Thomas Larivey

 

Thomas D. Larivey, 71, of New Castle, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010.  Son of the late Edward and Adeline Newton Larivey, he was a U. S. Navy Veteran.

 

He is survived by his daughter: Kelly Craig of Cropper.

 

Funeral services were held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, June 19th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Jerry Anderson, Pastor of the Pleasureville Baptist Church, officiated.  A memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 25th at the Pleasureville Baptist Church.  Graveside services followed at the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Frank J. Louden

 

Frank J. Louden, 80, of Smithfield, died Friday, May 21, 2010 at his home.  He was a native of Westport and a retired farmer.  He was also a former employee for the Bourbon Stockyards in Louisville and the LaGrange Utilities Company.

 

He is survived by his children: Scott Louden (Jan), Julie Wolf (Jeff) and Mary H. Louden; his sisters: Aline Spencer and Reva Combs; one brother: J. C. Louden; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Roberts Louden; one daughter: Shelly Louden and one son: Alan Dale Louden.

 

Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, May 24th at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home in LaGrange.  Interment was in the Valley of Rest Cemetery in LaGrange.

Ivan Louden

 

Ivan Louden, 72, of Campbellsburg, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Forrest C. Louden and Adys Jones Louden.

 

He is survived by his wife: Ritchey Jones Louden, Campbellsburg; children: Leslie Simmons, Shelbyville, Darius Louden, Campbellsburg, Darrell W. Louden, Turners Station and Holly Louden, Lexington.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 11th at Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford.  Rev. Mike Huff officiated.  Cremation followed the services.

Barbara Lyles

 

Barbara Allen Lyles, 72, of Eminence, died Sunday, March 15, 2010, at her home.

 

She is survived by her sons: Thomas Edward Lyles, Eminence and Dana Aaron Lyles, Cropper.

 

Funeral services were held Wednesday,  March 17th, at the Crossroads Lighthouse Church in Eminence.  Rev. Paul Harvey and Bro. Larry Baker officiated.  Interment was in the Simpsonville Cemetery.

Orvie Mahoney

 

Orvie G. “Mac” Mahoney, 73, of Monchs Corner, SC, formerly of Port Royal died on Monday, January 18, 2010 at Moncks Corner Medical Center.  He was the son of the late Guy and Mable Mahoney.

 

He is survived by his wife: Barbara, Moncks Corner, SC and one stepson, Charlie Cannington, Moncks Corner, SC.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 21st, in the chapel at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home.  Entombment was in the Plantation Memorial Gardens.

Shirley Jean LaFollette Mahoney

 

Shirley Jean LaFollette Mahoney, 68, of New Castle, died Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Crestview Health and Rehab in Shelbyville.  She was a legal secretary for 49 years and a member of the Eminence Baptist Church.  She was the daughter of the late Albert Carroll and Ester Louise Shuck LaFollette.

 

She is survived by her husband: Bobby “Sheik” Mahoney, New Castle; two sons: Dale Mahoney, LaGrange and Tony Mahoney, New Castle; two sisters: Debbie Catlett and Nellie Sue Sutton, both of Shelbyville; one brother: Donnie LaFollette, Shelbyville; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 24th at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Michael Duncan, Pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Terry Mahoney

 

Terry Mahoney, 53, of Campbellsburg, died, Monday, June 21, 2010, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.  Son of the late Charlie Mahoney, Terry was the head mechanic for the Henry County Schools, a member of the American Legion and attended Remnant Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife: Cinda Perry Mahoney, Campbellsburg; one son: Terry Mahoney, Jr., Campbellsburg; his mother: Alma Mahoney, Carrollton; five sisters: Cuba Palmer, Gratz, Bonnie Smith, Lockport, Charlene Emery, Carrollton, Rita Snow, Ghent, and Brenda Smith, Pleasureville; one brother: William Mahoney, Turners Station; one granddaughter: Kendra Mahoney and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by one brother: Carl Mahoney and two daughters: MaKayla and Chandra Mahoney.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 24th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Bro. Darren Wolford, Pastor of Remnant Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Mary Higgins Martin

 

Mary Higgins Martin, 83, of Eminence, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at her residence.  Daughter of the late James and Grace Schemel Higgins, she formerly owned Eminence Key Market and Martin’s Hardware.  She was a member of the Henry Christian Church and was a former member of the Eminence Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by one son: Rollie Martin and wife, Sheryl, Boca Raton, FL; two daughters: Ruth Ann Johnson and husband, Bob, Rotonda West, FL and  Joyce Berry and husband, Skip, Eminence; one brother: Jimmy Higgins, Campbellsburg; three sisters: Martha Jane Clark, OR, Katie Wilham, Frankfort and Ann Lord, Louisville;  six grandchildren: Macy harp, Jeremy Martin, Paul Allen Ritter, Buddy Berry, Tiffany Payton and Tara McMahan; and nine great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul “Red” Rollins Martin, Jr.

 

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 23rd at Prewitt Eminence Funeral Home.  Bro. Ed berry, Pastor of the Henry Christian Church and Bro. Buddy Berry, Youth Pastor at Henry Christian Church, officiated.  Following the service, a 12:30 p.m. graveside service was held at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville.

Howard J. Mathis, Jr.

 

Funeral services for Pfc. Howard J. Mathis, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mathis, LAGrange, wqere conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Campbellsburg Baptist Church with burial in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.  Pfc. Mathis was killed in action on Heartbreak Ridge in Korea on September 25, 1951.  He was a graduate of the Campbellsburg High School and entered the Army last February.  He was employed as a crane operator by the L & N Railroad when he entered the service.

Ruth McClellan-Reneau

 

Ruth McClellan-Reneau, 74, of New Castle, died Thursday, April 22, 2010.

 

She is survived by her daughter: Brenda Woods, New Castle and two sons: Doug McClellan, Bedford and Bill McClellan, Milton.

 

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 24th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Interment was in the Campbellsburg Masonic Cemetery.

Jane Chilton McCormick

 

Jane Chilton McCormick, 70, of Carrollton, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Kindred Healthcare in Louisville after a long illness.

 

Funeral services were held April 19th at Tandy, Eckler, Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton.  Rev. Joe Kindoll officiated.  Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.

 

Mrs. McCormick was born in Turners Station to the late Ben and Hattie Sanders Chilton on August 9, 1939.  She was a member of the Cove Hill Baptist Church.

 

She retired from Conn Organ in Madison, IN after 18 years and was a former cafeteria cook at Cartmell Elementary School in Carrollton.

 

Survivors include her husband: Ernest “Buck” McCormick, a stepdaughter: Patricia Mefford, Carrollton; two stepsons: Ernest Allen Grimes, Sellersburg, IN and Tad Brooks, Floyds Knobs, IN; five sisters: Martha Chafer and Elizabeth Peelman, both of Carrollton, Mary Colburn, Louisville, Joan Neville, New Albany, IN and Judy Faler, Lockport; a brother: Robert Chilton, Carrollton; a sister-in-law: Betty Pecar, Carrollton; three grandchildren: Karla (Cecil) Beach, Kandi Mefford and Cameron (Stephanie) Mefford, and three great-grandchildren, Austin beach, Allie Beach and D. J. Orme.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Butler; four brothers: Tommy, Roy, Ernest and Dike Chilton; and a granddaughter, Carolyn Sue Mefford.

Zelma McDole

 

Zelma L. McDole, 92, of Milton, died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Springhurst in Louisville.  She was the daughter of the late Jasper and Lota Chandler Stockdale.

 

She is survived by one son: James Roy McDole, Sr., Turners Station; two daughters: Frances Lee Setliffe, Crestwood and Joyce Ann Waters, Louisville.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 26th, at Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford.  Pastor Judy Snell officiated.  Interment was in the Bedford Cemetery

Naomi “Lolly” Dunaway McGrew

 

Naomi “Lolly” Dunaway McGrew, 92, of Eminence, died Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Homestead Nursing Center in New Castle.  Daughter of the late Leonard and Mary Mitchell Dunaway, she was born on July 7, 1917.  She was a retired bookkeeper and member of the Henry County Historical Society.  She was a former volunteer in the Literacy Program and at the New Castle Grade School.  She was a member of the Point Pleasant Christian Church, where she was an elder.  She was preceded in death by her husband: Barton McGrew and a son, M.Sgt. James L. McGrew and brother: George Dunaway.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Martha Dewitt and husband, Roy, of Eminence and Jean McGrew and her husband, jay Hood, of Pleasureville; one son: Bill McGrew, New Castle; one sister: Martha Arvin, LaGrange; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 13th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Rev. Dawn Montgomery officiated, assisted by Rev. Charlie Highfield.  Burial was in the Point Pleasant Cemetery.

Lee “Tilly” Doyle Miller, 68, of Campbellsburg, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 in Louisville.  She was the daughter of the late Marvin Bransford Doyle and Elizabeth Mae Lamastus Doyle.

 

She is survived by her husband: Wallace Ray Miller; one daughter: Marta Miller, Louisville; two stepsons: Carl Ray Miller, Chicago, IL and John Todd Miller, Campbellsburg.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 2nd at Ransdell Funeral Home, Campbellsburg.  Rev. Jerry Anderson officiated.  Interment was in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.

Lucy McCoun Morris

 

Mrs. Lucy McCoun Morris, Frankfort, widow of Arvin C. Morris, died Tuesday night at King’s Daughters Hospital, Frankfort, after a long illness.  She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tipton McCoun, and a granddaughter of Benjamin Farmer, Farmdale.

 

She was a cousin of Wallace Smith of this county.  She also is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Rogers Funeral Home, Frankfort.

Thomas Evans Neblett

 

Thomas Evans Neblett, 75, of Old Taylorsville Road, died last Thursday at Kings Daughters Hospital   Mr. Neblett was a native of Henry County but had made his home in Shelby for a number of years where he ahs many friends. 

 

Besides his wife, Mrs. Anna Turner Neblett, he is survived by a daughter: Mrs. Corliss Watkins, Smithfield; a brother: John Neblett, Louisville and two sons: William O. and Robert Neblett, Shelby County.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ by Rev. George L. Weaver.  Interment was in the Smithfield Cemetery

Dorothy Nelson

 

Dorothy Mildred Caldwell Nelson, 85, of Bethlehem, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at her residence.  She was the daughter of the late R. C. and AnnaBelle Shaw Caldwell.

 

She is survived by her husband: Walter T. “Tommy” nelson; one son: Ed Nelson; and one daughter, Peggy Nelson, all of Bethlehem.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 3rd, at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. jerry Anderson, Pastor of the Pleasureville Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Kelley G. Nichols, 68, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at his home.  He was the son of the late John Will and Dorothy Cook Nichols.

 

He is survived by his wife: Sharon Yount Nichols and two sons: Tony Nichols and Jason Nicholas, both of Shelbyville.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 26th, at Shelby Christian Church.  Rev. William H. Brumley and Rev. Dave Hamlin officiated.  Interment was in the Grove Hill Cemetery.  Hall-Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Michael O’Connell, 61, of Eminence, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at his residence.  He was the son of Van and Cordelia O’Connell.

 

He is survived by two sons: Matthew O’Connell, Cincinnati, OH and Michael O’Connell, Sellersburg, IN.

 

A graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 23rd at the Owenton Cemetery.  McDonald and New Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Mason “Joe” Ott. Sr.

 

Joseph Mason “Joe” Ott, Sr., 95, of Eminence, died Monday, July 19, 2010 at his home.  He was a member of Saint John Catholic Church in Eminence. He retired from DuPont after 30 years and moved to Eminence with his wife, Ann, to live on a farm. 

 

He is survived by his children: Joseph Ott, Jr., (Linda), Louisville, John Ott (Bessie), Versailles, Joyce Branscum (Ross), Eminence, James Ott (Barbara), Lawrenceburg, and Jerry Ott (Laura), Eminence; two sisters: Mary Kinderman and Bernadine Hedges; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Marie Morton and one son, Andrew. 

 

Funeral mass was at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 23rd at St. Johns Catholic Church in Eminence

Billy Patterson

 

Billy Ed Patterson, 67, of Bedford, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Norton Hospital in Louisville.  He was the son of the late John H. Patterson and Beulah Jane Napier Patterson.

 

He is survived by his siblings: Charles Lee Patterson and Nancy Acree, both of LaGrange, Cora Pat Howard and Velma K. Miracle, both of Pineville, John Harrison, New Castle, Rose Adams, Smithfield and Beverly Rose, Frankfort.

 

A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 25th, at the Campbellsburg Masonic Cemetery.  Pastors Jerry Ball and David Woosley officiated.  Ransdell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James Leonard Payton

 

James Leonard Payton, 78, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Baptist Hospital East in LaGrange.  Born August 3, 1931, he was the son of the late Bennie Payton and Tonnie Bailey Payton.  He was a member of the Cove Hill Baptist Church and worked as a mechanic.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sadie M. Wiley Payton.

 

He is survived by three sons: Jimmy Payton (Pam), Bedford, Danny Payton (Glenda) and Johnny Payton, all of Campbellsburg.  Four brothers: Bennie Payton, Jr. and George Payton, both of Milton, William Payton, Pendleton and Floyd Payton, Louisville; three sisters: Ida Chilton, Milton, Lucy Roberts, Carrollton and Martha Williams-Cook, Buffalo, NY;  six grandchildren: Keith Cox, James Cox, Sadie Nicole Cox, April Cox, Corey Payton and Casey Payton; one great-grandson: Jameson Cox; and three step grandchildren: Benjamin Townsend, Melissa Morales and Josh Louden.

 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 15th, at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home in Carrollton.  Interment was in the Carrollton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Seymour H. Peniston, 64, beloved husband of Ada Foree Holman Peniston, died at his home in Latonia, on Monday, November 22, 1937.

 

Funeral services were held at the residence on Wednesday, November 24th at 1:30 p.m.  Burial was at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

William Purvis

 

William D. Purvis, 77, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at The Richwood in LaGrange.  He was the son of the late Arthur and Sallie Roberts Purvis.  He was a U. S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War.

 

He is survived by his wife: Jackie Haines Purvis and one son: Bryan Dewey.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 19th, at the Sligo Baptist Church in Pendleton.  Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford, was in charge of arrangements.

Graveside services for Etta Watkins Pyle, 86 (1879 – 1966), formerly of Smithfield, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Smithfield Cemetery.  She died Thursday in Orlando, FL.  Ricketts Funeral Home in Eminence was in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis Rainey

 

Phyllis Darlene Rose Rainey, 67, died Friday, April 16, 2010.  She was the daughter of the late Howard Rose and Corrine Thompson Rose.

 

She is survived by three sons: William Howard Hall and Frankie Lane Hall, both of Madison, IN and Danny Crockett, Pleasant Home.

 

Her body was donated to the University of Kentucky Medical School.  McDonald and New Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Leo Ray, 50, of New Castle, died Monday, March 15, 2010.  He is survived by his wife: Donna Ray, New Castle; one daughter: Ashley Ray, New Castle; three sons: Clifford Ray III and Joshua Abbott, both of New Castle and Jonathan Ray, Kansas; four grandsons: Austin Ray, Josh Abbott, Alex Ray and Cain Estes; parents: Clifford and Blondell Ray, Sr. Port Royal; three sisters: Ann Woodrum, New Castle, Teresa Vandiver, Louisville and Margie Ingram, Ava, MO; and one brother: Billy Dale, New Castle.

Tina Louise Reynolds, 51, of Eminence, died Thursday, February 18, 2010, at her residence.  She is survived by her son: William Tracy, Waddy; and two daughters: Jamie Tracy and Trina Tracy Estes, both of Eminence.

 

No services were held at this time.  Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville, was in charge of arrangements.

Orba Douglas Richmond

 

Orba Douglas “Doug” Richmond, 79, died  Wednesday, May 5, 2010.  He was the son of the late Russell B. and Kathryn Harmon Richmond.

 

He is survived by three sons: David Powell, Berry, KY, Wayne Richmond, Carrollton and Larry Richmond, Madison, IN; three daughters: Melinda Glass, Milton and Lydia Cowan and Karen Clark, both of Bedford.

 

Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May10th at Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford.  Interment was in the Campbellsburg Cemetery.

D. L. Ricketts

 

D. L. Ricketts, 82, widely known funeral director in Kentucky for 49 years, died unexpectedly at 6:00 p.m. Saturday at his home in Eminence.  He operated the first motor hearse in Kentucky, but for some years afterward was required to use his horse-drawn hearse on occasions when families objected to “that newfangled contraption.”

 

Ricketts and his wife, who survives him, observed their 61st wedding anniversary on January 1st.  He was a native of Henry County, born August 15, 1872.  At the time of his death, he operated funeral homes in New Castle, Campbellsburg, Pleasureville Shelbyville and Lancaster.  He was a member and deacon of the Eminence Baptist Church.

 

Besides his wife: Mrs. Lalla Caplinger Ricketts, he is survived by a son: Henry D. Ricketts, who was associated with his father in the funeral home in Eminence; and a daughter: Mrs. Minnie Radcliffe Dufor, Ghent, a Carroll County Court Deputy Clerk; two sisters: Mrs. Mattie Boulware, Springfield and Mrs. Leona Hutchins, Norfolk, VA; two granddaughters: Mrs. J. M. McCarty, Chicago, and Mrs. J. H. O’Flynn, Owensboro; four grandsons: D. H. and James D. Radcliffe, both of Louisville; Henry DeWitt Ricketts, Eminence, and Richard H. Radcliffe, LaGrange, who was associated with him in the Ricketts-Radcliffe Funeral Home, LaGrange, and twelve great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Eminence Baptist Church with Rev. Hal Marchman officiating, assisted by the Revs. Herman Schuessler, Walton Gardner and Elgin T. Smith.  Interment was in the New Castle Cemetery.

Joseph Wallace Riggs

 

Joseph Wallace Riggs, 69, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, after a long battle with lung cancer.  He was co-owner of the old R & R Insurance Co., retired from the Kentucky Division for Air Quality and a U. S. Army Veteran. 

 

He was preceded in death by stepson: Stephen; great-grandson: Michael; brother: Jerry and father: Clyde.  He is survived by his wife: Glenda; children: Yvonne, Scott (Carrie) and Joe Shelby (Terri) Riggs and Stephanie Fritz (John); grandchildren: Leigh Rae Joyce, Erin Fortney, Libby Fritz, Brent Durbin and Joshua, Jacob, Shelby Andrew, Jordan, Gabriel and Ethan Riggs; great-grandchildren: William, Haley and Aiden; mother: Mary Catherine Riggs; sisters: Margie Waflart (Richard) and Elizabeth Hunter; brother: Raymond Riggs (Robin); parents-in-law: Elnore and William Robinson.

Margaret Louise Wentworth Riley, 76, of Carrollton, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late Walter Ernest and Mary Ellen Peyton Wentworth.

 

She is survived by her husband: Matt Riley, Carrollton; two daughters: Carolyn A. McDole, Worthville and Marsha Helen Parson, Paris; and two sons: Norman Moore and Charles Moore, both of Carrollton.

Freddie Eugene Roberts, 70, of Eminence, died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Freddie and Anna Marie Woods Roberts.

Wendell Dwight Roberts, 92, of Owenton, formerly of Pleasureville, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at  Owenton Manor.  He was the son of the late Albert Sidney and Hallie Batts Roberts.  Mr. Roberts had worked as a supervisor at Liter’s Quarry and was a retired farmer.  He was the oldest member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church where he was chairman of the Deacon Board.

 

He is survived by one daughter: Lana Roberts Jones (Ronald), Owenton; one brother: Albert Morton Roberts, Bremerton, WA; two grandchildren: Jason Jones (Amber), Covington and Dawn Hogan (William) Carrollton; two great-grandchildren: Quincy Hogan and Benjamin Hogan, both of Carrollton; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife: Wavey Hardin Roberts and one brother: James B. Roberts.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 15th, at the Bethlehem Baptist Church.  Rev Roger Outler and Rev. Jesse Bourne officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.  Sholar Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Juanita “Terry” Roop, 91, of Pendleton, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010.  Daughter of the late Kelsey and Carrie Taylor Terry, she was a member of the Oldham Woods Church of Christ.  She was preceded in death by her husband: ford Sherman Roop; a son: Billy Gene Roop; four sisters and two brothers.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Clara Ann Cauble and husband, Robert of Smithfield and Rita Fern White and husband, Norman of Jonesborough, TN; one son: Larry Jay Roop, Cody, WY; two sisters and four brothers; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 11th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 14th at the Family Room Cemetery in Jonesville, VA.

Sharon Roberts Schott, 64, formerly of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, July 17, 2010 at her home in West Melbourne, FL.  Born July 20, 1946 in Shelbyville, she was preceded in death by her parents, J. C. Roberts and Naoma Manning of Shelbyville and her grandparents, Morris and Ruth Roberts of Pleasureville.

 

Sharon graduated from Shelby County High School and received her registered nursing degree from Kentucky State University and a BSN degree at McKendree College.  She was the emergency room nurse at Jewish Hospital and was a nurse at Churchill Downs on weekends.

 

She is survived by four children: Will Scholl, Chad Schott, Leslie Scholl and Stephanie Sohles; four siblings: Lorena Evans, Morris Roberts, Howard Roberts and Lucy Roberts and four grandchildren.

 

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 7th at Webb Funeral Home, Shelbyville.

He is survived by three daughters: Sharon Baader (Bill) Eminence, Beverly Endris (Danny) Pleasureville, and Debbie Burchett (Brad) Elizabethtown; grandchildren: Jeff Croxton, Jeremy Croxton and his wife, Kristin, and Stacey Kennedy; great-grandchildren: Zachary and Jayden Croxton and Ally Gabbard.  He was preceded in death by his wife: Marie N. Shelton; one daughter: Helen Rudell Shelton; two brothers: Marvin “Shorty” Shelton and Kenneth Shelton; foster brother: Jim Morris and one sister, Louise McVicker.

Janie Elizabeth Shinkle, 61, of New Castle, died Sunday, August 15, 2010, at Homestead Nursing Center in New Castle.  Daughter of the late Charles Manford and Eliza Marie Bradley Shinkle, she retired from Eminence Speaker and was a member of Crossroads Lighthouse Church.

 

She is survived by one sister: Jonath Ann Greenwell, Bedford; three brothers: John Robert Greenwell and wife, Frances, New Castle, Bill Shinkle and wife, Joan, Cropper and Charlie Shinkle of Eminence; two nieces: Rhetta Sharp and husband, Troy and and Melinda Shinkle; four nephews: Billy Ray Shinkle, Troy Wayne Ricketts, Jeff Moore and Charlie “Cricket” Shinkle.  She was preceded in death her sisters, Sarah Moore and mary Margaret Ricketts and one nephew, Robert Shinkle.

 

Graveside memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 25, 2010 at the Point Pleasant Cemetery.

Suzan Hawkins Navarrette Sizemore, 57, of Gratz, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010.  She is the daughter of the late Louise Buol.

 

She is survived by her husband: Rosco Randy Sizemore; her fathers: Russell Hawkins and Gary McCombs; sister: Rev. Sharri Mackenzi; three sons: Raymond and Robert Navarrette and Turner Nelson; two stepsons: Randy and Scott Sizemore; three grandchildren: Robert, Christian and Julionna Navarrette; and niece and family: Tanya, Martin, Chandlor and Tatiana Graf.  Suzan is also survived by many other family members and friends, all who were uplifted and will be missed by her loving and generous spirit.

Beatrice Smith, 84, of New Castle, died Wednesday, July 9, 2010, at Homestead Nursing Center, in New Castle.  Daughter of the late Harvey B. and Lena Mae Johnson Smith, she was a piano teacher for 40 years and a member of the New Castle Christian Church.

 

She is survived by one nephew: D. S. Smith and wife, Norma, Eminence; three nieces: Mildred Browning, Taylorsville, Lorena Petitt and husband, Jim, Eminence and Irene Smith, Smithfield; and several great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bonnie Bell Moe Smith, 72, of New Castle, died on Monday, June 7, 2010.  She was born in Glenwood, MN on April 7, 1838.  Bonnie was long-time and tireless EMT member of the New Castle Emergency Squad.  Bonnie was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Eminence.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Louis Smith and her parents, Rose and Roy Moe.

 

She is survived by her children: Anton “Tony” Smith, Indianapolis; Jon Smith and wife, Cindy, Richmond, VA; Sharon Smith and Scott Loeser, Shelbyville; Renee Roberts and husband, Bobby, Eminence; honorary daughter and blessing to the family, Bonita Maddox and husband, Danny, Bethlehem; honorary son and family friend, Eric Buckley and wife, Mary, Shelbyville; five grandchildren: Rebekah, Nicolette, Jacob, Adam and Emily; three sisters: Delores, Sylvia and Betty; and three brothers: Gerald, Arnold and James.

 

Bonnie braved a long, difficult and trying battle with cancer.  A Celebratory Mass and Memorial Service was held at St. John Catholic Church in Eminence at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3rd.  Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stivers was preceded in death by her parents: William H. and Linville McGowan; brother: Lowell McGowan; husband of 62 years, Gusta “Gus” Stivers and beloved son Allen Stivers, for whom she was caregiver for 57 years.

Valeene C. Sweazy, 84, of Shelbyville, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Crestview Care and Rehabilitation Center following an illness.  She was a native of Henry County, and the daughter of the late Shirley and Clara Mae Varble Cavinall.  She was retired as office worker at Silgas, where she worked for 28 years.

 

She is survived by two daughters: Pamela Sue (Ray) DeVary and Mary Helen (Ben) Matthews; one son: Sherley Ray “Tink” (Malise) Sweazy; three granddaughters: Tamara (Michael) Stough, Rene Craig and Jennifer (Rod) Matthews; two step-granddaughters: Karen (Bobby) Pearl and Kelley (Bud Rockhill) Matthews; four great-grandsons: Justin Michael Stough, Matthew Thomas Craig, Samuel Bray Herald and Ricky Pearl.

 

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 2nd at Webb Funeral Home.  Interment was in the Sulphur Cemetery.

Latha Winters, 76, of Bethlehem, died Monday, February 15, 2010, at homestead Nursing Center in new Castle.  He was the son of the late Dan and Cassie Chisholm Winters and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

 

He is survived by four sons: Guy W. Winters, Eminence, Eddie B. Winters, Alva E. Winters and Keith A. Winters, all of Pleasureville.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 18th, at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Brad Bridgman of the Bethlehem Baptist Church officiated.  Interment was in the Wallace Cemetery.

Judy Wood

 

Judy Carroll Harlow Wood, 63, of Pleasureville, died Friday, April 2, 2010, at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville.  She was the daughter of the late Jesse Harlow, Sr. and Aline Rucker Harlow.

 

She is survived by her husband: Bill Wood, Pleasureville.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 5th, at Sholar Funeral Home, Pleasureville.  Rev. Michael Duncan, Pastor of the Eminence Baptist Church, officiated.  Interment was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.

Georgia Woods

 

Georgia B. Shelton Woods, of Smithfield, died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville.  Daughter of the late William Preston and Lilly Mae Lewis Shelton, she was a member of the Smithfield

Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for more than fifty years.  Georgia began as cashier and then retired as vice president of the United Citizens Bank after 26 years of service. 

 

She is survived by two sons: Danny Thomas Woods and wife, Connie Sue, Pleasureville and Steve Carroll Woods and wife, Iva, Smithfield; one daughter: Patricia Woods brown and husband, Terry, New Castle; seven grandchildren: Patrick and Cara Beth Woods, Zach, Matt, and Clinton Woods, Adam and Jacob brown; and seven great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband: Carl Jack Woods, a two year old son: Robert Bairett Burns, special daughter-in-law: Connie Woods; and three sisters: Bessie Smither, Virginia Newton and Hazel Bellebaum.

 

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 7th, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.  Bro. Ed Life, Pastor of the Smithfield Baptist Church, officiated.  She was laid to rest in the Smithfield Cemetery.

Paul Edward Yeary

 

Paul Edward Yeary, 78, of Columbiaville, MI, died at the age of 78.  He was formerly from Henry County.

 

He is survived by three sons: Walter Yeary, Columbiaville, MI, William Boyd Yeary, Otisville, MI and Patrick Yeary, Fowerville, MI; one daughter: Ruby Thomas, Indiana; one sister: Lorene Butts, New Castle; two brothers: Hayward Yeary, Bagdad, and Wayne Yeary, Frankfort; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife: Patricia Ayers Yeary; one sister: Pauline Garber; and three brothers: Junior Yeary, James Yeary and Ralph “Mickey” Yeary.

 

A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 13th, at the Defoe Christian Church at 3:00 p.m.  Rev. Hayward Yeary officiated.  Interment will be at a later dater in Michigan.

Keith Albert Young

 

Keith Albert Young, 83, of Austin, died Saturday, March 13, 2010, at his residence.  Born in Shelby County, he was the son of the late Van. L. and Fannie Dean Peak Young.  Mr. Young was a life-long farmer and an avid fisherman.  He was a member of the Eminence Christian Church.
