 a.m. Early in life he married Miss Frances Foreman, who was a first cousin to Dr. Joe Foreman, who at one time, was possibly the best known doctor in this country. To them three children were born, Myra, Flora and Allie, of the three, Myra only, survives him, who is Mrs. Richard (Myra) OHearn of Frankfort, and Gladys Casey Parker, a great-granddaughter, of New Castle. Also surviving is one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fred Wills.
He came to this county just fifty years ago, as a perfect stranger and landed at Gest Ville(as it was called then) together with his wife and three small children: two girls, Myra and Flora and Allie, the boy, on a trading boat. He soon found business to do and did it well and profitably. He was thrifty, knew his job well, made friends fast and kept every one of them always, carefully and sacredly, with the very fullest appreciation, never forgetting for a day his own great need for them, and their many uses for him and never was a heart more true, loyal and faithful to the last extreme.
After a most impressive funeral service at the Catholic Church at Eminence his many loving friends carried his body back to his own Gest Ville (where he often said the sun always rose in more beauty than elsewhere) there to sleep until Judgment morning. He was buried at Hardins Bottom.
