Surnames Biography Eudaley Baldwin Winstead GEORGE A. EUDALEY, Hopkins County, was born in Jefferson County, Tenn., June 13, 1842, and is the youngest of sixteen children born to David W. and Sarah J. (Baldwin) Eudaley, the former a native of Virginia, and the latter of the North Carolina, and of Irish and Scotch descent respectively. David W. Eudaley was married in his native State, where he followed farming for several years. He was a veteran in the war of 1812, and was stationed most of the time at Norfolk, Va. About 1820 he moved to Jefferson County, Tenn., where he held the office of county trustee, and various other official positions during his life. He was also extensively engaged in farming. He died in September, 1878, in his eighty-seventh year. He and his wife were from early life members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, in which he was for many years a local preacher. George A. remained on his father's farm until he was nineteen years old, and in the fall of 1861,enlisted in the First Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry, Confederate States army, in which regiment he served until January, 1863, when transferred to the artillery service, and served until the close of the war. He took part in the battle of Stone River, and many other engagements. In the spring of 1865 he came to Nebo, Hopkins Co., Ky., where, with the exception of five years, he has since been engaged in the brick business. For the past five years also he has carried on a general merchandising business at that place. He is in partnership with Leroy Graham, under the firm name of Eudaley & Graham. They carry a well selected stock in their line, and are doing a good business. Mr. Eudaley was married July 24, 1865, to Miss Mary M Winstead, a native of Hopkins County, Ky. Eight children have blessed their union; three sons and four daughters are living. Mr. Eudaley and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal and Christian Churches, respectively. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and a Democrat.
