Cemetery Relocations along the Cumberland The following was forwarded to Richard Matthews from someone on another list. I thought it worthy of forwarding here as well. nt I just happened to remember that back in 1991, at the suggestion of a friend who worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, I wrote to them requesting information regarding the relocation of cemeteries in Clinton and Wayne Counties, and explained that I was doing genealogical research. (Cemeteries along the Cumberland River were relocated around 1949, when Wolfe Creek Dam was built.) I also specified the surnames I was looking for, and was very pleased to receive the following information: 1. Disinterment and reinterment data for two cemeteries that had the names I was looking for; 2. A list giving the grave number for disinterment and reinterment; 3. A copy of the map of one of the reinterment sites. I do not believe there was any fee involved, however they were going to be doing something with the records, so I don't know if they are still accessible or not. If anyone is interested in investigating this possibility, the address is as follows: Department of the Army Nashville District, Corps of Engineers P.O. Box 1070 Nashville, TN 37202-1070 Phone: (615) 736-7720 The department that handled my request was the Planning and Control Branch, Real Estate Division. Again, this was six years ago, and I don't know if the address or phone number is still viable, but perhaps this will prove invaluable to someone seeking the missing burial sites of their ancestors.
