BOGGS Cemetery, Madison Co Jackie Couture wrote: This was in the local paper and I thought it may be of interest to someone with Madison County Boggs lines. Notice of Intent Highland Park Properties (formerly J. B. Arnett Farm) 1041 Berea Road, U. S. 25 South Near Eastern Bypass On October 1, 1997 or any date thereafter the owners of the said property plan to relocate (5) graves or more as prescribed by law from said property to the Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Madison Co., Kentucky. The graves are believed to be that of James Boggs (1793-1858) and wife, Pheve Boggs (1792-1847) and 3 children descendants. For more information call James J. Shannon, Jr., President, Highland Park Properties, Inc., 606-625-0316 or write P. O. 5267, Richmond, KY 40476-5267 + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + Thanks Jackie, These are my ggg-grandparents and at least 3 of their grand children. There were more graves in this cemetery but it was almost destroyed by Mr. J. B. Arnett (a former Register of Deeds for Madison County). Mr. Arnett had pulled up the headstones of the grandchildren and thrown them between the crypts of the grandparents. He was also using the headstone of a family slave as a footstone in the path to his storage shed. The above ground crypts of James and Pheobe (Cornelison) Boggs were not destroyed because they were visible from the highway and road. I visited with him in 1987 and he seemed proud that he had pulled all of the stones out of the ground. He also showed me the headstone of one of the household slaves that he had turned face down in his walkway to the shed. If it was absolutely necessary to move the graves I would think that the BOGGS Cemetery on Boggs Lane would be a far more appropriate place since there are uncles, sisters and other family there. If you should happen to have an address for Mr. Ray Brackett in Allen, KY, PLEASE advise him of this. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. He is a former President of the KYSAR. J. T. Shannon is a Lawyer and former President of the Madison County Historical Society. Thank you for the notification.
