Dear Nancy, the error in the 1850 census annotation is for Family 185/185 (Annotated District 2) of Joshua Owen. http://kykinfolk.com/hopkins/census/1850/district2/pg006b.html#185/185 Opposite his son, Edward, is the note of his marriage to Tabitha J. Brooks. She may have been the daughter of a Wiley Brooks, but she was not the daughter of the only Nancy Matthews Brooks that I have found in Hopkins co. Nancy Matthews married William Brooks, who was never known as Wiley, in Prince Edward co VA on 16 Nov 1813. They moved to Hopkins co immediately as the bio of their oldest son, Daniel A. Brooks states that he was born in Hopkins Co KY on 7 Aug 1814. Willliam Brooks died in Hopkins Co on 30 Nov 1847. He was born in VA on 22 Jun 1789 according to his greatgranddaughter's DAR application. Nancy Matthews Brooks' will was written on 4 Oct 1847 and proved in Union county KY court on 7 Jan 1878, WB F/423,424. I believe there were at least two Brooks families in Hopkins co by 1850 and possibly three. One was that of William and Nancy Matthews Brooks, and the other one was from NC and apparently unrelated. Best regards, Jan Knox [knoxcol@codenet.net]
