The congregation of Disciples at Manitou, Hopkins County, Kentucky was organized in the stemming room of the Hodge Tobacco factory by Dr. D M Breaker and Eld. Thos. H Smith on the evening of 24 Aug 1884, with eleven members dismissed from the congregation at Grapevine and Madisonville. The deed to church lot was made 22 Dec 1885, for $65.00, with W T Martin, Joseph Wicks, Will Bailey and C W Crabtree, Trustees.

The following officers were elected at the August 1884 meeting: Elders: C.W. Crabtree and R.P. Tilford
Deacons: W T Martin and Joseph T Wicks
Clerk: J W Bailey

12 Nov 1884 -- Dr. D M Breaker preached at 11 o'clock A.M. and by request of the congregation ordained the officers chosen Aug 24th. J W Bailey -- Clerk

Brother W Henry Moore preached at this church for forty years.

On the 1st Lords Day in April 1921, Bro. J T Hibbs and Bro. R E Utley were installed as Elders. Bro's. W H Cardwell, Ross Utley and Daivd Bailey as Deacons

On first Lord's Day in Nov 1930, Bro. John Powell was installed and ordained as Elder and Bro. R H Pemberton as Deacon.

As the Manitou Christian Church as not able to continue as a church, the Trustees and some of the officers held a meeting on Nov 17, 1945. At this meeting all agreed to sell to the highest bidder building, lot and fixtures of the Manitou Christian Church. The proceeds of this sale to go to the Madisonville and Nebo Christian Churches.

On Nov 30, 1945, the above named property was sold for the net sum of $1,242.50. $500.00 given to Nebo Christian Church and $842.50 given to Madisonville Christian Church. Acting Clerk, Royal E Utley
